  • love the movie, some nice photos on Ebay American graffiti photo , love the cars and back in the good old days,

  • A Cali cop I met once told me he was at a similar race and the car crashed (just like the movie) and a girl got out and started running (again like the movie) the cop thought she was really short, until he noticed that her legs were cut off below the knees...(she died on the way to the hospital) which should show how dangerous these type of races were

  • What is the song at the beginning?

  • @Tomasz0216 green onions by booker t&the mgs

  • is the music his title?

  • thats the trouble with gassers they flip

  • the scene after the crash was completely improved

  • Theres more to driving than the fastest car . Milner won due to his skill ! ! Ive been down that exact same road in Petaluma delivering to wineries many , many times.....A great movie...one of the best.....

  • Falfa whipped that ass!

  • God damned dangerous straight flat roads, downright perilous.

  • I was just at the video for Green Onions, and most of the conversation seemed to be about a video game the song is in.

I felt like a dinosaur mentioning that it was in this scene.

  • I was just on this road two days ago....A lot has changed....nothing but housing developments now.

  • This movie is DIRECTLY responsible for my addiction to drag racing!

  • Cool..

  • Last I heard the same man owns both cars.

  • whats the name of the song at the beginning?

  • @husky528 "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MG's

  • Thumbs up if YAHOO! News brought you here!! :))

  • I really enjoyed watching this movie as a teenager. I was in Ceres recently eating with some one who went to High School with George Lucas, and lives on Paradise road. He said that this scene was actually filmed in Patterson , but did not remember the name of the road it was on to make it look like it actually took place on Paradise Road.

    Jose F. Medeiros :-)

    San Jose, California

  • how did george lucas go from making normal, sane movies...to becoming the nerdiest douchebag in the history of the world?

  • Should of stuck with the Millenium Falcon =\

  • @halo5zero A refrigerator is a safer way of surviving a crash than inside a 1955 Chevy 150.

  • Milner's world was slowly coming apart. His friends were going off to college and he was getting older by the day. Now his faithful Deuce Coupe was about to be beaten. As fate would have it, the challenger to his crown as "fasted in the valley" crashed, leaving him still on top for another day. This was what it was all about for guys like Milner. Another night of fun on the "strip", driving the "fastest car in the valley." Life was still good for Milner but for him, time was running out. Sad...

  • @MAG315 Good perspective,

This was a comming of age story, with every other miain character facing thier own "demons" and Milner knew all along that his undefeated racing record was comming to an end. Falfas 55 chevy was the physical representation of the grim reaper comming for him...."black...with a skull from the rear view mirror"

Milner was lucky and "mature" enough (unlike toad) to realize his undefeated street racing rep was comming to an end.

  • @MAG315

Man is it possible they could make another

American Graffiti without messing it up?

  • They wrecked a 4 door with wheels spray painted silver. The actual 2 door with chrome wheels was up for auction in the 90's for $~25k; anybody with a complete Hemmings library from the period has the details. I read there that Pat Swayze's '57 went for about the same $ a few years earlier. I saw on TV some youngster bought the white '58 impala cheap a couple years after AG was filmed and now that's his rapidly appreciating net worth.

  • @crifoter69 It wasn't a four door, it was a two door.

  • Exactly.. Harrison Ford Never loses. :D

  • @lou1969reed the song is called "Green Onions" - considered a standard for that era.

  • That bel air woulda wiped him he spun and still caught him before crash

  • What is the name of of the song at the beginnin of the scene ?

  • awesome and cool ilove this movie

  • What song is that at the very beginning of this clip?

  • @SARSquid79 Booker T and the Mg's - Green Onions one of the best ever sounding records.

  • This song is absolutely perfect for this moment.

  • man that was a really close race i wish it didnt crash and that 55 is such a masterpeice

  • the look that laurie gives Harrsison F., b4 the race...I've seen that look. I know that look !

  • There is a blooper in this scene. When they are walking up the hill after the crash, Falfa has his hat in his hand, but in the next scene by the cars on the road, Milner hands falfa his hat!

  • I remember drag racing in my 1968 chevy nova. When at work while at lunch,I miss those day's...

  • And the un-answered question.........Why did Harrison flip?

  • George Lucas wished he had been Milner but he was a geek like "Toad".

  • name of song please?

  • @lezzunz4fR33 green onions by booker t

  • @EXTREME4YEARSTOCOME thank you so much!

  • @lezzunz4fR33 no prob

  • Nobody should mess with the classics man

  • amen brother

  • you little japanese and booboos got your shit give us white folk and workin ppl what we want too see not what u think we should see.. feel free to comment on my mcomment

  • FUCK A IMPORT remake . i say we either bump it up into the very early 70s with all american muslce or we do a redneck wersion of this shit .

