@socillizt4life Thanks a lot. I need to check this out, too. Well, well, I guess my old broken wardrobe must fulfill its duty a bit little longer with all the recommendations I've got.
Have you, by any chance, read Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi? It's an autobiographical graphic novel about her childhood and teenage in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. It's tragic and insightful but also fun.
@socillizt4life Jesus, no. I haven't read it either. It seems that I use my money rather for Superman and French comics than for Batman. But I know The Return of Bruce Wayne connects directly with his demise in Final Crisis.
@DrGull1888 Yeah, that's where I'm a bit confused!Because I missed out on the Final crisis run I didn't even relize Batman had been 'killed off' in that story-arc,yet at the same time he was meant to have been killed off in the helicopter explosion at the end of R.I.P.Your right though 'The return of Bruce Wayne' I believe is the aftermath of him being sent back in time(not killed) in the final crisis 'arc.Confusing...lol.
@socillizt4life Batman gets roasted by Darkseid's Omega Beam and since the dark god (or was it the retarded cosmic vampire?!?) threatens to destroy the world, they sent Batman's remains and several tokens of Earth's superheros into space so that someone might learn about Earth's final crisis. In a Star Trek III twist the rocket with Batman's remains flies back in time and resurrects the Dark Knight.
Do you read much 2000AD stuff?!They were the comics I grew up on mainly, still got stacks of them in my attic. The book 'cradlegrave' I mentioned was a 2000AD release. It was really good,I've never read anything quite like it to be honest.I just read it last night.A good horror/estate life GN.What was your take on Final Crisis BTW?
@socillizt4life Well, I read Judge Dredd but my collection is far from being completed. I like the rather satirical approach to Dredd's world with all those absurd characters populating Big Meg and the Cursed Earth.
@DrGull1888 One of the things I liked about the 2000ad comics,is you have crazy over the top stuff & then the next story would be a really realistic story with the total opossite of 'dredd, with black & white crime, horror & just everyday style British stories. Some of them were gr8 others pretty poor but it's not hard too see how some of the most acclaimed comic writers started off on 2000ad.Speaking of 1such guy,I just read neonomicon & this is 'Moore back 2 his best after the dissapointing 1969!
@socillizt4life First I thought they were all satirical but after reading Judge Dredd: America I became aware I was wrong. Moore wrote ABC Warriors and Ennis a lot of stuff, too. Hey, I made a Judge Dredd Top 10 list three years ago. I had to change the music but perhaps you might find it interesting.
@DrGull1888 Yeah David Loyd & I think Grant Morrisson started thier craft at 2000ad(I'm not 100% sure about 'Morrisson)but MOST of the top U.K writers & artists did start at 2000ad.After reading the 2nd trade of Batman & Robin reborn & The return of Bruce Wayne trades in one sitting,it all makes sense now.All the dots add up in a way only 'Morrisson at his best can pull off!.I'm going 2 upload a vid' on my collection.Ill let u know when it's up.It'll have my Bats' top10 & as much else as I can.
@DrGull1888 Yeah Ill check out your Dredd list.BTW as good as Neonomicon is & it is one of his best IMO it's one fucked up story even for Moore',you were right it's his take on what the Lovecraft mythos really was & boy is it good!
@socillizt4life By the way, I was kissed by a muse and therefore I'm gonna post videos again in March, next week to be exact. My next one will be again a warship video again but the following ones will be comic book top 10 lists. So, stay tuned.
@DrGull1888 Yeah neonomicon is so good it would be near the top of my 'current'(on a certain day I would say one book is better than the other then change my mind on a diffrent day)top 10 GNs ever!the artwork by Jacen Burrows deserves as much acclaim as the writing,it's the best art I've seen for along time.'TURF' would be in my current top 10 aswell, along with a history of violence,I forgot how good a GN it was,it's made me want to see the film that came out a few years back! All must haves IMO!
This weekend I searched my comic book vault and found Batman:Contagion, Batman:Legacy and Batman: Bane of the Demon. Have you read them? They're about Ras al Ghoul unleashing a plague on Gotham and Bane courting Talia. I see a similarity to the coming movie. And those three set the stage for Cataclysm and No Man's Land.
