  • As a great-grandson of a Confederate veteran, I'd like to thank y'all for taking the time to re-enact this.....if I had time, I'd be there too....

  • This is the footage used in the so called "Confederate Soldiers Marching 1863 - Authentic American Civil War Footage"

  • hi guys to see a new video about the battle of mannasas(the first battle of the civil war) come visit srvztube channel to watch Battle of Manassas reenactment 150th Anniversary.

  • How many men were there for this reenactment?

  • what's the name of the first march these man are whistling?!! I've been lookin for it for a while, its' beautiful!! someone please let me know

  • @phideas the first tune played is called garry owen

  • @1stAres Thanks!, I really enjoy that march.

  • How much does equipment cost generally? Is Gettysburg the most Northern reenactment?

  • A for effort but I seriously doubt that Longstreet's men would have been playing the fife and drums on this march as this would have telegraphed their position and intent to the Union army. From the historical photos, the average soldier's weight appeared to be at least 80 lbs less than most of the soldiers in this video. I would also suggest that firing the first shots upon the flag of the United States at Ft. Sumter would certainly put the blame squarely upon the South for starting the war.

  • I'm in the 11th Al Cav. dismounted and mounted. We have 3 different company's A B and C. A is Mounted Cavalry, B is Dismounted Cavalry, and C is Artillery. Altogether we have about 60 soldiers and we have 5 cantineers. Cantineers were French and they were usually to bring the soldiers morale up and their spirits. Yes i know what your thinking , a woman amongst men away from home, she will probably get abused sexually but the higher ranks took punished men for that if the men got caught.

  • HOW MANY ARE THERE! LOOKS LIKE MORE THAN LEE HAD! WOW

  • That's no marching. That's walking.

  • There were no fat Confederates in the real ANV!

  • I'm a Yankee but this is cool!

  • i want to be a reenactor? any help making this a reality?

  • @Sto20784Once you have the gear hat you need, look up the certain company that you want to be in and see if there is a reenacting group for it. If there is a reenacting group contact them and ask if and how you can join.

  • @amazingmazie I'd wait until I join before buying equipment. Some reenactment groups may have specific things they use while in the field.

  • @hollywoodwerewolf Yea I thought about that after Iwrote the comment I am starting to look up reenacting groups myself but can't find any Confederate groups that are close to Pennsylvania.

  • @amazingmazie you can try to broaden your search in the Pennsylvania area perhaps there's a Union group that also does Confederate, although that could make the gear buying more expensive....

  • @hollywoodwerewolf I have also Heard that there is a Confederate group that is in New Jersey , but I can't find info on it :(

  • @amazingmazie the only Confederate group that I know of is on Long Island. 57th Virginia Co. B 'Franklin County Sharpshooters'. That could be too far...

  • @amazingmazie you're right, the 44th Georgia Infantry is based in New Jersey.

Do a Google search on "44th Georgia infantry company C NJ" and you'll see the website.

  • @amazingmazie The 44th Georgia does only one impression, Confederate. No Union impressions.

    44thgeorgiacompanyc . com

  • how do i get in

  • DAAAAAAAMMMMMMMN

ive never been to a reenactment THAT BIG

  • whoo battles rock

  • The tall officer in the frock coat and black hat is exceptionally well done, as well as his unit!

  • How long is the actual reenactment as a whole? By this I mean showing up and drilling and being with your company - not just the fighting. Do you arrive a week ahead of the battle reenactment? Thanks - this vid inspired me! :)

  • @Butternut731863 Camps usually open a day before the event, close down the day the event closes

  • @jimjamyou2be Okay, thanks!

  • @jimjamyou2be I think we got there about 3 p.m. on Wed. Got our camp going, and pulled out the next Monday morning.

It was a real mess how the organizers set up the CS artillery on a slope with wet grass rather than on the flat field by the barn. I spent more time waiting in the artillery park, or sitting in my truck towing the guns back and forth than anywhere else. I saw 3 guns get loose and careen down the hill and across the road. Scary as hell.

  • @Butternut731863 I live about...from gettysburg... he reenactment starts on the day of July 1st and ends on the 4th with a huge fire work show and Memorial... its amazing i cant Wait to go this year

  • @Random19Hero Thanks! :D

  • Great new novel GETTYSBURG OTHER TIMES... out now and a hoot of a read.

  • whos lee? whos playing him?

  • aah, lost file footage from the Civil War!

  • @Defender78 yes

  • LOOL cameras soldiers xD

  • Do you guys actually have rankings?

  • GOD Bless the CSA Forever!!!

  • Was that a british soldier at 4:50?

