Jwissick: You seem obsessed with all things Christianity... I wonder: What is your endgame? Full disclosure: Mine is to be used by God to draw the lost closer to Him so no one has to suffer the fate Todd spoke of in this video.
My friends, if there is a .0001% chance that hell is real... you could take the chance, but why would you (when you'd have a better chance winning the lottery 20 times than avoiding hell)? I'm not fear-mongering, I'm just saying do some research on near death experiences where people visit hell. You'll notice many many similarities. You can mock Christ now, but when you stare death in the face, I guarantee you will take it more seriously then. Anton LaVey sure did. Turn to Jesus now.
@cdklassen2 near death experiences statistically almost never have to do with hell. those that do are mostly Christian (38%) while 0% of non-religious people see hell. I've done my research, have you done yours? And why would you place your bets on the .0001% chance that Christianity is true. What if Islam is true? Pretty sure their hell would be worse than ours! (not to mention their heaven better than ours! Woohoo for virgins!)
@jothmar I guarantee you if we had this conversation with you on the cusp of death, it would go much differently. But it's obvious you don't want to hear it now. Your 0% statistic makes perfect sense because believers don't go to hell and if given a second chance, non-believers don't want to return. When the lights go out and you smell burning flesh, you will understand why I tried to help you. God bless.
@cdklassen2 Let me repeat- 38% of Christians see hell. 0% of non-religious people see hell. It is the reverse of what you just said and therefore does not support your case. And no, I completely understand why you would try to convert me. I even highly commend you for it. I once wanted to be a missionary and was very concerned for the souls of other people. There is nothing better than saving a soul- if it is possible. So thank you for your concern. Fear does not make something true, however.
@cdklassen2 If I was afraid on my death bed, it would not make your God real. But honestly, you have it wrong. I would actually love to be converted. There are many perks to being able to believe I will have eternal life. My problem is that all I hear are terrible reasons (fear, the Bible says so, etc). What I REALLY want to hear are good reasons to convert that set Christianity apart from other myths. But if all you have left is continued faulty logic, please- do stop.
@jothmar My God is real whether you fear Him or not. But you're right, I can't convert you with my words. Only the Holy Spirit can work through you and convict your heart... if He chooses to. You can't come to Him unless He calls you. So unfortunately, all I can do is pray that the Lord will soften your heart and let you know that I love you and want the best for you. Hell aside, I would just love to meet you in heaven one day my friend. God bless you.
@ddrninjette A hardened heart is more of a biblical phrase that has nothing to do with friendliness, kindness, gentleness, empathy, sympathy, or generosity... rather a persons' resistance to the truth of Jesus Christ. It was not an insult on his character or on him at all. I am no better than him nor will I ever claim to be. The difference between him and I is that I have been eternally blessed by the forgiveness of God. I did nothing to earn that forgiveness, Jesus did everything.
@cdklassen2 Being hard heartened is a 12th century English phrase, I believe, and it means to be unfeeling or apathetic. The person who came up with it was Anicius Boethius in the 6th century (not in English of course). The definition never had anything to do with "resistance to the truth."
@ddrninjette Your hard heart has blinded the truth from you too my friend. I'm afraid the book of Exodus was written 3,400 years ago and it contains the phrase numerous times. It also appears many more times throughout the bible. Your attempts at displaying Google-wisdom has let you down, and if it hadn't, who cares? Such wisdom (or the real worldly kind for that matter) means nothing in the end... all that matters is whether you had enough wisdom to surrender to Christ.
@ddrninjette Yes, according to my Interlinear Hebrew/Greek/English bible the original text is directly translated to "hardened heart". Strong's number 3820 לֵב (heart), 2388 חָזַק (hardened). Maybe you should surrender to Christ now because 'guessing' is about as reliable as google apparently. And if you're wrong about these things, perhaps there's a chance you're wrong about Jesus Christ?
@cdklassen2 Read the full definitions of the Hebrew words. Indeed, leb means emotion or heart. But "chazaq " which is translated as "harden" has more to do with strengthening, growing, and prevailing. In other words, it's talking about strengthening the soul. So, in a turn of irony, when the Old Testament talks about "the hardening of hearts" they mean the opposite of what the phrase means today.
@ddrninjette Since when does 'strengthening' mean the opposite of 'harden'? That's a stretch and you're grasping at straws. With all due respect, notice that you just said "the Old Testament talks about "the hardening of hearts"". Don't you see that you've just admittedly debunked your 6th century theory? But really, who cares? None of this matters. As if proving a Christian wrong verifies that Christ didn't die for your sins? I apologize if I've hit a nerve with you. God bless you friend.
@cdklassen2 You honestly want me to believe an English phrase was derived from the Bible even though it was found written down in the context of today's meanings hundreds of years before the first English translation of the Bible? Common Biblical phrases didn't make their way into the lexicon until after the KJ Bible.
@ddrninjette I won't lose sleep over what you believe and what you don't... well, that's not true, I will actually plead with God tonight to reveal Himself to you. The apostle Paul used to kill Christians for a living. If Jesus Christ can reach Paul, he can reach you. I know this is probably insulting to you, but my heart breaks for you because you not only ignore the truth, you seem to resist it at all cost. Your level of hatred for God may one day turn to the same level of love for Him.
@cdklassen2 Doesn't sound like anyone is ignoring truth around here. Just ignoring unfounded claims. It doesn't cost us much to not buy BS. But then again I guess it doesn't cost you much to try to sell it.