I meant 'Batman & son' not 'death in the family' in my last post,After Batman R.I.P I really liked 'Morrissons take on 'Grayson & Damian as Batman & Robin reborn-vol1(Damian's the best Robin ever in this book IMO,A total badass!which he would be given his upbringing),I just picked up the 2nd trade of his B&R'reborn run(Robin vs Batman)last week but I've had too much new stuff I wanted to read 1st,so I've not read it yet,I haven't even read neonomicon yet but that's next on my must read list!
@socillizt4life I must check out Batman and Son but I fear my next shopping frenzy will be in March.
If you want to read a good Robin story try "A Lonely Place of Dying". It's about Tim Drake's first appearance as Robin and batman tackling Jason Todd's death. The villain is Two-Face and the narrative is pretty good, too. The artwork didn't age well and the end revealing the real puppet master pulling the strings is a bit retarded but over all a good Robin comic.
@DrGull1888 ;Yeah,I've not came across it yet.I've always preffered the dark knight flying solo but I love a good two-face story(long halloween/Dark victory story-arc is one of my favourite bat' stories).I finaly built up to reading 'Millers/'Lees all star Batman & Robin and though the writing is poor next2 'Millers best I thought his sin city like take on Batman was more realistic,in real life he would be an utter phsyco! It's a pity there hasn't been a sequal,it was only the start of a story!
@socillizt4life Yeah, that is also what I've heard. Batman acts like a psycho and treats the people around him like shit.
I didn't like Long Halloween that much but liked Dark Victory much better. Good Two-Face stories are Batman: Faces by Matt Wagner and Batman Annual 1990 by Steve Dillon. The latter one is an origin story but pretty dark and disturbing.
@DrGull1888 Well I love my Batman stories dark & disturbing,Im just a sick fuck like that!lol.Saying that one of my top five Bat writers of this gen' IMO is Paul Dini,I love how he brings back the fun and somtimes staight up silly(Harley' hanging Batman upside down over piranahs so thier teeth would look like smiles)Mad love is actualy my favourite origin story in the Bat' universe,it makes utter sense so in that way it's realistic but with silly parts that reminds you of the Adam West Batman.
@socillizt4life Yeah, indeed, Dini is great. He also collaborated with Alex Ross on Batman: War on Crime, Superman: Peace on Earth, Wonder Woman: This and That. He also wrote a damn good Superman/Batman World's Finest comic. And finally he scripted Arkham City. I toy with the idea of buying the graphic novel. Have you read it?
@DrGull1888 I haven't read Batman Arkham City yet,I was planning on having a playthrough of the game first, somebody told me they had basicaly the same story.I'm not sure if that's true but I know 'Dini had alot to do with the 1st game Arkham Asylum, which is one of the reasons it was so awesome & true to the whole Batman mythos.I liked Sam Kieths Arkham Asylum:Madness,Batmans not in it,it is 24 hours in the shoes of a nurse that works thier while the Joker & others bring the place to its knees.
@DrGull1888 I haven't read faces yet,I've had it in my palms a few times but I've let it slip for other titles but I'm definatley going to seek it out again!I know you don't rate long halloween that highly but in your opinion is it better than the LH/Dark victory origin of Two face?
@socillizt4life Well, Faces is no Two-Face origin story, it is just a Two-Face story - very dark and depressing as is the character. In a nutshell, he tries to create a nation of circus freaks by murdering and blackmailing Gotham's High Society.
Dark Victory is definitely better than Long Halloween but if you want to read a better Two-Face origin story I must again reference to Batman Annual 1990. It's available as second-hand single issue or in the Two-Face/Riddler paperback from 1995.
@DrGull1888 lol, that's what I meant to ask about, the Annual 1990 not Faces.I'll have to get both of them.I liked the way they handled the transformation from 'Dent into Two Face in the last Batman film.I still prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight though.I'm looking forward to the 3rd in the trilogy, should be good going by 'Nolans first two installments.I'm trying to avoid as much info on the film as possible so it'll be full of surprises.