  • @yourmomma244 I believe that that was a member of a Zouave unit.

  • @yourmomma244

Yes it was a British Soldier. Generally at these large reenactments you must portray a particular individual to wear such a uniform.

  • 147th anniversary today, R.I.P. all

  • i would sell my soul just wave the rebel flag on the field of battle against the yankees

  • Minstrel Boy at 5:40!!

  • I wish I could participate in this event on the next go around.

Hampton's Legion Company G my band of brothers

  • Wow - this looks seriously impressive! Wish I could see it in the flesh - must be amazing.

  • 27th New Jersey

  • @mkeithharris Back in the war, neither side were fed hardly anything

  • you just pretend

  • Are the Confederate re-enactors from the South and the Union Re-enactors from the North?

  • in the actual war yes that was the case. but today for reenactors it doesnt matter. i know of a few confederate units in the northeast and several union units in the south. it all depends on which side you want to portray

  • @easycure007 No not allways. A lot of times we galvanize (play the other side). They have Union units in the South, and Confederate units in the North. Most of these Confederates are from the South though probably

  • @easycure007

No, not necessarily. People will often join a Company with ties to their ancestry. I joined a Confederate Company because I had friends already involved. I have 3 ancestors that fought for Pennsylvania Regiements. I discovered that is enlightening to learn something from another point(s) of view.

  • I dont get these Reenactments, how do you know when you get shot!?? Or are you guys firing some sort of plastic pellet?

  • No plastic pellets. Generally it's the choice of the reenactor, who may drop if he's out of "ammo" or tired, although it CAN be a planned event by random selection.

  • OHHHH, ok. thx!

  • @jimjamyou2be at the reenactments before they start you have to draw a paper from a hat and it will tell you if you die or live.

  • @number1gamer17

not necessarily so. sometimes you play be scenario, or when you are too hot/tired, out of rounds (which are simply tubes of black powder). When needed, you can actually "resurrect" as the army passes/retreats back over your dead little body!

  • @xXHearTBuRN14 Usually people choose to die if they either run out of ammo, or if there are a lot of guns going off in their direction, or if it's the turning point of the battle. It's assumed that the enactors will be "honest" and die when they are "shot"

  • @xXHearTBuRN14 At the ones I was in, the Captain gives each infantryman a certain amount of rounds. He might give one guy 20, another guy 12, and another guy 6. When you run out of rounds, it's pretty much your time to fall.

  • We climbed that hill over and over again, my unit is with the Georgia Volunteer Battalion. The battalion commander at the 2 min. mark has a good officer impression. From what i've read, it was common for soldiers to wear their accoutrements high, so they wouldn't hang low and get caught in brush, or ripping off. I wear mine the same. Hope to see bigger numbers at the 150th anniversary, the GVB will be there.

  • How many men are in that column?

  • @nc69th I'm taking a guess...perhaps 3-4,000?

  • by the end of the weekend I learned to hate that danged hill we had to march up and down. As for being over fed we was finally livin off of the fat of that northern land.

  • @rebelscott1865 The bugger was that we had to march up the hill after the battle. It would have been much nicer if we marched up it before the battle so we could go downhill when we were tired after the battle.

  • @OneSkiWonder AMEN BROTHER

  • Hell, it look's like Longstreet's whole corp was actually there. Of course it would only been Hood and McLaws on day 2.

Good job to whomever put it togethor.

  • hey im 8 im going 146 i think there going to have 40.000 there

  • I was at the 145th, CSA artillery. We were waiting in the artillery park about 50 yards downhill from the first camera position. It was quite impressive to see the poor bloody infantry march past. And march past. And march past. And then, for variety, some infantry marched past. On the drive back there from CA, I did some figuring, we must have had close to 50,000 pounds of black powder there. (est 2 lb/man minimum, plus about 60 pounds per gun, and there were 100 guns).

  • Did you know that 85% of 12 graders don't know anything about the Civil war

  • thats a shame

  • That is embarrassing!

  • Sad ain't it? Just the other day a college freshman asked me "The Confederates wore RED right, or they they wear the blue?"

  • That is sad.

  • I don't believe that.

  • I've only seen 4 regiments in this video of the ANV and I'm just stunned to see the numbers!! There's 10 Regiments in the organization. To think this isn't even Longstreet's Corp or the Carolina Legion or any other organizations. Man they had the numbers that weekend!!

  • outstanding im blown away by seeing so many confederates all in one place it makes me so proud to be a part of our Confederacy Keep flying the flag boys.DEO VINDICE!!

