They don't use the word "Medic" as an occupation ie: EMS, EMTS. They use it to indicate their role in the protest. They are legally protected to act in this manner by the "Good Sameritan Law". Granted this law may very in differant ereas, requiring the person to pass a basic 1st Aid Course. But for the most part, no Course completion is required. And I'm sure that the protestors know the dangers they face and are willing to have someone give them immediate aid. I'd be a medic, given the chance.

An ambulance was called when the first person I treated had been shot 7 times in the back with rubber bullets as he ran from the tear gas. The ambulance that they said was on hand showed up 45 minutes later, and most of the victims had already ben put in a van which drove them to a clinic if they needed.

Yes, the fire department is more than capable of handling the injuries that occurred...but they didn't. They ambulance never left the enclosure to come help people after they had been hurt. I do not know why, or on who's orders, but regardless, there was a group of medics (varying from unprofessionally trained and professionally trained i.e. EMT) there throughout the two weeks in order to assure that these people stayed safe.

Actually, I can't speak for the medics in the video, but many street medics have certifications- Wilderness First Aid (20 training hours), Wilderness First Responder (90 hours of training), and some of us ARE EMT's and paramedics. We carry more than bandaids, and if you're injured in front of us, we'd be happy to help by stopping bleeding, holding C-Spine and transferring you to further emergency care asap.
