  • Aluminium is a lot lighter than copper, but copper is a slightly better conductor. Aluminium is cheaper. The steel in the middle of the large cable carries even less current that ohms law would predict due to skin effect where do to the 60 Hz the current will travel more towards the outside than middle on such a large cable.. Good to see up close...

  • I thought they were copper wires up there.

  • wow that is soo interesting *sarcasm*

  • why do americans say aluminium like aloominum

  • @MmmmPie69 because we spell it different than the british. we dont have the extra i at the end.

  • @101111101101 thanks dawg

  • @MmmmPie69 cause that's the correct way to pronounce it.

  • @MmmmPie69

    They say "Tom-ay-toe" we say "Toe-mah-toe" :)

Sorry, no idea how to hanswer your question.

  • Just imagine the amount of current flowing through that huge ass HT wire

  • bit rubbish that it just ends right when you were getting in to it

  • thats a pretty big crimp!

  • it loks like some cheap cable(steel + al)cause I saw some with Cu core and steel wires around a core..If my memory is working right

  • When compared by weight, aluminum is a lot more conductive than copper, which is why it is used.

  • @CjGaughan Aluminum is used primarily because it doesn't oxidize as bad as copper, and it's cheaper. Copper is by far a better conductor

  • Thank you. Make more info about HT power lines please.

  • Thanks a lot

  • People like you should make more videos like this!

  • doyou know anywhere that i could get about 2 meters of cable rated at 1.5volts at 2000Amps

    (yes you read correctly!)

  • u can just use a copper rod......anyway what the fuck do u want that for?

  • I'm building a spot welder from a microwave transformer with a 2 turn secondary

  • ask for a pair of 4 gauge 2 meter long wires and then connect them in parallel.

  • where can i get 4 gauge wire?

  • here u can buy it at any electronics store i don't know about the uk though but if they dont have 4 gauge wire, ask for smaller sized wire and connect all of them in parallel =)

  • i was thinking along the lines of using a copper earth rod

  • nice vid! LEt's make more like this!
