I love this video, pretty beautiful if you take a step back and think about the message it sends. I just don't understand the part when she asks.... "Why Pyramids", and he replies "Immense Invitation"?
I've listened to this song a million times and the whole 'eternal life' idea is new to me! I'm glad it exists because it's less sad, though I agree, I still think the point of the song is that his curse was to drain the life of the one who disturbed him, which is why the stronger he becomes the weaker she does, sadly I don't think their love or the span of this 5 minutes is a lifetime. Though the more romantic interpretation is a lot more agreeable! :)
i was suffering from such bad depression that i literally could not get out of the bed. i felt drained and hopeless, i had lost all passion for love and beauty. then i found this song, and i opened the blinds, and i sat there in the sunlight and cried my eyes out. but they were cleansing tears. this song reminded me of the love in this world, that it does exist. it's so strong but so delicate and sweet. i was truly moved by this song.. i don't feel numb anymore. c:
Its a beautiful song, love to interpret in many different ways.
The curse, i guess, is that Mummy cannot die. And he has to suffer loneliness and silence.
The girl cures him when she finds him and gives him a new lease of life or so the mummy would like to believe though he knows it wouldnt be long enough ( until the girl grows old and passes away ) before he will be back to his curse.Maybe that's the reason he wants to meet other ppl too..havent seen earlier comments..pardon repetition..
@tinit63 He didn't want to take her life because he fall in love with her but when the priests did the curse so he had to still the life of the one that came into the tomb and disturbed him.
@tinit63 Basically what is happening here is that the mummy was cursed, until she disturbed his sleep, and then the curse was transferred to her. I am sure you noticed how as the mummy gets stronger, she gets weaker... until finally she succumbs to the curse, and the mummy puts her in the pyramid so that, some time in the future, someone will come and investigate the pyramid and she will get to live again...
@Froggy711 I considered it more that she got older as he got more used to being alive and that while he was immortal, she wasn't, so his curse was that he had to see her get older and die, but I don't feel like consuming the comments section anymore. Everyone has their own opinion, and that's fine. :)
Awh i love this song so much D; My dad and i where talking about this song and how he thinks that the mummy is still cursed and that he is actually sucking the life out of her the more they spend time with each other O_o i was like mind=blown because it actually kinda sound like it if you listen.. im not saying its true but i thought that was a pretty neat idea O_O if i do say so my self.. but i still love this song :D
What he means is that the mummy's curse is that his life is eternal, but hers isn't, and he's doomed to watch her age and wither away. That's why he never gives her a straight answer, so she doesn't feel guilty. That's just what I think though :)
My Junior English teacher played this video for us in class two days ago. In short, the whole class was throwing out insults. I fell in love with it first thing. I think it's such a beautiful song.
How special is this...... it shows that you should love someones inside "look" than the outside look of a person. Poor thing..... and when I mean thing I mean thing.

I first heard this song and Josh Ritter's voice over a year ago on NPR, yet I still love every word of every song; they are the songs I never skip on my iPod's shuffle, the songs that are still haunting, the lyrics that are still unfolding. Ritter is an amazing, rare talent, a genius.
i sit here at my computer trying to find words to explain my love for this song , but i am speechless , josh ritter i have loved you for so long , but i can honestly say , this time you have made me utterly speechless ! :')
This song Is so amazing, I love how there can be so many different interpretations and I can understand all of them and each is just as wonderful as the other
I saw it more as them using each other, despite feeling love. The lines "the halls of the tomb that she calls a museum" and "Think of them as an immense invitation" really stuck with me. He uses her to regain life, she uses him to gain notoriety. In the end, her life fades into obscurity while his becomes immortal in history and the memories of those who came to see him/read her books.
They genuinely loved each other. She built him up to be what he became and then he "outgrew" her. She couldn't handle his being put on display. It changed their relationship and it killed what they had. Her heart grew old and stopped beating because she couldn't take his moving on.
Why did they replace this video? Last week the mummy was playing the trumpet, now it's her playing it. Why? I thought it was better with him playing it.
Did you notice this: He is cursed. He gets stronger and famous quickly as she ages quickly. The cure is him taking her life. There is also a part that says she's just a rag dragging behind him. So he never really loved her, he just needed to take her life. In the end, it talks about pyramids. If they were buried in normal graves, then archeoligists wouldn't be that interested. the pyramids 'invite' people for the mummies to suck the life out of. It said that he hoped she'd forget that question...
@icedream1100 : That's one interpretation. The way I understood it, years passed off-screen. The woman he loved got old and eventually died while he remains, cursed with immortality. But I like your idea too.
This song is SO creepy. Did you notice: Here is a lyric that reveals, "She asks 'Are you cursed?' He says 'I think that I'm cured'. So, he is cursed. Did you notice that she gets old quickly throughout the song? He gets stronger and famous? He seems to suck the life out of her in the music video. He is cured because he finally has someone after thousands of years to suck the life out of. This lyric also reveals it is a curse, "But she's just one more rag now he's dragging behind him".
@MrsHouseTakeNewVegas I agree :-D The song alone is so beautiful and moving, but coupled with this stunningly powerful video-WOW!!!! :-D I'm not embarrassed to admit that I too shed a tear.