Another Gr8 list m8.'Hellblazer' is probably my favourite series after Alan Moores run on 'SWAMP THING',which 'Constantine also plays a big part in.HELLBLAZER=BADASS!!
@socillizt4life Well hello, long time no see. Thanks a lot for your compliments. It's been a while I since I bought my last Hellblazer comic. It was The Laughing Magician. At the moment I'm reading Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus.
@DrGull1888 Yeah, hopes all good with you,I just went on a big Graphic Novel spree the other day,I filled in the gaps in my Hellboy collection, I now have all the series as far as I know, still haven't come across that Batman/Hellboy crossover you informed me about though;(,I got a few Batman books aswell, also came across a brand new Alan Moore book I never even knew about called, get this 'Neonomicon'lol,I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it looks as mad as the name suggests!
@socillizt4life Yeah, thank you. I hope you are fine, too. They offer the Hellboy/Batman/Starman crossover second-hand on amazon. I've heard only good things about Neonomicon but I haven't read it yet. As far as I understand, it's Moore's take on Lovecraft. The last thing by Moore I read was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century 1969. It was rather strange and bizarre. Certainly not as good as the preceding Century 1910.
@DrGull1888 ;Yeah I tottaly agree,'century 1969 just felt out of place in the league universe to me,especially the art, minas acid trip for example & it certainly wasn't up to 1910,my favourite book in the league' series, high praise because I thought the original part1 & 2 were amazing, especially part 2,mainly for what 'Moore done with 'Hyde.I'll let you know what I thought of neonomicon when I finish it,I got a couple of Preacher books I was missing 2day,so thats me got all 9volumes now.
@socillizt4life I also liked 1910 better than Black Dossier. In my opinion Black Dossier is too overloaded with those additional stories while the chase for the Black Dossier was too short. I also had my problems with Prospero's monologue at the end.
1910 on the other hand connected closer to the first two books. You have again this steam punk setting and I really liked all those Bert Brecht/Kurt Weil characters like Mack the Knife, Pirate Jenny and so on.
@DrGull1888 I also got a GR8 book called 'TURF' by Jonathan Ross & art by Tommy Lee Edwards,It's got gangters, vampires, & space travel & it really is worth picking up!I thought it might have been a cash in jod because if you don't knoe who Jonathan Ross is,he's the biggest paid U.K presenter & has never wrote anything in his life too do with comics but boy was I wrong!I also got 'a history of violance' & the re-release of 'the crow' which I always loved but I lost my originals of them both.
@socillizt4life Haven't read Turf either but the synopsis reads promising. The last things I've read were Supergods by Mark Millar. It's about superheros causing the end of the world. Pretty fun. Then I got a series of comics called The Flying Tigers. It's about a WWII air squadron stationed in China. It's very well drawn. And I got President Lex, The World's Finest DC Archive and Batman: Through the Looking Glass. The last one has not very good artwork and a predictable story.
@DrGull1888 I also got a graphic novel called Cradlegrave 2day.I just loved the sound of the synopsis & the art looked pretty cool,it's about council estate life and the real horrors that go along with the poverty in they estates, mixed with some sort of supernatural horror, coming from that kind of estate myself, the speech & the feel of the place looks really authentic,so should be good!
@DrGull1888 To be honest I didn't catch much of this run at all.I was buying more independent stuff at the time but I loved Grant Morrisons run on Batman pretty much straight after final crisis,'death in the family''return of ras al gul','the black glove' & Batman R.I.P.I didn't rate them when I 1st read them but the more I read them the more I enjoyed them.I find that alot with 'Morrissons work.I'd love to know what u thought of Final Crisis. Is it worth me checking out or was it all hype?
@socillizt4life Yeah, I don't know about Final Crisis. You have excellently written parts and god awful parts. There is a story arc where Dan Turpin is possessed by Darkseid and in an inner monologue he is struggling for his body and soul. That was awesome. And we we have Batman using a gun. Hmmm. We have the New Gods of Apokolips inaugurating the end of the world which was awesome and we have Superman fighting a cosmic vampire. Hmmm.
