  • Great stuff. We are organizing for a public bank in Illinois! Google Illinois Public Banking.

  • The key here is that this state bank only makes sensible loans, including to city and local governments, at low or no interest. The interest that is earned goes directly back into the state's coffers for the general fund and further investments in the state's economy. This is why North Dakota now has lower unemployment, a budget surplus, and less dependence on Federal funding.

  • @barnabas001 ND unemployment has ZERO to do with its banking. It is called OIL that is driving unemployment. And this bank is called a credit union. we have those in other states. dude - wise up.

  • And then u tell me, how great this place is.... A place where only Jewish men with funny little caps prosper, a place that has pedophile enclaves everywhere u go..... A place that wants people to suffer so the minority makes all the moolah....I hope ur nose falls off like wacko jacko and u get raped by a big black guy once a week u piece of trash

  • Hoihoii u are a fucking fool!!! Lmao go to an er in "any slum, USA" lol. I'll be waiting in line. It's people like u that makes this country a piece of shit. America used to have true patriots..... Now everyone hates this place....literally "he'll on earth" I hope ur next or 1st child is born blind, with no teeth, and no legs..... I hope u lose ur job and ur "mini fortune" along with med benefits

  • I would say that California needs to do this, but the State of California is so corrupt that it wouldn't do much better than the Corporate snakes. I think something like this can only work with people who have morals and values other than money, money, money.

  • @laurenoliver23

And that is why ND is one of the best places to live. We have morals and actually give a damn about human suffering.

  • this makes me want to move to North Dakota.

  • Federal Reserve created Great Depression , federal Reserve created housing bubble , without cheap money it would not be possible ,

USA can do it cause the dollar is world's reserve currency , This is going to change cause everyone in the world suffers , and USA does suffers the least.

  • usa!

  • Look folks it's simple .... seek people for mathematically perfected economy ... tm mike montagne ... it's easy just a simple decision ... that's all

  • the Democrats has a great economic policy,, a populist policy,, but their pitfalls is that they have a very liberal social policy that alienate many rural voters

if the Dems willing to compromise in social agenda, and concentrate in economic policy they will sweep the nation again like in Roosevelt era

  • Capital: is the means of production. Human Capital: is the ability to perform labor to produce economic value. So, everyone making money from Mr. Moore to CEOs are capitalist. All countries produce something, so they too are capitalist; the difference is the ownership and control of the Capital via their government dictates. Moore does not realize his issue is with virtue when a culture loses its morality; as demonstrated by the US not following its Constitution is the source of his nemesis.

  • @Mike10four Well said!

  • The time has come for Free energy to be revealed ,But the Oil coporations life depends on covering this up,Check this free energy magnet motor at LT-MAGNET-MOTORdotCOM ,Be part of the revolution!

  • It is about time some one spoke the truth! God bless you Michael Moore. If we all could be half as honest. Then the world would be a better place.

  • One must distinguish between free market capitalism vs. fascism as well as socialism vs. kleptocracy. The United States & England are both mixed economies of fascism and kleptocracy. And furthermore, the false capitalism-socialism paradigm is keeping us fighting one another instead of coming together as populists to overcome the centralization and corruption of power that is severely hurting us all.

  • It's disgusting how Americans treat their poor like shit and worship their richest. Like anyone can be rich with hard work........ biggest line of BS ever. Tell that to the people who have to sweat every single day. As they say...... Keep them poor and send them to war.

  • OIL CORPORATIONS AND WALL STREET BANKSTERS SHOULD BE NATIONALIZED !

  • Oh my freaking god a bank with a soul my head just exploded.....!

  • The Bank of North Dakota is the way to go... it's REAL Capitalism. The system the Fed Reserve has us in is bastardized Capitalism. Capitalism worked great the first 160 years of America's history, till the banker's convinced Woodrow Wilson to let them create the Fed and institute an income tax... 1913, Jekyll Island

  • capitalism is the only reason michael moore is where he is.... just saying

  • @ElPrestono Exactly.

  • were screwed.......abandon ship

  • Well, this is probably the only bank in America with a ''conscious". We need more of these types of banks.

  • 2:59, and that is capitalism. Capitalism is beautiful. One day a new nation with form somewhere in the world, with a purist full-bore capitalist system and homogenous pro-capitalist memetics. This nation will have learn't how to prevent the memetic encroachment of leftist ideas, and one day we might even put a city on the moon.

  • @tothemax01

I like your intent and what you are trying to say here. But what you are implying is very, very dangerous. You have been infected by a dangerous meme that has been spreading among my fellow libertarians (which is why I could identify it quickly). Unfortunately, we do need leftist ideas. It is what keeps us balance. The left are great at detecting smoke, but usually make the fire worst.

