This version is beautiful. I haven't looked deep into the lyrics, but I've always thought there were lesbian themes to this song. I don't know why but that makes it much better to me. There are so many songs about girls who like a guy but the guy likes another girl... but I think this is deeper than that. That's what I think anyway. Either way it's a beautiful song, much better than her other version.

In a live performance of this song, she said it was about a "beautiful German girl from her past, and that she is happy to be able to sing about it because it shows that she is not bitter". i'm not sure if this means that the german girl was her exgirlfriend (you know what that means) or if it's a girl that her (ex?)boyfriend loved. idk. there are some other lyrics in her songs that convince me of the former.