This needs to be updated!!! Milligans run sofar has mostly been fantastic!!! That said I cant forgive him for what he done to poor Angie Spatchcock!!!
@thrashermario The only way I would ever want another film with the title 'Constantine' in it would be with Daniel Craig in the lead part. I'd even take Gordon Ramsay over old deadfish Keanu Reeves.
@DrGull1888 Well the idea of the Hell's Kitchen chef donning the old trenchcoat isn't as wild as some of the other ideas floating around out there, like the idea of Constantine heading a Justice League offshoot team :-{ crazy sounding idea I know but current Hellblazer writer Peter Milligan is writing it come September.
@cha5 Well, to be fair Constantine makes an appearance in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and also in the JLU episode "Divided We Fall" although in the latter one he only stands in a crowd of superheroes. Oh, and he is in the Knightfall-spoof "Batman: Mitefall". So, the idea of Constantine appearing outside the Hellblazer universe isn't that new. But yes I agree, Constantine leading a team of superheroes is a bit absurd
@DrGull1888 True enough, I don't really have any problem with him appearing in the DC universe, after all some of his most memorable stories outside of Hellblazer had him interacting with Swamp Thing,
The Sandman, peeing on The Phantom Stranger's shoes :D and other characters. I'm just a little afraid with this Flashpoint reboot storyline that's affecting all the major and minor DC characters that they might do something halfassed like give Conjob a Green Lantern ring or worse.
@cha5 Yeah, giving Constantine a Green Lantern ring or worse. I fear the day when John Constantine is locking horns with Darkseid and dear old Granny Goodness. To be true I haven't read Flashpoint but I read in the net it's a sort of alternate timeline. Actually I can get over a crappy elseworlds story pretty well, even when this story contains John Constantine.
"The witch known as The Enchantress has gone mad, unleashing forces that not even the combined powers of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg can stop. And if those heroes can't handle the job, who will stand against this mystical madness? Shade the Changing Man, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Zatanna and John Constantine may be our only hope- but how can we put our trust in beings whose very presence makes ordinary people break out in a cold sweat?" DC's promo for 'Justice League Dark'
(which is a must read book, if you want an essential annotated reference guide to the world of TLOEG; Black Dossier. As are all of Nevins books concerning TLOEG)
Well according to Moore as regards Prospero's presence
"It was purely meant as a triumphal statement on behalf of the world of fiction. I was using Prospero as a spokesperson for my ideas concerning fiction and how important that world is, how dependent we are on it, how it can hardly be regarded as fictional at all when it has such far-reaching effects on the nonfictional physical world" At least that's Moore's explanation to Jess Nevins in Nevin's book 'Impossible Territories'.
@happentodie I'm not so sure with "Rake at the Gates of Hell". Is it the one with the composite hooligan monster? That was a neat idea. Joyride was fun. The best thing is the grandma who emits joy like Buddha himself.
@DrGull1888 rakes is the one where john has to deal with satan again when saten works out a way to beat the triumvirate problem he has with the other 2 lords of hell,he comes for johns soul, plus theres a riot in brixton ,joyride was a great story ,i like jamie delano stuff
@happentodie Still not sure about "Rakes". Does John pit the three rulers of Hell against each other to survive his cancer? Or do I confuse this with Dangerous Habits? If so, I fear I haven't read Rakes at the Gates of Hell yet.
Yup, Jamie Delano is great but I only owe some Hellblazer stuff by him and a Batman/Man-Bat comic he did with John Bolton. What do you think of Steve Dillon's art work?
@DrGull1888 youre thinking of "habits" ,rakes is after that its the last work that dillon and ennis did ,its very rare in europe ,and is easily the hardest graphic novel to aquire,i like dillons artwork and coupled with master writer ennis they did some of hellblazers finest pieces, instantly recogniseable,i finally got my copy of rakes 2 days ago so im happy again!!