@cdklassen2 You believe my heart is hardened... I believe you are brainwashed. Guess we are even. The one advantage is I have not thrown out the one bone God threw us (if he exists), which is reason. God bless you too, on the .0001% off chance that he's there. ;)
@jothmar Thank you for the bitter-sweet words. I will admit, my worldly reason may be slightly askew, but it's no different than a 'first love'... nothing else matters but that love. Jesus Christ is so worth whatever loss I suffer in this world. If He reveals Himself to you one day, you will see what I mean. Until then, I wish you all the best.
@jwissick re:hardening hearts.....take a piece of soft wax and a piece of soft clay and shine the Sun (pun intended) on them. The wax will soften but the clay will harden. The same Sun, different reactions. There are those who will accept God, and those who will reject even when both receive the same thing from God. It was Pharaoh's choice to be hardened....God simply predicted the result because he knew Pharaoh was someone like.....you (?).
@KJVWordofGod Exodus 4:21, Exodus 7:3, Exodus 7:13, Exodus 10:20 etc. etc. etc. "But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go." "but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go."
Doesn't sound like a prediction, but a positive action. Your god raised up Pharaoh and hardened Pharaoh's heart in order to promote his own glory. Romans 9:17
So, either you are wrong, the bible is wrong, or you lied or it's all BS.
@jwissick God promoted a man who was evil because God knew how the evil man would react. Does not mean the evil man had no choice, just means God knew what the choice would be. You already understand this and you understand the explanation given before. For a man who rejects God, you spend a lot of time and energy talking about God. One would think you'd have more important things to do....since God has no value or meaning to you. You believe in God, you're just fighting it...and him.
@KJVWordofGod I think most of us are fighting ignorance and brainwashing- not God. You can say we believe in God all you want, you can say he exists all you want. It does not make it true, unfortunately.
@JMcH I'm not clear as to whether your comment is actually an attempt at argumentation or purposeful "He said, She said." You didn't offer proof, just a contrary claim. In support of my claim- I was a Christian for 14 years, raised by Christian parents, while my father was a pastor. Additionally, I have gone on mission trips to Mozambique, South Africa, Romania, and Costa Rica. While I was in those countries I even preached and led worship. So I know a bit about Christianity.
@JMcH My knowledge of brainwashing... hmm well other than having been raised in a Christian home with a pastor for a father- I also double checked it in Webster's: a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes & to accept contrasting regimented ideas. For some I suppose you are right, if they were indoctrinated at a young age they may have not have previous beliefs & therefore would simply be "indoctrinated" & not brainwashed
@jothmar jwissick rejects not my reasoning....he rejects the Truth....and since he rejects the Truth...he rejects God. Joh:14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life"........God=Jesus=Truth Reject one, you reject all. Hope that helps.
@KJVWordofGod No it doesn't help. Obviously you do not have an understanding for logic or reason. Mohammed also said that what he said was truth. By your logic, by rejecting Mohammed you are rejecting God and truth. A claim to be truth, deity, or whatever the hell you want, does not make it so. So go right ahead and feel high and mighty that somehow magically you have figured out the "Truth" magically without any proper reasoning.
@jothmar .....EXCEPT the King James Bible IS the Word of God and it has no lie in it. The Koran is full of contradictions and lies. Islam was started by the Roman Catholic church. It was their idea to create a band of nutcases to take over the Holy Land so later the RCC could move in on it as a "Crusade". Only it didn't go as they planned, but I digress. You are afraid of the Bible and what it would do to your lifestyle...which is why you hold to lies. You are left to your lies.
@KJVWordofGod People like you never cease to amaze me. Maybe if I say it one more time... it will get through... Claims must be supported! Saying something is true does not make it true! And guess what buddy, your conspiracy theory about Islam is simply uneducated, KJV only, uber-fundamentalist propaganda. You want to know what WAS actually created by the Catholic church? Your precious Bible. Now that isn't just conspiracy theory. It is fact.
@metaalan18801 I'm not saying your claiming we don't have free will, it's just that you're saying the free will we have is an illusion. If all your actions are known from birth to death, you lack true choice.
@jwissick - There is no contradiction or paradox. If there were, you could explain it, but instead you resort to pathetic attempts to insult. As usual.
@ddrninjette Knowing them and forcing them are two different things. You seem like a philosophic person. Know this... all life would be a joke, a great cosmic, God driven joke...and essentially pointless, except for one thing....God.....Jesus Christ suffered and died at the hand of man, for man...for you. Had God not done that...all life would be a pointless joke, but because Jesus died for us.....life is real and has meaning and is poignant and profound and God is the lover of our souls.
@ddrninjette.....life cannot exist without God but life also would be pointless and a joke if Jesus Christ had not died for us ....the point is...Jesus DID die for us...therefore life is NOT a cruel joke but does have meaning and eternal consequences of our own choosing.
@KJVWordofGod You insult God with that statement. Do you really think that Jews were God's toys, destined to be lied to and kicked around for centuries before Christ came? You must, since life was a pointless joke for them, eh?
@ideologger ......with WHAT statement? You're obviously having trouble understanding English. "If you can't keep up with the conversation it's better you don't try to join in at all" ---Hannibal Lecter.
@KJVWordofGod I take it you didn't read what I said. If English is not your first language, let me know- I'll try to put it in terms you can understand. Peace!
@jwissick - "So, either you are wrong, the bible is wrong, or you lied or it's all BS. "
I'm going with option #5: James Wissick is wrong (and is presenting a false dilemma to try to avoid admitting that that's a very valid option). Tell me, James, if you annoy someone and they go away from me because of it, what is happening? Are they leaving because of what you are doing or are they choosing of their own volition to leave? Can't it be both? In fact, it is. This is only logical.
@jwissick - And yes, James, the Bible says both that God hardened Pharaoh's heart and that Pharaoh hardened his own heart. The situation is a bit more complex than you falsely make it out to be. God's actions hardened Pharaoh's heart, but it was Pharaoh's choice to react that way to God's actions.
