It's tiring to keep hearing comments about their relationship and "ego". The last record....er, disc...he put out was 5 songs - 4 of them were Lisa only vocals and 2 were her own compositions that would appear on her debut. That doesn't sound very egotistical to me.
And even if there was a bunch of trauma between them - that's actually a good thing for songwriting. What would Fleetwood Mac have become if the entire band wasn't sleeping with each other and breaking up? Trauma = good music.
@rockandrollkevin was wondering the same thing... I think it might have been at this point that Letterman was recovering from his heart surgery or whatever it was, so he needed someone to sub.
This thing won't let me say what I want to ! ... She is the talent... how many hits has he had without her ? (I saw them both solo ... he was boring ... even doing all "his" hits from "Oh".... she was amazing... even though she was doing stuff I'd never heard of !!!
@HowaYe I saw him last year solo, and he puts so much passion and vigor into his performance. It was phenomenal... While her voice is quite lovely, she's just an accessory to his music.
PS. I dont want to make it seem like i think Simon and Garfunkel is the best thing Paul Simon ever did, he has done amazing work since.... just a clarification.
I hate tom green 3 or is it 4 now? And Damien Rice is an amazing songwriter and performer and his partnership with Lisa Hannigan was brilliant. Her voice is ethereal and haunting, phenomenal, sadly her songwriting is both soporific and peppy to point that i feel like a schizophrenic.. Yes she needs Damien more then he needs her, but sadly i think the short span of this partnership will be the best thing musically either of them ever do. She is Garfunkel to his Simon.
@SolaceG I half agree. But I think Lisa's stuff since has been amazing. Check out the version of 'I don't know' from Dick Mac's pub in Dingle. A better feel good moment from this lousy year I have not yet met..
Such a shame egos got in the way and him and Lisa don't sing together anymore... what an incredible duo... on another note... does anyone else just wanna punch Tom Green in the head??? Even when he's being normal he's annoying.
i dont know if it was nessecarly cuz of egos, i think its cuz she wanted to pursue a solo career and prove to herself that she doesnt need damien rice to be succesful...and she has an amazing voice and they were amazzing together...but bottom line is that she needs him more than he needs her
not true, damien is great, but Lisa has made AMAZING music since she left damien, she is very very talented she was wasted just standing and singing for damien.... also the whole left damien with her!
@eshana1anam I respect your opinion, but I don't share it. After listening to 5 different songs by Lisa Hannigan with her new group, she seems lost. Without the sharp contrast with Damien's 's voice and the lack of the cello reveal her voice to be too soft and sweet to stand on its own. There is little diversity in her voice and phrasing, essential to better music. And for some reason, she even doesn't look nearly as beautiful now.
@Zeppolino100 If you ever get a chance to see Lisa hannigan live please do so, you might change your mind. She's one of the very few artists who sound even better live, than on the recording. Her voice is strong without losing any of its warmth.
I've been following Damien's career for quite some time now.... the man does Not have one single bad song... And how awesome it is to see such intense, pure pleasure when he sings... amaizing in every way!
quite liked how they included the drums in that bridge part, i actually prefer it that way! in fact that's the only bit i don't like in the recorded album version, so i liked this version better
Same taping session. They aired this one on the regular show and the cannonball was taped at the end but never made it to the tv, they ended up posting it on the cbs website instead.
Lol, i love how they gave Viv a carpet so her cello didn't slip! bless :] Aww Damo looks so young and cheeky with his long hair! Natürlich, liebe ich er ^_^

It was clearly just a matter of time when Lisa Hannigan would outshine the lot.
ArtfulMind 5 months ago
Damien didn't look at Lisa once during the performance although she looked at him.
ndg43 6 months ago
@ndg43 That's because he has the guitar, and she has to time her performance with his - it's critical for the timing in this song.
mothgraphics 4 months ago
@mothgraphics Agreed, probably just focused on the song/ guitar, not on purpose trying to ignore the rest of the band :+)

@mothgraphics Besides, she shands slightly behind him, to akward to turn when playing I guess

david letterman probably missed out on the best ever live performance on his show.

You'd need a diamond blade to cut the tension between Lisa and Damian on that stage. They are far too different in an opposing way, to play together.