@happentodie Aw fuck! Then Rakes is missing in my collection. A few years ago the paper shop in our main train station sold many Hellblazer paperbacks from the early nineties including Tainted Love and Habits dirt cheap. This is where I got the headstone of my collection. Have you read Preacher by Ennis and Dillon?
@DrGull1888 i had to order mine from the u.s ,well rakes anyway .I read preacher and it was very good ,i am halfway thru "the boys " ennis /dillon ,excellent !! also you really should try alan moores "swamp thing" where john makes his first appearance ,its utterly brilliant ,and "sandman "neil gaiman is amazing ,you see "lady joanna constantine " johns great gran ,she so cool ,
@happentodie Preacher is one of my all time favourites. I reread it from time to time. The Boys is also great but I find after reading "The Self-Preservation Society" the constant humping and brutality a bit exhausting. Nevertheless the origin story of the female is brilliant. Who would have thought that s.o. can cross Asterix with Alien?
Lady Constantine was in Fables & Reflections. That was a good one. I also liked the Hellblazer special where Lady Constantine struggles for Pandora's Box.
@happentodie fables was reasonably new ,i read sandman and was massively impressed ,but had to say swamp thing was easily my favourite its typical alan moore (genius) i always thought that john in the early days looked like "sting" lol he certainly does in swamp thing
@happentodie Swamp Thing by Moore was a great series but it's not among my faves. My favourites by Moore are Watchmen, Top 10 and From Hell. My favourite Sandman books are Seasons of Mist and Doll' s House.
You are right about Sting. I heard from several sides that Sting was the role model for John Constantine.
@DrGull1888 if you see the cover of rakes of hell ,the similarity is massive ,ive always seen john as different to sting and it slightly annoyed me that he looked like him so much ,i liked watchman and from hell ,last thing i bought was league of extrordinary gentleman ,fantastic
@happentodie Yup, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is great. The funny thing is that even the most minor character has a literaric origin. Have you also read The Black Dossier? I found it a bit cluttered with a not so clear story structure. Last year Moore began a new sequel named The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 1910. That was nice again with a lot of hints towards Berthold Brecht and Kurt Weil.
@DrGull1888 I really liked parts of The Black Dossier especially the 3-D sequence (which was mindblowing) and some of the sendups of Orwell's 1984 and some of the obscure British literary characters, although IMHO Moore spent just maybe a bit too much time in Black Dossier making James Bond out to be a cunt and not enough time on a more clear and concise storyline. I agree that TLOEG 1910 Century was far enjoyable and am really looking forward to the next Century issue set in the late 1960s.
@cha5 Yeah, I liked the Big Brother, Harry Lime, Hugo Drummond, Emma Peel and James Bond part too. The 3D effect was also a nice idea but somehow I have my problems with Prospero's monnologue. I mean wtf? Moore tried hard to make us believe that literaric figures are real and then Prospero pops up and says that those characters are immaginary. I think this damages the whole premise of the world of LoEG.
Too bad that the release of LoEG 1969 has been postponed several times.
nice. I've never read any hellblazer and been looking into what to buy for my first copy. After what I read I was torn between haunted and dangerous habits. Reckon I'll go for dangerous habits now after seeing your list.
One last thing for now my friend, you put me onto MAUZ which was powerfull, heartbreaking & ambitious,A book with all the same qualities is PALASTINE & the follow up 'Footnotes from GAZA'by Joe Sacco. It's his story about the Israely/Palastine conflict written while he was a journalist in the region.Thier well worth picking up.It's won countless awards for good reason like Mauz,it shows you the worst & best in human nature.IT'S LIKE A PRE-CAMERA JOURNALISTIC DOCUMENTARY.Triple A books!

@DrGull1888 I haven't read faces yet,I've had it in my palms a few times but I've let it slip for other titles but I'm definatley going to seek it out again!I know you don't rate long halloween that highly but in your opinion is it better than the LH/Dark victory origin of Two face?
socillizt4life 1 week ago
@socillizt4life Well, Faces is no Two-Face origin story, it is just a Two-Face story - very dark and depressing as is the character. In a nutshell, he tries to create a nation of circus freaks by murdering and blackmailing Gotham's High Society.