  • Thank god there wasn't a wedding ring in that car.

  • The Chevy 55 vs the 32 Ford Deuce Coupe Hot Rod! Classic!

  • Reminds me of the days when my grandpa would take me out to the drag strip and we raced and beat all of those fucking import prices of shit

  • This strip is in Nor Cal

  • They should make a modern version with a Supra vs an RX7

  • @MrTylerdurden55 They did. It's called Fast and the Furious.

  • @joshhohensee Yeah but the Fast and the furious doesn't have much racing, its mostly about cops and smuggling, and drugs. This movie was all about cars, just wish the cars were Imports though.

  • @MrTylerdurden55 that would be a travesty this movie was made in the hot rod era remaking it with those two imports would ruin it

  • @ACHEESEDANISH00 well it doesn't have to be Called American Graffiti but just a similar movie with Imports instead of Hot Rods. With the guy having a 95 Supra instead of a 32 Ford and his rivial a 94 RX7 and add EVOs, STis, Integras, an NSX (maybe that could be the car the nerd borrows) and other cars like that.

  • @MrTylerdurden55 buzz off supra real classics are the best

  • @Tekkshockz Yeah but Supras are good too, what someone can't like different cars? Is that a crime?

  • Go Booker T!

  • john milner is so humble xD can't you believe the guy always asking for a race and he ge'ts it

  • Ford>Chevy

    Ford>Toyota

    Ford>all other car companies

  • @majorporpoise you do realize the ford deuce coupe is powered by a chevy motor right? Most likely a 327.

  • @majorporpoise MOPAR> Ford and all

  • @skatepunkzero I support all American business. I just prefer Ford's over MOPAR & GM.

As long as it's not an import I'm good.

  • @majorporpoise same here I actually drive a Chevy S10, just Mopars are my favorites, espeically the coronets and roadrunners.

  • @skatepunkzero I've always liked the Barracuda & the Challenger.

  • kilroy what happened was they filmed the flip with a stunt double junker. It was so juky they had to use the exploding can to flip it and they had to film it that way so you couldnt see the can. Afterwards milner and falfa ate hard boiled eggs.

  • When it went to TV, Milner was too heavy for kids so Henry Winkler got the gig, all hale the Fonz

  • I hadn't noticed this before, but look at the cars how they start out, and the direction they are going.55 on the right with driver to the inside. When the car runs into ditch it flips over onto passengers side, By the way they start out it can't flip onto the passenger side, It would only flip towards driver side.

  • I say this everytime, but why is the exhaust coming out of Milners 32 didn't he remove the Header Plugs?

  • @skatepunkzero open headers makes the car go abit quicker as the exhaust gasses dont get restricted, like they do on a full exhaust system

  • @toneoffuel I know what open Headers do! What I said was if he has open headers, why is exhaust coming out of his mufflers?

  • @skatepunkzero because he isn't running open headers. while it looks like Milner just has headers but they re-routed the exhaust underneath the car out to the bacl. check out this video, muCFwfTKPEY, and you can see it at the 0:30 mark.

  • @JesusFrankenstein but he was suspose to be for the movie. I figured they re-routed the exhaust under the car, though before in at the Gas Station Milner took the header plugs off to run open header.

  • Hi, what's the name of this song and from who?! thank you

  • @Lolinha2348

Green Onions by Booker T and the MGs

  • i agree with hotrodgirl86....

  • This is my favorite scene of the whole movie.

  • gives me chills every time i hear green onions!

  • One of my all time favourite films, the cars, the music, man i was born in the wrong era.

  • @Escorticus same here

  • Those chevys burn well dont they.

  • @atlast17 Yeah, Burn the tires off. lol.

  • "You got he bitchn'ess car in the Valley, you'll always be number one John, you're the greatest!"

    Ya gotta love the Toad!

  • I guess Bob Falfa's "pink slip" isn't worth a whole lot after the crash.

  • @starguy2718 Thats how James Taylor and Wilson got it for so cheap a few years later. They put a 454 in it, with large custom headers. They made it a great car.

  • @starguy2718 thats how James Taylor and Denis Wilson got it for so cheap

  • @starguy2718 A few years ago in one of the Model car groups on yahoo, somebody did a diorama with Falfa's 55 sitting beside a house 4sale after the race, it was very well done to.

  • @starguy2718 not for pink's for respect and bragging rights. dont mess with the best lol

  • I was 6 when I first saw this in the local drive-in (an almost extinct institution anymore) after it came out. That should roughly tell you how old I am...

  • what an idiot howd he crash?

  • @carbonfootprintmyass he couldnt control the power. feel me dawg?

  • @carbonfootprintmyass

Falfa was a moron. He skidded for no apparent reason and drove off the road. What a Putz.