@jwissick - "So god can't say when he means to say in the bible?"
What are you babbling about? What does that have to do with anything I just posted? Try explaining yourself instead of resorting to your typical lame insults. (I won't be holding my breath, though.)
@jwissick - Thanks for proving my prediction 100% correct, James. (I guess that means that since I knew you would insult me, you don't have free will.) You obviously cannot counter my facts (which, being facts, goes without saying).
@cdklassen2 You are providing us with pascal's wager. It's a contemptible and vacuous argument. You are betting on ONE god out of the thousands. The odds are against YOU just as much as they are against the atheist..... which is why we don't play.
Near death experiences are meaningless and fail when tested.
@jwissick Your wisdom is of this world and seriously means nothing in the long run. I suggest you give your life to Jesus Christ now, but it's clear you oppose Him strongly. Just remember, as long as you have a heartbeat, you can still call His name. After you die, hell and judgement await. You will also be in my prayers. God bless you friend.
Are you asking him to kill you? That's about the only "proof" your closed mind and hardened heart will accept at this point, James. You reject the Bible. (You are constantly proven wrong about the Bible, James, yet you continue to reject it.) You reject Jesus life, death and resurrection. You reject God. Even Einstein accepted that Jesus was real and that God existed.
@jwissick Your transparency is all too obvious. The majority of the post here by Christians are glorifying the creator while your post are an attempt to glorify yourself. After you post a responce do you go back to read it over and over? You are amusing, predictable and sad at the same time. Todds ministry and his theology I have agreed with for some time now. But I confess that I sometimes come here just to read your posts. Must be a miserable place to live inside your mind. Give glory to God.
@jwissick - Pascal's Wager is more rational and intelligent than anything you offer, James. No Christian is "betting on one god out of thousands." "Betting" and "odds" have nothing to do with it. Why do you think we became Christians, James? Because it sounded like the "best bet?" What nonsense! But that is what you are arguing by using those ridiculous terms.
You ought to do a Google search on Pascal's Wager. It is by far, unanimously agreed upon by both theists and atheists, the worst argument in the theological debate spectrum.
"research on near death experiences"
You realize that we can stimulate someone's brain so they feel those experiences? That seems like a fairly good indicator that they are almost always psychological and not supernatural.
Do you even have any sources that say LaVey converted on his death bed?
@MaximumAxiom You're right... my argument about there being even a small chance that hell is real... is weak at best, especially when having a theological debate. However, my intention was not to prove anything, but rather to shed light on the possibility.
Stimulating somebody's brain to reproduce the symptoms of a trip to hell? That's how you debunk every person who had the same vivid trip to hell?
LaVey never converted... dying he was quoted repeating "There's something very wrong."
But I mean, what god would want you to hedge your belief in him, just so you might go to heaven. Which god do you even hedge your belief in because most religions that have a hell are mutually exclusive (most Xtians and Muslims sects agree that they have the ONLY way to heaven, and everyone else is going to hell).
I never said it debunked every case, only they can know what they experienced. Instead, it gives us a perfect naturalistic explanation.
We have no reason to believe them. Its analogous to someone saying that Zues causes lightning in the sky when we can perfectly explain that lightning by blind naturalistic forces described in Electromagnetism. It doesn't mean that Zues didn't actually cause that lightning to slam down from the heavens, but it gives us every reason to be skeptical of their assertion. In the case of a supernatural experience, we cannot accept it as valid evidence, and why should we?
God is so awesome and merciful. Praise YHWH Almighty!!! Even though every last one of us is wicked and disobedient, He still offers us a way to Him... Yahshua His one and only son, the only risen one, King of kings and Lord of lords. Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. AMEN!
@cdklassen2 How do you know any of that to be true? Christians are hilarious, when support is requested for their unsubstantiated claims count on them to just blast their claims louder. They've been brainwashed and simply re-spout every claim they heard when they first converted that they never thought to question. Stop and think. How do you know any of it is true? Because your pastor told you? Because your Bible says so? How do you know these to be good sources?
@jothmar Because the Holy Spirit dwells inside of me. You will have no idea what I'm talking about until you turn to Jesus Christ... then it all makes sense. God bless you.
@cdklassen2 I've been a Christian before. Even "baptized by the Holy Spirit." It only made more sense because I was not utilizing my brain. And by what you just said, either a person must somehow receive the HS before conversion or not be thinking before they are a Christian. That's swell. The first is impossible according to Christianity and the second means God only saves stupid people.
@jothmar Listen to what you just said... (I paraphrase). "I was baptized by the Holy Spirit but I wasn't using my brain." You are implying that now your brain is being utilized but I beg to differ. "For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools..." Whether you like it or not, you will be in my prayers my friend.
@cdklassen2 Circular. You are using your own Scriptures (the validity of which are currently being debated) as your only source material. A wise God would give his children more to stand on. "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."
@jothmar scripture proves itself over and over. with that number of authors (40 in total) agreeing on EVERYTHING is not reality if it is just myth. And who are you to say what a wise God would or would not do? how do you know that God is doing the wise thing and our perception of wisdom is completely false. What I'm trying to say is that you can't get solid facts on anything. You have faith that your senses are working, but you don't know for sure. What is the difference between that and God?