  • rump, The South deserves no blame for wanting to be free and to fight for it if necessary. They were no more traitors than Washington or Jefferson during the revolutionary fight for independence! If you witnessed (or could at least imagine) the hell and destruction that Lincoln's invasion of the South caused, you might not be so fit to defend the baboon.

"The contest is really for empire on the side of the North and for independence on that of the South." -London Times, November 7, 1861

  • its a fun one too i agree it is a hobby an honorable one

  • I dont care how long youve been reenacting!!! I want you to site every single book youve read it in. Now ive read it in company "aytch", but thats only one time. Kinda funny when u hear of routed units shedding knapsacks blanket roles and acoutrements. Hmmmm that would mean the vast magority of veteran units went in to action with all their gear on. But surely u can state for us where u read all these dozens of first hand accounts. Ill site my research as soon as u site urs.

  • the hell with you. Lincoln was a tyrant.

  • don't go dissing lincoln!!! he never did anything to you all he did was free the slaves. the confederates brought the war on themselves when they decided to break away. me being born on lincolns birthday and having a relation to him i have this feeling inside me that says that lincoln WAS NOT a tyrant

  • hahahah seems to me like every pro lincoln fanatic was related to him. deo vindice

  • well in all honesty brother. If only Lincoln stayed alive Johnson wouldn't have taken over and truly disrespected us with "re-construction" at least Lincoln looked upon us like brothers. but yeah

    DEo Vindice

  • Agreed

  • Thats a stupid thing to say. Lincoln wanted to preserve the union. Booth was the tyrant, because had Lincoln not have died the south wouldn't have went through such a harsh "reconstruction".

  • Comment removed

  • that's my BN at the 2 min mark

  • I always love it when someone tells another where his accutrements "should" be. When you are on the march you are going to find a comfortable position and that is where they will be placed and stay. This comes from someone who has been reenacting for 20 years, so I think that I can throw my opinions in the ring.

  • how many reenactors did you have?

  • For last year's 145th, it was an estimated 18,000 re-enactors, about 9,000 on each side, well, probably a little more on the southern end. The ANV that you see in the video, that organization fielded almost 2,000 rifles that weekend.

  • whole complany?

  • The officer with his accoutrements so high up...did his men play a dirty trick on him, cut a length from all the straps then stitch it back together? It looks very difficult to get at the haversack or the all important canteen

  • I gotta say I love the music!

  • I wore a Columbus Depot Jacket at Gettysburg because I'm from Arkansas and primarily do western theatre events. I can't afford to buy every type of coat made just to appease ass holes like you.

  • Decent job done by all, but-- the real fight in early July of '63 was going on around VIcksburg. A far more significant campaign in the long run than Lee in Pennsylvania. A campaign that "made the Valley Campaign of one Thomas Jonathan Jackson look like a picnic in the park with the Little Sisters of the Poor." (Edwin C. Bearss)

  • That officer is no reenactor. He is an impersonator of his favorite video drill sergeant. There was no need to yell if his men knew what they were doing.

  • They are my Band of Brothers, our unit is as good as any in the ANV. It's up to our C.O. what we carry into battle. Why the obsession with bedrolls/knapsacks? How about showing your gear? What N.C.unit are you with?Website? I'm in the 12th Georgia Company F Davis Guards 6thBnANV

  • Shelljacket is a Columbus depot type 2 in natural wooljean with infantry blue trim, forage cap with mcdowell brim in cadet grey, wool trousers with mule ear pockets in dark grey,Richmond musket all kept to dress parade standards.

  • Ft Monroe will be turn back over to the state of Virginia, I believe in 2011. Wouldn't it be a cool thing if a confederate re-enactment unit march in as the US Army leave in their grand ceremony?

  • I really regret not going to this one. The unit I was part of initially planned on going but then decided not to. I even took those days off from work months ahead of time. :( I was with the 41st VA. I want to go back into reenacting but my job requires me to work on weekends. Plus, the captain of our unit was way too pushy when it came to getting all of your equipment at once.

  • very good vid, thanks

  • I promise I will be at the 150th! That's one major thing I want to do in my life, fight in the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

  • im sure glad to have been a part of that

  • dont 4 get the southcarolenenons where in wit the verginans

  • you are correct. i am a south carolina skirmisher with the greggs brigade. with the north and south skirmish association...

    long live the confederacy

  • 5 stars for these nice pictures

  • Giving this video five full stars is too few. It should get ten. Or Eleven.

I've never seen so many Confederates. Great Job!

  • To think that was only the 1st Div. of the Confederates at this event! haha I was in the 3rd Division of Federal troops at this event, and my god, they never stopped coming! Yet then again, the federal forces didn't seem to stop either!
