Back when this happened it was headline news. Singaproe Air's deemed to be the best, safest carrier in the world and they never had a crash before so it shooked the region. That was SQ 006, a modern day titanic in the air.

I'd say its both the pilot and the airport to blame. It was a tragic series of mistakes from both parties.

What catalysed the mistakes was the weather.. it can be really bad but pilots usually take off in it and that's deemed acceptable there.

I praised the SIA cabin crew who risked their lives running back into the burning plane rescueing the passengers. A Singapore Girl was severly burned because her kebaya caught on fire, but it didnt stop her from running back in. I praised the SQ girls. She is an icon in the airline industry.

Actually I read that there was a debate over it. Some claimed that the pilot was partly responsible for the incident.