@swimmerfish34 It is quite debatable as to whether the authors agreed on everything. Even if it were the case, it would not prove its truthfulness (just its consistency). And who am I? Well apparently someone who has about as much to stand on when claiming what God would be like as any of you Christians. But, yes, by all means, since solid facts are not an option and reason is not part of the equation- and even our senses are thrown out... Yes, yes, now I will convert. Praise Jesus! hahaha
@jothmar First, you try getting 40 people, most of whom never knew each other, and make them agree of EVERYTHING. Second; you don't have anything to stand on, you don't appear to believe in any deity and therefore have only yourself to stand on, which is always in question. Try finding answers to purpose of existence and morality some other way, it doesn't work. you won't hear from me again. God bless
@swimmerfish34 Yes, it would be difficult, but would not prove the truthfulness of the Bible. Consistency does not equal truthfulness. You have a bunch of claims you have decided to accept by faith. When the existence of a deity is the subject in question, the belief in the deity does not mean you have something to stand on. e.g. Belief in claim X by side A does not make side A more valid than side B. Support for claim X would make side A stronger, but not belief.
@jwissick God created man and gave him everything his heart desired, giving him one rule. Motivated by pride, man disobeyed the God who gave him everything, and proceeded to breed disobedient children. So God created the law, but man failed horribly at keeping it, so God helped man by allowing a sacrificial lamb to pay for man's sin... first a literal lamb, then afterward He sent the final lamb, Yahshua His son, to die a brutal death to save a world that hates Him. Unfathomable indeed.
@jwissick ... it's even more unbelievable if you don't know God, I admit, but even knowing Him it's hard to comprehend a God that would have so much love for the human race... that He would send His only son to the world KNOWING they would brutally murder Him. The offer is for everyone. God knows who will come to Him and who won't. Just think... if you come to Him on your death bed 50 yrs from now, your name is already in the Book of Life. But remember, you may die tomorrow without warning.
@cdklassen2 So God didn't know man would disobey Him? God didn't know His "law" would fail to do what it was intended to do? And God needs sacrificial blood; he cannot just forgive or ask that people write an essay?
Please explain how these are in any way shape or form the manifestations of an all-knowing, all-wise, and all-powerful deity... I mean... if you want....
@ddrninjette I'm sorry, I can't help you if you want to know why God would create the world knowing the outcome (We win by the way... and every knee will bow to Yahshua). But I can tell you that we are all purified by fire. Literally for the disobedient and figuratively for His children.
Personally, I think the message is more offensive the more it is explained, but that's just me. I mean, the message transgressed from Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to God punishes thought crimes.
Funny thing is Todd (or anyone else) can't even prove the law is from God. He is right, there is a lack of information- proof that we should believe any of the law is God's or even that God exists. So yeah, go ahead and make people feel bad about their sin and then pitch your "answer to their problem." That's the way all bad sales pitches work. Make up a problem that the customer needs to fix and then "save them" from the fabricated problem.
@jothmar interesting thought, jothmar. Does that mean that morals are relative? If there is no God, and there is no law, each person has there own set or moral laws. Just because the pedophile thinks what he is doing is ok, does that make it ok?
@MrBigDaddyT -Strawman. I was not saying there were no morals. Just questioning the unsubstantiated claim that the law of the Torah is actually the standard we should look at. There are many religions, many codes. There must be evidence that the Torah is God's and that God exists as the Torah describes if we are to rule out all others and say we must follow the Torah or be forgiven for our sins we have committed against the Torah. Many other codes do not require we believe in some sacrifice.
@MrBigDaddyT Just like language, we have created a tool that allows our societies to operate. Most people prefer to have society on their side (safety in numbers) and therefore ascribe to the morals of their current society. However, do not mistake me to propose that there is not some cosmic being creating laws for us to follow. I don't care to fight that battle now. What I'm pointing out is that no one has anything to back up the claim that Judeo-Christian morals are the correct standard.
@jothmar Doesn't your own God-given conscience confirm that there is right and wrong. If our society said that murder is ok, wouldn't your conscience speak against it, whether society believes it is right or night?
@MrBigDaddyT You assert that my conscience is God given. Another claim. Please show why my conscience must necessarily be God-given. And note that society hardly ever says that murder is ok. But- when a society does say certain things are ok (which are not held to be ok according to Christian rules) people's consciences in that society do not make them feel guilty. For instance, multiple wives- Africans and Middle Eastern people do not feel guilty for having more than one wife.
You realize that divine command theory has absolutely nothing to do with our "god-given conscience." God could say tomorrow that it was ethical to murder all babies, and no matter how much it was against our conscience, it would be moral by definition of Divine Command Theory. I am not really saying that god would do that, but I am saying that our conscience plays absolutely no part in morality according to Divine Command Theory, and appealing to it is a red herring.
@MaximumAxiom That's one of the craziest things I've heard. This is an example of how a godless world view can mess your head up completely. God has given us a conscience, why would he then change his mind? He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and he is our creator. We are made in His image. Our conscience is more than a bunch of cells buzzing around our heads. If that is all it were, none of us would be accountable for anything we did.
"God has given us a conscience, why would he then change his mind?"
It seems pretty uncontroversial to me that some of god's commands don't line up with up with our conscience.
Lets look at Abram and Issac. Assuming Abraham was human, his conscience probably told him that sacrificing his son was wrong, and didn't feel right. Yet he was a true Divine Command Theorist because he followed god's command all the way through. God's commands don't even often agree with our conscience.
@MrBigDaddyT Or that "God" exists.Or that if he does that his standards are those Christian standards. Just claim after claim after claim with no backing. The problem with the whole moral argument is that it doesn't actually answer the question. When a non-believer asks the question I've been asking the only way to hold your position is to substantiate your previously unsubstantiated claims. Not to rabbit trail the subject making the atheist somehow feel guilty for supporting pedophiles ha! ;)
@krystentravels sure I do. 2+2 is always 4. Believe me, I've heard the arguments before and even argued your side before. Morals are likely contrived by man. But even hypothetically speaking, if one was to propose that there was a single moral standard (absolute truth in contrast to multiple moral standards-relative truth) they would have to substantiate why a certain one was THE one... If the Torah (or Judeo-Christian morals, which have many interpretations in themselves) WHY the Torah?