Dark Victory is definitely better than Long Halloween but if you want to read a better Two-Face origin story I must again reference to Batman Annual 1990. It's available as second-hand single issue or in the Two-Face/Riddler paperback from 1995.
DrGull1888 6 days ago
@DrGull1888 lol, that's what I meant to ask about, the Annual 1990 not Faces.I'll have to get both of them.I liked the way they handled the transformation from 'Dent into Two Face in the last Batman film.I still prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight though.I'm looking forward to the 3rd in the trilogy, should be good going by 'Nolans first two installments.I'm trying to avoid as much info on the film as possible so it'll be full of surprises.

Another Gr8 list m8.'Hellblazer' is probably my favourite series after Alan Moores run on 'SWAMP THING',which 'Constantine also plays a big part in.HELLBLAZER=BADASS!!
socillizt4life 2 weeks ago
@socillizt4life Well hello, long time no see. Thanks a lot for your compliments. It's been a while I since I bought my last Hellblazer comic. It was The Laughing Magician. At the moment I'm reading Jack Kirby's Fourth World Omnibus.
DrGull1888 2 weeks ago
@DrGull1888 Yeah, hopes all good with you,I just went on a big Graphic Novel spree the other day,I filled in the gaps in my Hellboy collection, I now have all the series as far as I know, still haven't come across that Batman/Hellboy crossover you informed me about though;(,I got a few Batman books aswell, also came across a brand new Alan Moore book I never even knew about called, get this 'Neonomicon'lol,I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it looks as mad as the name suggests!
socillizt4life 2 weeks ago
@socillizt4life Yeah, thank you. I hope you are fine, too. They offer the Hellboy/Batman/Starman crossover second-hand on amazon. I've heard only good things about Neonomicon but I haven't read it yet. As far as I understand, it's Moore's take on Lovecraft. The last thing by Moore I read was League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century 1969. It was rather strange and bizarre. Certainly not as good as the preceding Century 1910.
DrGull1888 2 weeks ago
@DrGull1888 ;Yeah I tottaly agree,'century 1969 just felt out of place in the league universe to me,especially the art, minas acid trip for example & it certainly wasn't up to 1910,my favourite book in the league' series, high praise because I thought the original part1 & 2 were amazing, especially part 2,mainly for what 'Moore done with 'Hyde.I'll let you know what I thought of neonomicon when I finish it,I got a couple of Preacher books I was missing 2day,so thats me got all 9volumes now.
socillizt4life 2 weeks ago
@socillizt4life I also liked 1910 better than Black Dossier. In my opinion Black Dossier is too overloaded with those additional stories while the chase for the Black Dossier was too short. I also had my problems with Prospero's monologue at the end.
1910 on the other hand connected closer to the first two books. You have again this steam punk setting and I really liked all those Bert Brecht/Kurt Weil characters like Mack the Knife, Pirate Jenny and so on.
DrGull1888 2 weeks ago
@DrGull1888 I also got a GR8 book called 'TURF' by Jonathan Ross & art by Tommy Lee Edwards,It's got gangters, vampires, & space travel & it really is worth picking up!I thought it might have been a cash in jod because if you don't knoe who Jonathan Ross is,he's the biggest paid U.K presenter & has never wrote anything in his life too do with comics but boy was I wrong!I also got 'a history of violance' & the re-release of 'the crow' which I always loved but I lost my originals of them both.
socillizt4life 2 weeks ago
@socillizt4life Haven't read Turf either but the synopsis reads promising. The last things I've read were Supergods by Mark Millar. It's about superheros causing the end of the world. Pretty fun. Then I got a series of comics called The Flying Tigers. It's about a WWII air squadron stationed in China. It's very well drawn. And I got President Lex, The World's Finest DC Archive and Batman: Through the Looking Glass. The last one has not very good artwork and a predictable story.
