The ONLY role posterity will come to remember & prize is that of lovely Katherine Ross in Graduate -- what ruined that film was the casting of Hoffman in the role: a dork, too short, old & his ridiculously stubby cross-swinging held-high arms indicate NO actual athletic experience: certainly not a track and field guy -- a tart. The audience close-up of Ross is beautiful: besides, she was much more of lead than a supporting second-fiddle act, she STOLE HEARTS & the film for an entire generation
@CarCriticAssessor yeah, I too thought Hoffman was miscast in THE GRADUATE. I mean, his parents looked very Aryan and not much older than he. I heard that Robert Redford was considered, and though he's around Hoffman's age, how can you go from that to that?
@pianoman8882 half the women and quite a few men in those days made good use of warren and his talent for sleeping with anyone who helped his career, a total whore !
I had the pleasure of meeting Estelle Parsons at a master acting class when she was touring with August: Osage County and she told us that she only took the role because she was working with Arthur Penn on a play and enjoyed it so much she thought she would work with him on this film. What a lucky whim.
Great clip. ALL of the women look smashing! Look over Walter's left shoulder as he descends the stairs. Standing ever so still is Sergio Mendes who was preparing to perform The Look of Love.
EP was sitting with Warren Beatty & Julie Christie (in a long skirt as opposed to the mini the year before. Can you post Paul Scofield's win?). That's Faye Dunaway & Jerry Schatzberg in front of her and Faye and Gene Hackman behind her. Rod Steiger & Claire Bloom are across the aisle.
We really need to see more of Ms. Parsons in films these days! I hear she was remarkable in the national tour of "August Osage County". Sidebar, Katherine Ross is stunning.
Poor Katherine. Shamelessly snubbed.

Very well deserved! She was amazing in "Bonnie and Clyde". Loved her in "Rachel, Rachel" too.

Funny that Estelle hugged and kissed Matthau. Great speech, deserved Oscar, I think.

Another great lineup for this utter memorable year 1967, Estelle Parsons deserved her award with Mildred Natwick being a verrrry close second.