@ddrninjette Yes, I know that. Good point. But I was choosing my battles and trying to not allow the other side throw out a red herring. Don't know if you read the whole thread of comments. :]
nope Todd in your view, Jesus only died for the elect before the foundation of the world sinners---the rest were already damned before they got the choice.
Either way, good video--you're just not consistent.
not if a Calvinist believes TULIP--it's just consistency. Jesus didn't die for all sinners in that view, only the "U-nconditionally elected" sinners, so the atonement was "L-imited" to only certain individuals chosen before the foundation of the world, the rest U-conditionally elected to hell before the foundation of the world.
I think I understand the Calvinist mindset perfectly, it's unbiblical lies.
@droptozro "It's unbiblical lies" you have to throw out a lot of scripture, like all of it, to make that claim. Why not read Titus chapter 1 verse 1 where Paul basically says that He was called to give faith to who??? THE ELECT because that is how God chose to draw them and in a similar fashion God calls believers to preach the gospel so that the elect might be saved. They will be saved, because God has predestined our obedience as well.
@droptozro Ok, I totally agree elect means 'beloved' God loves his bride, but the bride was predestined. but seriously this is not the place to discuss this topic (we won't get anywhere anyway) I just don't see how you think he is inconsistent. Jesus died for sinners, that is true because the elect were sinners. I apologize if any of my comments were delivered without love. God bless :-)
I don't find "Jesus died for sinners" offensive at all. I make no politically correct excuse or apology for Jesus Christ. In fact, calling it offensive is offensive to me. That said, I completely agree with the law exposing sin to show the need for a savior... that's what the law is for. But we must be careful not to turn salvation into a sales pitch ("Have you ever told a lie? What does that make you?"...). It comes off cold and uncaring... in my opinion. God bless.

I've done my research, have you done yours? And why would you place your bets on the .0001% chance that Christianity is true. What if Islam is true? Pretty sure their hell would be worse than ours! (not to mention their heaven better than ours! Woohoo for virgins!)
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar I guarantee you if we had this conversation with you on the cusp of death, it would go much differently. But it's obvious you don't want to hear it now. Your 0% statistic makes perfect sense because believers don't go to hell and if given a second chance, non-believers don't want to return. When the lights go out and you smell burning flesh, you will understand why I tried to help you. God bless.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Let me repeat- 38% of Christians see hell. 0% of non-religious people see hell. It is the reverse of what you just said and therefore does not support your case. And no, I completely understand why you would try to convert me. I even highly commend you for it. I once wanted to be a missionary and was very concerned for the souls of other people. There is nothing better than saving a soul- if it is possible. So thank you for your concern. Fear does not make something true, however.
jothmar 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 If I was afraid on my death bed, it would not make your God real. But honestly, you have it wrong. I would actually love to be converted. There are many perks to being able to believe I will have eternal life. My problem is that all I hear are terrible reasons (fear, the Bible says so, etc). What I REALLY want to hear are good reasons to convert that set Christianity apart from other myths. But if all you have left is continued faulty logic, please- do stop.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar My God is real whether you fear Him or not. But you're right, I can't convert you with my words. Only the Holy Spirit can work through you and convict your heart... if He chooses to. You can't come to Him unless He calls you. So unfortunately, all I can do is pray that the Lord will soften your heart and let you know that I love you and want the best for you. Hell aside, I would just love to meet you in heaven one day my friend. God bless you.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Pray that God softens their heart? Do you think this person has a "hardened heart?" They seem friendly to me.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette A hardened heart is more of a biblical phrase that has nothing to do with friendliness, kindness, gentleness, empathy, sympathy, or generosity... rather a persons' resistance to the truth of Jesus Christ. It was not an insult on his character or on him at all. I am no better than him nor will I ever claim to be. The difference between him and I is that I have been eternally blessed by the forgiveness of God. I did nothing to earn that forgiveness, Jesus did everything.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Being hard heartened is a 12th century English phrase, I believe, and it means to be unfeeling or apathetic. The person who came up with it was Anicius Boethius in the 6th century (not in English of course). The definition never had anything to do with "resistance to the truth."
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette Your hard heart has blinded the truth from you too my friend. I'm afraid the book of Exodus was written 3,400 years ago and it contains the phrase numerous times. It also appears many more times throughout the bible. Your attempts at displaying Google-wisdom has let you down, and if it hadn't, who cares? Such wisdom (or the real worldly kind for that matter) means nothing in the end... all that matters is whether you had enough wisdom to surrender to Christ.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 The old testament was written in Hebrew, not English. The phrase "hardened heart" is not a direct or literal translation.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette Yes, according to my Interlinear Hebrew/Greek/English bible the original text is directly translated to "hardened heart". Strong's number 3820 לֵב (heart), 2388 חָזַק (hardened). Maybe you should surrender to Christ now because 'guessing' is about as reliable as google apparently. And if you're wrong about these things, perhaps there's a chance you're wrong about Jesus Christ?