DrGull1888 2 weeks ago
@DrGull1888 I also got a graphic novel called Cradlegrave 2day.I just loved the sound of the synopsis & the art looked pretty cool,it's about council estate life and the real horrors that go along with the poverty in they estates, mixed with some sort of supernatural horror, coming from that kind of estate myself, the speech & the feel of the place looks really authentic,so should be good!

@socillizt4life Hey, what do you think of "Final Crisis"?
DrGull1888 2 weeks ago
@DrGull1888 To be honest I didn't catch much of this run at all.I was buying more independent stuff at the time but I loved Grant Morrisons run on Batman pretty much straight after final crisis,'death in the family''return of ras al gul','the black glove' & Batman R.I.P.I didn't rate them when I 1st read them but the more I read them the more I enjoyed them.I find that alot with 'Morrissons work.I'd love to know what u thought of Final Crisis. Is it worth me checking out or was it all hype?
socillizt4life 2 weeks ago
@socillizt4life Yeah, I don't know about Final Crisis. You have excellently written parts and god awful parts. There is a story arc where Dan Turpin is possessed by Darkseid and in an inner monologue he is struggling for his body and soul. That was awesome. And we we have Batman using a gun. Hmmm. We have the New Gods of Apokolips inaugurating the end of the world which was awesome and we have Superman fighting a cosmic vampire. Hmmm.

@thrashermario The only way I would ever want another film with the title 'Constantine' in it would be with Daniel Craig in the lead part. I'd even take Gordon Ramsay over old deadfish Keanu Reeves.
cha5 8 months ago
@cha5 Bwa ha ha, Gordon Ramsay! Chapeau!
DrGull1888 8 months ago
@DrGull1888 Well the idea of the Hell's Kitchen chef donning the old trenchcoat isn't as wild as some of the other ideas floating around out there, like the idea of Constantine heading a Justice League offshoot team :-{ crazy sounding idea I know but current Hellblazer writer Peter Milligan is writing it come September.
cha5 7 months ago
@cha5 Well, to be fair Constantine makes an appearance in "Crisis on Infinite Earths" and also in the JLU episode "Divided We Fall" although in the latter one he only stands in a crowd of superheroes. Oh, and he is in the Knightfall-spoof "Batman: Mitefall". So, the idea of Constantine appearing outside the Hellblazer universe isn't that new. But yes I agree, Constantine leading a team of superheroes is a bit absurd
DrGull1888 7 months ago
@DrGull1888 True enough, I don't really have any problem with him appearing in the DC universe, after all some of his most memorable stories outside of Hellblazer had him interacting with Swamp Thing,
The Sandman, peeing on The Phantom Stranger's shoes :D and other characters. I'm just a little afraid with this Flashpoint reboot storyline that's affecting all the major and minor DC characters that they might do something halfassed like give Conjob a Green Lantern ring or worse.
cha5 7 months ago

Cont
(which is a must read book, if you want an essential annotated reference guide to the world of TLOEG; Black Dossier. As are all of Nevins books concerning TLOEG)
cha5 9 months ago
Well according to Moore as regards Prospero's presence
"It was purely meant as a triumphal statement on behalf of the world of fiction. I was using Prospero as a spokesperson for my ideas concerning fiction and how important that world is, how dependent we are on it, how it can hardly be regarded as fictional at all when it has such far-reaching effects on the nonfictional physical world" At least that's Moore's explanation to Jess Nevins in Nevin's book 'Impossible Territories'.
cha5 9 months ago
@cha5 Oh, further literature about Steampunk and LoEG. I wasn't aware of that. I've just checked it on google. Thanks a lot for the recommendation.

@bizkarh Yeah, both great comics. It's too droll how Constantine stirs up the whole prison.
DrGull1888 1 year ago
habits i agree with, highwater i thought was awful ,what about rake at the gates of hell, and joyride ?
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie I'm not so sure with "Rake at the Gates of Hell". Is it the one with the composite hooligan monster? That was a neat idea. Joyride was fun. The best thing is the grandma who emits joy like Buddha himself.
