I strongly disagree with Oriely's opinion about cannabis, but i think he is correct about harder drugs. Although we do have a freedom to our own bodies, that freedom can be restricted if it conficts either directly or indirectly with other peoples freedom. For example people who use hard drugs tend to commit more crimes (*crimes agaisnt other people and society*) then those who dont, and those crimes can affect other people and their rights.

My parents had a friend who was a stoner, and abusive... But he was a dick when he was sober, too. The pot just made him care less. He's serving life, now.
That said, he was an exception. Most of my parents' friends were stoners, and the worse they did was get stoned, sing badly to us, and stuff us with stoner snacks (like peanut butter sundaes or banana orange milk shakes) while making us watch the Wizard of Oz again and again.
Having just graduated from high school last year, I can tell you that weed is about 15 times easier to obtain than alcohol, for the sole reason that alcohol is regulated.
When people did get a hold of alcohol in high school, about 2/3 of the time it was something they'd stolen from their parents' liquor cabinet. So that leaves a VERY small relative percentage who are able to obtain their own bottles, kegs, or 12 packs.
So a guy on heroin looking for his next fix will visit his Dr LIE for a prescription THEN go to a Medical Marijuana shop with a few $100, buy it THEN go deal it out to kids to make a profit for his next Heroin hit?

Add to that the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on law enforcement, courts and prisons, all to no avail. It's just one more example of how Christian morality has been a travesty to what's supposed to be a secular society.

I strongly disagree with Oriely's opinion about cannabis, but i think he is correct about harder drugs. Although we do have a freedom to our own bodies, that freedom can be restricted if it conficts either directly or indirectly with other peoples freedom. For example people who use hard drugs tend to commit more crimes (*crimes agaisnt other people and society*) then those who dont, and those crimes can affect other people and their rights.

My parents had a friend who was a stoner, and abusive... But he was a dick when he was sober, too. The pot just made him care less. He's serving life, now.
That said, he was an exception. Most of my parents' friends were stoners, and the worse they did was get stoned, sing badly to us, and stuff us with stoner snacks (like peanut butter sundaes or banana orange milk shakes) while making us watch the Wizard of Oz again and again.

Having just graduated from high school last year, I can tell you that weed is about 15 times easier to obtain than alcohol, for the sole reason that alcohol is regulated.
When people did get a hold of alcohol in high school, about 2/3 of the time it was something they'd stolen from their parents' liquor cabinet. So that leaves a VERY small relative percentage who are able to obtain their own bottles, kegs, or 12 packs.
All because of REGULATION

This is true. The founding fathers were pro marijuana production in the US. It was Thomas Edison who said "Hemp is of first necessity to the wealth & protection of the country." George Washington also said "Make the most you can of the Indian Hemp seed and sow it everywhere." And yes, they were talking about marihuana. You can tell this, especially in Washington's case, by the use of the term "indian hemp". ( "indian" referring to India since Cannabis is native to south and central Asia.)

It's easier for kids to get pot than it is for them to get alcohol as it is, as surprising as that may sounds. The illegality of it is what's causing the junkie dealers selling pot to kids, and making it government regulated they could make sure it's clean, set the prices and take taxes out of it. Pot dealers would go out of business, no one wants to buy it from a shady junkie when there are other options.

I live in France and in my 20's I use to go to Amsterdam almost every weekend. The people selling drugs on the streets walk up to tourists, never to locals, 99% of the people smoking in coffee shops are tourists. As for billo, he's an insult to human intelligence.

I've gone on some drunken rampages before...I have NEVER been out of control while stoned. I recall this one time, my dad got all pissed off and was about to hit my mom a while back (yea... he's a douche). My aunt smoked him out and he walked out of the house laughing his ass off... Prohibition creates black markets, giving substances hugely elevated values. Legalization and regulation would make the substances practically worthless to criminals.
There's no alcohol smuggling or gang wars over booze turf since it became legal and regulated.
It was much easier for me to buy drugs than it was to buy booze when I was under 21, since dealers didn't sell booze.
People use, legal or not.

The social costs of drug prohibition are enormous. Gang related murders are extimated at 15,000 per year. We have no idea how many robberies and break-ins are committed in order to get cash to pay for expensive drugs, expensive because they're illegal. Add to that the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on law enforcement, courts and prisons, all to no avail. It's just one more example of how Christian morality has been a travesty to what's supposed to be a secular society.