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Read the full definitions of the Hebrew words. Indeed, leb means emotion or heart. But "chazaq " which is translated as "harden" has more to do with strengthening, growing, and prevailing. In other words, it's talking about strengthening the soul. So, in a turn of irony, when the Old Testament talks about "the hardening of hearts" they mean the opposite of what the phrase means today.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette Since when does 'strengthening' mean the opposite of 'harden'? That's a stretch and you're grasping at straws. With all due respect, notice that you just said "the Old Testament talks about "the hardening of hearts"". Don't you see that you've just admittedly debunked your 6th century theory? But really, who cares? None of this matters. As if proving a Christian wrong verifies that Christ didn't die for your sins? I apologize if I've hit a nerve with you. God bless you friend.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 You honestly want me to believe an English phrase was derived from the Bible even though it was found written down in the context of today's meanings hundreds of years before the first English translation of the Bible? Common Biblical phrases didn't make their way into the lexicon until after the KJ Bible.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette I won't lose sleep over what you believe and what you don't... well, that's not true, I will actually plead with God tonight to reveal Himself to you. The apostle Paul used to kill Christians for a living. If Jesus Christ can reach Paul, he can reach you. I know this is probably insulting to you, but my heart breaks for you because you not only ignore the truth, you seem to resist it at all cost. Your level of hatred for God may one day turn to the same level of love for Him.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Doesn't sound like anyone is ignoring truth around here. Just ignoring unfounded claims. It doesn't cost us much to not buy BS. But then again I guess it doesn't cost you much to try to sell it.
jothmar 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 "I will actually plead with God tonight to reveal Himself to you."
If God existed, I would be grateful if He did that.
"you not only ignore the truth, you seem to resist it at all cost."
I do my best to keep up with the latest facts, science, and ideas... :/
"Your level of hatred for God may one day turn to the same level of love for Him."
I think it already has...
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 You believe my heart is hardened... I believe you are brainwashed. Guess we are even. The one advantage is I have not thrown out the one bone God threw us (if he exists), which is reason. God bless you too, on the .0001% off chance that he's there. ;)
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar Thank you for the bitter-sweet words. I will admit, my worldly reason may be slightly askew, but it's no different than a 'first love'... nothing else matters but that love. Jesus Christ is so worth whatever loss I suffer in this world. If He reveals Himself to you one day, you will see what I mean. Until then, I wish you all the best.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 BTW: Knowing words and phrases and being able to use the Dictionary is not "Google wisdom." It's basic English.

@cdklassen2 Maybe god hardened his heart like he did to pharaoh to glorify himself more.
Oh what a lucky person of god is doing that to him so god can stroke his own ego more!

@jwissick One day you will regret your blasphemies... I guarantee it. Hopefully you're still alive at the time.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2
So you are denying that god hardened peoples hearts to make himself look better?
jwissick 3 months ago
@jwissick re:hardening hearts.....take a piece of soft wax and a piece of soft clay and shine the Sun (pun intended) on them. The wax will soften but the clay will harden. The same Sun, different reactions. There are those who will accept God, and those who will reject even when both receive the same thing from God. It was Pharaoh's choice to be hardened....God simply predicted the result because he knew Pharaoh was someone like.....you (?).
KJVWordofGod 3 months ago
@KJVWordofGod Exodus 4:21, Exodus 7:3, Exodus 7:13, Exodus 10:20 etc. etc. etc. "But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go." "but I will harden his heart, that he shall not let the people go."
Doesn't sound like a prediction, but a positive action. Your god raised up Pharaoh and hardened Pharaoh's heart in order to promote his own glory. Romans 9:17
So, either you are wrong, the bible is wrong, or you lied or it's all BS.
jwissick 3 months ago
@jwissick God promoted a man who was evil because God knew how the evil man would react. Does not mean the evil man had no choice, just means God knew what the choice would be. You already understand this and you understand the explanation given before. For a man who rejects God, you spend a lot of time and energy talking about God. One would think you'd have more important things to do....since God has no value or meaning to you. You believe in God, you're just fighting it...and him.
KJVWordofGod 3 months ago
@KJVWordofGod I think most of us are fighting ignorance and brainwashing- not God. You can say we believe in God all you want, you can say he exists all you want. It does not make it true, unfortunately.

jwissick 3 months ago
@JMcH I'm not clear as to whether your comment is actually an attempt at argumentation or purposeful "He said, She said." You didn't offer proof, just a contrary claim. In support of my claim- I was a Christian for 14 years, raised by Christian parents, while my father was a pastor. Additionally, I have gone on mission trips to Mozambique, South Africa, Romania, and Costa Rica. While I was in those countries I even preached and led worship. So I know a bit about Christianity.
jothmar 3 months ago
@JMcH My knowledge of brainwashing... hmm well other than having been raised in a Christian home with a pastor for a father- I also double checked it in Webster's: a forcible indoctrination to induce someone to give up basic political, social, or religious beliefs and attitudes & to accept contrasting regimented ideas. For some I suppose you are right, if they were indoctrinated at a young age they may have not have previous beliefs & therefore would simply be "indoctrinated" & not brainwashed
jothmar 3 months ago
@KJVWordofGod jwissick rejecting your faulty reasoning is not equivalent to rejecting God.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar jwissick rejects not my reasoning....he rejects the Truth....and since he rejects the Truth...he rejects God. Joh:14:6: "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life"........God=Jesus=Truth Reject one, you reject all. Hope that helps.
KJVWordofGod 2 months ago
@KJVWordofGod No it doesn't help. Obviously you do not have an understanding for logic or reason. Mohammed also said that what he said was truth. By your logic, by rejecting Mohammed you are rejecting God and truth. A claim to be truth, deity, or whatever the hell you want, does not make it so. So go right ahead and feel high and mighty that somehow magically you have figured out the "Truth" magically without any proper reasoning.
jothmar 2 months ago

Your precious Bible. Now that isn't just conspiracy theory. It is fact.

JMcH 3 months ago
@ddrninjette Knowing them and forcing them are two different things. You seem like a philosophic person. Know this... all life would be a joke, a great cosmic, God driven joke...and essentially pointless, except for one thing....God.....Jesus Christ suffered and died at the hand of man, for man...for you. Had God not done that...all life would be a pointless joke, but because Jesus died for us.....life is real and has meaning and is poignant and profound and God is the lover of our souls.
