But those drove up the costs of the PS3. Without the PS2 CPU and GPU, the PS3 can't fun PS2 games even with emulation.

@ulkord And technically, the PS3's hardware is not capable of running PS2 games without PS2 hardware. This is because PS2 games were specifically designed for the MIPS CPU architecture of the PS2's CPU. However, the PS3's CPU is PowerPC-based similar to the Xbox 360. PowerPC cannot run MIPS and vice versa, just like how x86 cannot run ARM natively and vice versa.

Therefore, the PS3's CPU and GPU are physically incapable of running PS2 games.

The reason why Microsoft was able to make an x86 emulator for the Xbox 360 is because x86 emulators are relatively easy to make and have been widely used for awhile. But MIPS is vastly different from PowerPC and making an emulator would require a lot of research & development. Sony doesn't have that kind of time or resources like Microsoft does.

i love gaming in general but i grew up with the C64 (almost 20 years before the ps2) the only reason why so many feel the ps2 is the best is cause of its popularity, does that mean that windows is better than mac or ford is better than bugatti, a simple no is the answer there were some fantastic game on the GQ,DC,N64 ect plenty of oportunity to play some fantastic games or miss them cause 1 console is more popular so you've chosen to ignore it and current gen is no exception the 360 is also cool

It's a f***ing GAME! Who cares about the models' footsteps? The gameplay makes the game! It's nice to have more realistic models, but it's not essential. Make a demo of some physics engine that has an impact on the gameplay. And why is the audience laughing at the models? Obviously a 333 Mhz Emotion Engine (or something like that) is not CELL. You don't have to be a genius to know that.
