  • com surrogate is annoying

  • bro your the man!

  • thnx....

    for the tip..

i download the codec mega pack..

  • ffdshow video decoder causes this as well

  • It does'nt cause the error now,,, the new ffdshow BETA fixes it instantly,,,, how do i know?? i got a feed and downloaded it and now all the icons which were defaults are now images of the content and no com surrogate error has been a problem since.....

  • Nope, I have the latest version. I checked xvid and it looks like I have the older version 1.1.3, I've updated to 1.2.2 and it seems to be fixed now. :D

No more errors, yay! Thx! ^^

  • Thank you. I've also noticed that it had something to do with the DivX codec. When I opened a folder with avi files using DivX, the crash report came up... Well, I'll try to update it and see what happens. :)

  • the simplest thing is uninstall nero and ur computer works just fine, no com surrogate crashes =D!

  • This thing hasn't been fixed even in Windows 7!

Even with excluding the COM Surrogate, installing newest Nero and Divx, it still pops up.

  • I Don't Use DIVX Or NREO I Use VLC Media Player And Roxio Creator 2009 Ultimate

  • my COM Surrogate Crash on me

  • where do i download newest DivX?

  • Guys i need help this COM surrogate error message comes up, it says COM Surrogate has stopped working, and i clicked on find solutions and it says its caused by xvid can someone help, does it happen when you have programs that aren't vista compatible like imgburn

  • i used Xvid Codec (1.210

  • Hi, my PC found a solution that says that I m8 need to uninstall PICVideo (Pegasus Imaging Corp) v2 and install the newest version of it (v3). But can't find any program files of it...?? What the hell is happening.

  • Might also be related to the old URGE program. Try uninstalling it.

  • I was having com surrogate pop up like crazy and I just couldn't figure out how to solve the problem. I'm so glad you posted this vid. It helped me a lot. And com surrogate doesn't show up anymore. YAY!

    P.S.

    You're a cutie. *wink* ~_^

  • If after you uninstall Xvid of FourCC you can't play Divx videos, just download THE CURRENT divx codec or, even better, the divx player...

  • I found a new solution for this problem... If you have installed KLM Codec Pack or K-Lite codec pack, then you have a codec named Xvid on your computer (it could also be name FourCC), just search for it, open it's location, find the uninstaller, and get rid of it...

  • I have this error on 64 bit Vista. I cant click add on that list cuz it says its only for 64 bit executables

  • This guy sucks!!! Aint know shit about anything! Fuck you!

  • i think that thing broke my itouch

  • ty you help me alot all the time

  • I disabled it in Windows XP Media Center (SP2) through my firewall, because it seems to always want to receive data from an IP, Everytime I opened Windows Media Player 11. But after not giving it access to the net, it would slow down WMP11 down, ALOT. So I enabled it back ,and it downloaded 3MB of who knows what, and now WMP11 is working fast again. Not sure what it is downloading, :-\

  • From what i know COM Surrogate in vista shows you the thumbnails of video clips. A possible way to fix this irritating crash is by 1. Right-click Computer. 2. Properties. 3. Advanced system settings. 4. Settings. (Under performance) 5. Click Data Execution Prevention. 6. Click the 2nd circle. (Turn on DEP for all programs and services except...). 7. Add. 8. Type "dllhost.exe" (Without quotes) 9. Ok. 10. Restart. Problem should be solved.
  • Hi,

It doesn't work on my Vista.

yes - I did exactly what you said to do and yes - i rebooted too.

i just thought i would let you know that it didn't fix my annoying COM Surrogate ERROR message problems.

please write me back if you found a way that does work.

    thank you,

    awope1 (Michael)

  • Programs such as DivX Player & Nero 7 and below are also among the ones causing these problems. Update any DivX Player to the latest version and if you use Nero, upgrade to version 8 because version 8 is certified for vista. You should update your computer using Windows Update because this problem should have been fixed through an update.