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 rakes is the one where john has to deal with satan again when saten works out a way to beat the triumvirate problem he has with the other 2 lords of hell,he comes for johns soul, plus theres a riot in brixton ,joyride was a great story ,i like jamie delano stuff
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie Still not sure about "Rakes". Does John pit the three rulers of Hell against each other to survive his cancer? Or do I confuse this with Dangerous Habits? If so, I fear I haven't read Rakes at the Gates of Hell yet.
Yup, Jamie Delano is great but I only owe some Hellblazer stuff by him and a Batman/Man-Bat comic he did with John Bolton. What do you think of Steve Dillon's art work?
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 youre thinking of "habits" ,rakes is after that its the last work that dillon and ennis did ,its very rare in europe ,and is easily the hardest graphic novel to aquire,i like dillons artwork and coupled with master writer ennis they did some of hellblazers finest pieces, instantly recogniseable,i finally got my copy of rakes 2 days ago so im happy again!!
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie Aw fuck! Then Rakes is missing in my collection. A few years ago the paper shop in our main train station sold many Hellblazer paperbacks from the early nineties including Tainted Love and Habits dirt cheap. This is where I got the headstone of my collection. Have you read Preacher by Ennis and Dillon?
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 i had to order mine from the u.s ,well rakes anyway .I read preacher and it was very good ,i am halfway thru "the boys " ennis /dillon ,excellent !! also you really should try alan moores "swamp thing" where john makes his first appearance ,its utterly brilliant ,and "sandman "neil gaiman is amazing ,you see "lady joanna constantine " johns great gran ,she so cool ,
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie Preacher is one of my all time favourites. I reread it from time to time. The Boys is also great but I find after reading "The Self-Preservation Society" the constant humping and brutality a bit exhausting. Nevertheless the origin story of the female is brilliant. Who would have thought that s.o. can cross Asterix with Alien?
Lady Constantine was in Fables & Reflections. That was a good one. I also liked the Hellblazer special where Lady Constantine struggles for Pandora's Box.
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@happentodie fables was reasonably new ,i read sandman and was massively impressed ,but had to say swamp thing was easily my favourite its typical alan moore (genius) i always thought that john in the early days looked like "sting" lol he certainly does in swamp thing
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie Swamp Thing by Moore was a great series but it's not among my faves. My favourites by Moore are Watchmen, Top 10 and From Hell. My favourite Sandman books are Seasons of Mist and Doll' s House.
You are right about Sting. I heard from several sides that Sting was the role model for John Constantine.
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 if you see the cover of rakes of hell ,the similarity is massive ,ive always seen john as different to sting and it slightly annoyed me that he looked like him so much ,i liked watchman and from hell ,last thing i bought was league of extrordinary gentleman ,fantastic
happentodie 1 year ago
@happentodie Yup, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is great. The funny thing is that even the most minor character has a literaric origin. Have you also read The Black Dossier? I found it a bit cluttered with a not so clear story structure. Last year Moore began a new sequel named The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 1910. That was nice again with a lot of hints towards Berthold Brecht and Kurt Weil.
DrGull1888 1 year ago
@DrGull1888 I really liked parts of The Black Dossier especially the 3-D sequence (which was mindblowing) and some of the sendups of Orwell's 1984 and some of the obscure British literary characters, although IMHO Moore spent just maybe a bit too much time in Black Dossier making James Bond out to be a cunt and not enough time on a more clear and concise storyline. I agree that TLOEG 1910 Century was far enjoyable and am really looking forward to the next Century issue set in the late 1960s.
cha5 9 months ago
@cha5 Yeah, I liked the Big Brother, Harry Lime, Hugo Drummond, Emma Peel and James Bond part too. The 3D effect was also a nice idea but somehow I have my problems with Prospero's monnologue. I mean wtf? Moore tried hard to make us believe that literaric figures are real and then Prospero pops up and says that those characters are immaginary. I think this damages the whole premise of the world of LoEG.
Too bad that the release of LoEG 1969 has been postponed several times.