KJVWordofGod 3 months ago

ddrninjette 3 months ago

@jwissick - "So, either you are wrong, the bible is wrong, or you lied or it's all BS. "
I'm going with option #5: James Wissick is wrong (and is presenting a false dilemma to try to avoid admitting that that's a very valid option). Tell me, James, if you annoy someone and they go away from me because of it, what is happening? Are they leaving because of what you are doing or are they choosing of their own volition to leave? Can't it be both? In fact, it is. This is only logical.
JMcH 3 months ago
@jwissick - And yes, James, the Bible says both that God hardened Pharaoh's heart and that Pharaoh hardened his own heart. The situation is a bit more complex than you falsely make it out to be. God's actions hardened Pharaoh's heart, but it was Pharaoh's choice to react that way to God's actions.
JMcH 3 months ago

Why do you think we became Christians, James? Because it sounded like the "best bet?" What nonsense! But that is what you are arguing by using those ridiculous terms.
JMcH 3 months ago
@cdklassen2
"but why would you"
You ought to do a Google search on Pascal's Wager.
MaximumAxiom 3 months ago
@MaximumAxiom You're right... my argument about there being even a small chance that hell is real... is weak at best, especially when having a theological debate. However, my intention was not to prove anything, but rather to shed light on the possibility.
Stimulating somebody's brain to reproduce the symptoms of a trip to hell? That's how you debunk every person who had the same vivid trip to hell?
LaVey never converted... dying he was quoted repeating "There's something very wrong."
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 (1)
MaximumAxiom 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 (2)
MaximumAxiom 3 months ago
God is so awesome and merciful. Praise YHWH Almighty!!! Even though every last one of us is wicked and disobedient, He still offers us a way to Him... Yahshua His one and only son, the only risen one, King of kings and Lord of lords. Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. AMEN!
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 How do you know any of that to be true? Christians are hilarious, when support is requested for their unsubstantiated claims count on them to just blast their claims louder. They've been brainwashed and simply re-spout every claim they heard when they first converted that they never thought to question. Stop and think. How do you know any of it is true? Because your pastor told you? Because your Bible says so? How do you know these to be good sources?
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar Because the Holy Spirit dwells inside of me. You will have no idea what I'm talking about until you turn to Jesus Christ... then it all makes sense. God bless you.

ddrninjette 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 I've been a Christian before. Even "baptized by the Holy Spirit." It only made more sense because I was not utilizing my brain. The first is impossible according to Christianity and the second means God only saves stupid people.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar Right on.
jwissick 3 months ago
@jothmar Listen to what you just said... (I paraphrase). "I was baptized by the Holy Spirit but I wasn't using my brain." You are implying that now your brain is being utilized but I beg to differ. "For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools..." Whether you like it or not, you will be in my prayers my friend.
cdklassen2 3 months ago
@cdklassen2 Circular. You are using your own Scriptures (the validity of which are currently being debated) as your only source material. A wise God would give his children more to stand on. "Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call to her tribunal every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear."
-Thomas Jefferson
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar scripture proves itself over and over. with that number of authors (40 in total) agreeing on EVERYTHING is not reality if it is just myth. And who are you to say what a wise God would or would not do? how do you know that God is doing the wise thing and our perception of wisdom is completely false. What I'm trying to say is that you can't get solid facts on anything. You have faith that your senses are working, but you don't know for sure. What is the difference between that and God?
swimmerfish34 3 months ago
@swimmerfish34 It is quite debatable as to whether the authors agreed on everything. Even if it were the case, it would not prove its truthfulness (just its consistency). And who am I? Well apparently someone who has about as much to stand on when claiming what God would be like as any of you Christians. But, yes, by all means, since solid facts are not an option and reason is not part of the equation- and even our senses are thrown out... Yes, yes, now I will convert. Praise Jesus! hahaha
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar First, you try getting 40 people, most of whom never knew each other, and make them agree of EVERYTHING. Second; you don't have anything to stand on, you don't appear to believe in any deity and therefore have only yourself to stand on, which is always in question. Try finding answers to purpose of existence and morality some other way, it doesn't work. you won't hear from me again. God bless
swimmerfish34 3 months ago
@swimmerfish34 Yes, it would be difficult, but would not prove the truthfulness of the Bible. Consistency does not equal truthfulness. You have a bunch of claims you have decided to accept by faith. When the existence of a deity is the subject in question, the belief in the deity does not mean you have something to stand on. e.g. Belief in claim X by side A does not make side A more valid than side B. Support for claim X would make side A stronger, but not belief.
jothmar 3 months ago
The "law" is flawed. You can't claim the moral high ground when your god endorses slavery, rape, and doesn't condemn buggering of children.
A god that demands purity of thought has impossible standards and can't be considered perfect.
The cross doesn't make sense to anyone who thinks rationally about it.

@jwissick I think that if people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are are a sorry lot indeed.

@JMcH What scientific theory states we came from nothing because of nothing for no reason?
ddrninjette 3 months ago
Personally, I think the message is more offensive the more it is explained, but that's just me. I mean, the message transgressed from Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to God punishes thought crimes.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette You are absolutely right.

imagine if the white person said "all you black people look alike"
that would be considered racist
556todd 3 months ago
@556todd Uhh... that's the joke. It's supposed to be racist.
ddrninjette 3 months ago
Funny thing is Todd (or anyone else) can't even prove the law is from God. He is right, there is a lack of information- proof that we should believe any of the law is God's or even that God exists. So yeah, go ahead and make people feel bad about their sin and then pitch your "answer to their problem." That's the way all bad sales pitches work. Make up a problem that the customer needs to fix and then "save them" from the fabricated problem.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar interesting thought, jothmar. Does that mean that morals are relative? If there is no God, and there is no law, each person has there own set or moral laws. Just because the pedophile thinks what he is doing is ok, does that make it ok?