  • @carbonfootprintmyass Supposedly it's supposed to have happened from a blowout of the right rear tire. There's another scene, I can't remember now if it's the burnout next to Toad in Bollander's `58 or the first race with Milner but you see sparks come from that tire. That would of course mean it was worn down to the steel belt...I don't know if they had steel belted tires in `62 but the film was released in `73.

  • @Illogicalcaptain Sorry my mistake, I meant left rear.

  • @Illogicalcaptain I just noticed, you see it spark in this race too. It does it in both of them.

  • @Illogicalcaptain Same thing happened to me in my Mercury, sketchy...

  • Look closely after the 55 flips on it's top. As Milner is helping Falfa and they walk around the car, you will notice an automatic in the car. Trans pan and looks like a piece of channel welded from frame rail to frame rail as the crossmember.

  • @ILoveLauriePartridge

Definitely an automatic. The actual car had a four speed but this one was a turbo hydramatic. Good eye.

  • @ScottysSpeedShop Thus, being Russian, he wil never understand Americana in regard to the male and his car. He can keep his perception, we're quite happy with ours!

  • @ScottysSpeedShop guess they have better in Russia, hahahaha

  • @ScottysSpeedShop my god, what is wrong with u? this is the best movie ever made!

  • @ScottysSpeedShop i agree with the ruski.

  • @madamerotten Not too good? But the only thing in the USSR then were Fiat 128's and worse. What could you want?

  • @IExposeMormonism

Я имел в виду фильм, а не автомобилей.

  • @madamerotten I'm going to have to wait for a translation on that. In the meantime I'd like to paraphrase a great philosopher and linguist, Mark Twain, quoting Jim to Huck::"Now Huck, do a cat talk like a cow or a cow like a cat what do it do...It's natural and right for em to speak so..Is a cat a man? so it makes no sense fo a cat to try and speak like a man..Is a Frenchman a man? So why can't a Frenchman speak like man like everyone else" Or in your case A Ruskie.

  • @IExposeMormonism Why not just use the Google translation engine?

  • Comment removed

  • @madamerotten I didn't know of it. I'll check it out...But I want a Personal translation; come on

  • @IExposeMormonism trying to send you a friend invite but cannot. I enjoy the work you do so far as i have read.

  • I think this is the best scene in the whole movie, from the sounds of "Green Onions" playing in the background, the rumble of the engines at :24 to the '55 Chevy's burn out, yikes gives me goose bumps. I read that they had trouble filming this scene because they couldn't get the crash car to roll over. Adobe Rd looks different today than it did then, there is a golf course on one side and houses were build on the other, a couple of stop signs too.

  • Okay Toad, we're take 'em all! Damn straight we'll take 'em all! Imports are history, American Muscle is FOREVER!!!!

  • Genius filmmaking. By building up John Milner's rep by word of mouth only, while showing his nemesis Bob Falfa as he demonstrates the overwhelming power of his car on several occasions, as a viewer of this movie, one has absolutely no idea who is actually going to win this race. The viewer asks themselves, "How is this going to end? I'm feeling genuine anxiety."

    fuk it, i'm tripping lol

  • I drove on that street couples of times, I still even cruise on mchenry rd every summer. I love those true muscle cars. Not those import whatever u guys call them. I was always jealous of my dad. He went cruise there back in his time and races on it. But I went there but couldn't race cuz theres so many of police watching everywhere. We pretty much ruin it with those import and those gang thing w guns n fighting. stupid. Thanks a lot.

  • "He had me man, he was pulling away from me just before he crashed" MILNER!, why the hell did you say that? It's not true at all, watch the video closely. I`ve never understood why he said that...

Ohhhhhhhhh, that was beautiful John, just beautiful...

    True dat Toad

  • @LudaMusser He said it 'cause he sick of being the top dog that every new set of wheels in town wants to try and beat. The junkyard scene where he's telling Carol about the other guy who was fastest in the valley that died racing and then seeing Falfa wreck the '55 has Milner all nerved up. If it was true that Falfa was taking him then John wouldn't have to always be defending the title as fastest guy around. he was looking for a way out. Toad builds up his esteem again and he reclaims his cool.

  • how the name of the song ??? i will have this song ???

  • @4everEddie Green Onions.

  • @unleavenedbread340 Booker T & the MG's

  • @4everEddie The tune is "Green Onions" by Booker T & the MGs. from the 1950s It's on Youtube. Great bit of music. Don't play it on your car stereo if there's cops around, you'll speed and get fined...!!

  • @650bigal Sorry, it was recorded in 1962. (Wikipedia) should've checked before I posted.

  • @650bigal thanks

  • is it me or did they use a different 55 for this scene? the rims look different?

  • @eze14213 they used a diffrent 55 that didnt have chrome smoothies

  • I don't know if someone have ever notice this details, but all customised cars in this movie have the same rims

  • @chargerrt426hemi those were popular

  • no seat belts..those two would have had broken necks

  • you can get your friends cars and yours all together.. and cruise the speed limit... still making a boatload o noise...and roll into the gas station...the burger joint...the car wash..and a roller rink... all while being safe from the police interference because no one was speeding and no one made a scene frying tires. Police don't write tickets to law abiding citizens last I checked..... not sure though... might be different in Kitchener..... lol

  • Even though the 10 minute chace in Bullet is a classic, this race will always be the best their ever was and ever ill be..... I'd give almost everything I own for those two cars.....

  • @MrBurlingtonNorthern ....almost??!!!..... you sure need to get your priorities in gear.. :) lol I also have a black Chevy in the driveway....needs new tires though....;)

  • @guitargup Yeah almost, my grandfathers Railroad Lantern has to stay, and my dum ass dog come to think of it lol....... so yeah, Almost ;-)

We did that back inthe day with all our cars, pull um the parking lot we hung out at, all in a diagnal ffacing r2 rows, opened the hoods and you wouldn;t believe the people who would walk over and look um over, it was a great times..

  • @MrBurlingtonNorthern lol ha ha God bless. I bet it was soo neat, yeah there is nothing cooler to me than good cars, good people, and good food! :) Peace be with you Mr. Burlington Northern :)

  • just rebuilt a 57 chevy and working on a 69 chevelle i think i found my next project car a 32 coupe :)

  • Hot rod revival is coming to a town near you. Blue collar guys building real rods not the trailer queen shit! Get with it! True Americana!

  • harrison ford in 55 chevy.........

  • The story is set in MODESTO ca. I grew up a few hours trip away from here. This is the real deal. Lucas and Howard did a good job.

  • I saw shit like this unfold outside Tucson. 1983. 21 years after the American Graffiti placement. 12 second cars, paint on the road, very, very east side of town, maybe 10 second cars here and there. Very stupid.

  • Right when u heard Toad say "Ok, you guys ready" i right away knew that this race was gonna b a classic

  • Where the '55 rolled off of Frates Rd. in Petaluma is now a golf course.

  • "You'll always be number one John, you're the greatest"

"Okay Toad, we'll take them all, we'll take them all"

    John Milner RIP

  • This scene reminds me of my brother and I when we use to stock race. We were snot nosed teenagers whupping on 30 year old mechanics by profession. We were a two man team. My Bro was my pit crew at age 16 and I was the driver at age 20. I Bro had faith and he always motivated me to win. This scene says it all. We will take em all.

Romp on it 98 racing 1969 Camaro with a 327. McAllen, Texas

  • green onions sounds SO GOOD in this movie!

  • I'd pick Bob Falfa and his 55 Chevy to beat Hans Solo and the Millenium Falcon any day of the week.

  • @BullRonin yeah man.. he just hit hyperdrive too,.. and was rollin out on them turkeys...lol

  • epic fail for harrison ford

  • make another and leave the rice burners out of it!!!!!!!

  • bitcheness car in the Valley!

  • whats the name of the song at the begining

  • @charger1970and68 Green Onions by Booker T. and the MG's

  • @charger1970and68 The song is "Green Onions"

  • @SteveTheBull and...What a SONG it IS!!!! lite the fires and fry the tires!

  • EVERY SINGLE TIME I WATCH THIS THE HAIR STANDS UP ON THE BACK OF MY NECK... like a shot of pure adrenaline... lining up next to some trash-talkin' dude.. revvin' that V8... droppin' the clutch and unleashing all that horsepower.. PURE BEAUTY.

  • for those that dont understand the love for V8 HORSEPOWER. watch this.

  • This is based on something that actually happened to George Lucas as a teenager -I don't know if it was in a drag race but he did get into a wreck that nearly killed him.

  • American Classic!!

  • i have been watching this since i was a little kid... i am 21 now and it is still my favorite movie.. i grew up tryin to have the fastest car in the area...

there is a very mean 55 chevy lookin for you....

what color is that? a cross between piss yellow and puke green aint it?

  • One of the best movies of the '70's and one of my favorites. It was so cool to be around back in the day..

  • I've seen this movie a thousand times ... I never get tired of it !!

Where were you in 62 ?

  • "We'll take 'em all" as the sun comes up behind the coupe. Makes the hair on my neck stand up every time.

  • jdjd3640,.........it is called green onions,....by booker t & the mg's

  • "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs

  • what's the name of the song in the beginig of the clip

  • "Green Onions" by Booker T and the MGs

  • Green Onions..By Booker T and the MGs