MrBigDaddyT 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT -Strawman. I was not saying there were no morals. Just questioning the unsubstantiated claim that the law of the Torah is actually the standard we should look at. There are many religions, many codes. There must be evidence that the Torah is God's and that God exists as the Torah describes if we are to rule out all others and say we must follow the Torah or be forgiven for our sins we have committed against the Torah. Many other codes do not require we believe in some sacrifice.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar If there are morals, where do they come from? Do we choose the ones we want to follow? Is each person able to choose their own?
MrBigDaddyT 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT Just like language, we have created a tool that allows our societies to operate. Most people prefer to have society on their side (safety in numbers) and therefore ascribe to the morals of their current society. However, do not mistake me to propose that there is not some cosmic being creating laws for us to follow. I don't care to fight that battle now. What I'm pointing out is that no one has anything to back up the claim that Judeo-Christian morals are the correct standard.
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar Doesn't your own God-given conscience confirm that there is right and wrong. If our society said that murder is ok, wouldn't your conscience speak against it, whether society believes it is right or night?
MrBigDaddyT 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT You assert that my conscience is God given. Another claim. Please show why my conscience must necessarily be God-given. And note that society hardly ever says that murder is ok. But- when a society does say certain things are ok (which are not held to be ok according to Christian rules) people's consciences in that society do not make them feel guilty. For instance, multiple wives- Africans and Middle Eastern people do not feel guilty for having more than one wife.
jothmar 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT
MaximumAxiom 3 months ago
@MaximumAxiom That's one of the craziest things I've heard. This is an example of how a godless world view can mess your head up completely. God has given us a conscience, why would he then change his mind? He is the same yesterday, today and forever, and he is our creator. We are made in His image. Our conscience is more than a bunch of cells buzzing around our heads. If that is all it were, none of us would be accountable for anything we did.
MrBigDaddyT 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT
MaximumAxiom 3 months ago
@MrBigDaddyT Or that "God" exists.Or that if he does that his standards are those Christian standards. Just claim after claim after claim with no backing. The problem with the whole moral argument is that it doesn't actually answer the question. When a non-believer asks the question I've been asking the only way to hold your position is to substantiate your previously unsubstantiated claims. Not to rabbit trail the subject making the atheist somehow feel guilty for supporting pedophiles ha! ;)
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar just curious, do you believe in absolute truth?
krystentravels 3 months ago
@krystentravels sure I do. 2+2 is always 4. Believe me, I've heard the arguments before and even argued your side before. Morals are likely contrived by man. But even hypothetically speaking, if one was to propose that there was a single moral standard (absolute truth in contrast to multiple moral standards-relative truth) they would have to substantiate why a certain one was THE one... If the Torah (or Judeo-Christian morals, which have many interpretations in themselves) WHY the Torah?
jothmar 3 months ago
@jothmar The idea that human morality was created by anything other than an us seems as silly as saying math was invested by supernatural forces. :)
ddrninjette 3 months ago
@ddrninjette Yes, I know that. Good point. But I was choosing my battles and trying to not allow the other side throw out a red herring. Don't know if you read the whole thread of comments. :]

nope Todd in your view, Jesus only died for the elect before the foundation of the world sinners---the rest were already damned before they got the choice.
Either way, good video--you're just not consistent.
droptozro 3 months ago
@droptozro I think you have a bit of a misunderstanding of the Calvinist mindset
swimmerfish34 3 months ago
@swimmerfish34
not if a Calvinist believes TULIP--it's just consistency. Jesus didn't die for all sinners in that view, only the "U-nconditionally elected" sinners, so the atonement was "L-imited" to only certain individuals chosen before the foundation of the world, the rest U-conditionally elected to hell before the foundation of the world.
I think I understand the Calvinist mindset perfectly, it's unbiblical lies.
droptozro 3 months ago
@droptozro "It's unbiblical lies" you have to throw out a lot of scripture, like all of it, to make that claim. Why not read Titus chapter 1 verse 1 where Paul basically says that He was called to give faith to who??? THE ELECT because that is how God chose to draw them and in a similar fashion God calls believers to preach the gospel so that the elect might be saved. They will be saved, because God has predestined our obedience as well.
swimmerfish34 3 months ago
@swimmerfish34
...Titus 1 does not say at all what you claim, it just says Paul's an apostle according to the faith of God's elect.
That's like me saying I'm a deacon(I'm not, just example) according to 1 Tim 3. It just means he fits the faith of one sent out by Christ.
Want to rock your world? Define "elect"--because you're imposing your personal definition on it, not a Scriptural one.
For example, compare Matthew 12:18 to it's original quote from Isaiah 42:1 ...elect means "beloved"
droptozro 3 months ago
@droptozro Ok, I totally agree elect means 'beloved' God loves his bride, but the bride was predestined. but seriously this is not the place to discuss this topic (we won't get anywhere anyway) I just don't see how you think he is inconsistent. Jesus died for sinners, that is true because the elect were sinners. I apologize if any of my comments were delivered without love. God bless :-)
swimmerfish34 3 months ago
I don't find "Jesus died for sinners" offensive at all. I make no politically correct excuse or apology for Jesus Christ. In fact, calling it offensive is offensive to me. That said, I completely agree with the law exposing sin to show the need for a savior... that's what the law is for. But we must be careful not to turn salvation into a sales pitch ("Have you ever told a lie? What does that make you?"...). It comes off cold and uncaring... in my opinion. God bless.