Let me give a better meme: "Democracy within capitalism"

On memes: look up Dan Dennett

  • @Dollius Explain the statement 'unfortunately we do need leftist ideas'. To refer to my ideas as memetic implies they were not generated through rational means. Memetic theory applies very weakly to those with rational, open-minded tendancies. To yourself declare that I have such an infection implies you believe you are an enlightened, rational ubermenche talking down to me, as though I can't control my own ideas through rational process. And to that I take offence.

  • Wish we had one here in Alabama

  • Socialized health care my ass, how about assembly line medical care, now serving #213477444. Oop sorry Im on a break. Next window please. Some people dont associates negativity with socialism, but assembly line will get their attention

Help, the pro healthcare websites stop posting my comment. If you like my message, please help circulates. Just copy and paste.

  • what the fuck are you babbling about?

  • There were no less assembly lines under and socialist system. Things still need to be assembled either way.

  • Revolution

  • Furthermore, he was right about these community banks being better than the private ones. If you bother to inform yourself then you'd know that they were the banks least affected by the recession. And they never asked for a bailout.

  • Moore made a movie. Are you saying capitalism helped him make his movie? Because if you are, by your logic, there shouldn't be anyone making movies in socialist countries (or any country with a regime other than capitalism).

  • canada makes movies ......

  • @anakin11380

...Did you have to practice to be that stupid?

Capitalism and Socialism are not regimes, they are ideologies. You can have a government that uses ideas from both.

In the case of most of the industrialized world (i.e. Canada, UK, France, Netherlands) they adopted a form of capitalism that has socialistic tendencies.

It's a simple concept: Don't piss on the people that create your wealth and ensure that there is level playing field across the board.

  • We need a United States Public Bank, run by officials interested in the public good and not corporate greed.

  • @thoughtsurfer1 Yeah that's really going to happen you naive moron.

  • @thoughtsurfer1 We need a system of checks and balances good sir. Thus a system of state banks with the freedom to issue alternative currencies would decentralize power and give the American middle class greater freedom. Overcentralization of power leads only to fascism or kleptocracy as opposed to the mixed economy of free market capitalism & socialism which would be both plausible given our transpartisan society and IMHO ideal.

  • @thoughtsurfer1

Officials interested in the public good? Just where are you getting these officials? There are none. Our Government? Our Government let Angelo Mozilo, one of the biggest players in the financial crisis, go without jail time because he played their game. This is a main who sold over $400 million of his stock while lobbying its' strength. Look up, "Friends Of Angelo". There is your United States Public Bank.

  • @thoughtsurfer1 Have you ever heard of a credit union?

  • @thoughtsurfer1 We do. But good luck finding people who want to do good and not make their pockets fat

  • There isnt any bank in nd that "suffered any fallout" The only difference is smart conservative people in a Smart conservative state...need I say more?

  • @6redline3

Stop with this conservative/liberal bullshit. It has nothing to do with a political bent anymore.

The banks in ND didn't get mixed up with risky financial behavior. They in a way, self-regulated...The way capitalism is supposed to work. Sadly, the larger banks did not. They scrambled for all the wealth they could for the past 30 years.

Yet when someone says, "Let's pass more regulations for banks (like the ones ND uses)" everyone screams "Socialism!"

  • OK guys, the way it works is that presently, govt gives a license to rich people to start a bank with 10-29 million dollars.

The license allows them to loan out 10+ times as much money as they have. This is all effects the same as printing "money".

However, there is interest on every erg of money created this way. Thus it is "debt-based money".

The money to pay the interest is actually never created adn thus can never be paid.

The end of the game is like monopoly, where banks foreclose..

  • We need more banks like that.

  • @andruh99 Uh if you hadn't noticed, countries in the world that allow businesses to profit are the most prosperous ones.

  • @leeason1 And we (the US) are prosperous? I doubt it....

  • it's nice to see that even michael moore isn't above using a dainty, soft-spoken nice old lady and some heartwarming piano cliche music to let you know that the story is supposed to turn out positive. because even micheal has difficulty letting the story speak for itself sometimes.

  • @geekdiggy

So you wont take it seriously unless its told by Glenn Beck or maybe Jesse Ventura?

Or if they choose a woman it has to be a butch woman?

    Deep or maybe High piercing?

Soft spoken women cant be taken seriously in regards to controversial issues?

Sheesh, i pity you how much you have to discard by that rule

  • glen beck? jesse ventura? butch woman? where the fuck are you getting this? and responding like a madman to all comments in this video, what are you, some kind of crusader? listen to yourself dude. for fucks sake listen to yourself.

  • @geekdiggy a bit late replying, but RL busy, oh well

I thought to rebuke you properly but theres nothing there, you just ignore your own comment and go on some rant basically saying how dare I reply to you rationally.

You really need to calm down, you were so worked up you felt the need to curse over a comment. You act like your comment was above rebuke.

How about next time responding to the reply and not acting like your above reproach.

  • @waltermh111 you are SO SAD.

  • A very good story more Americans need to know about.

  • Socialism, capitalism, fascism even... It all does not exist; it is just names.

    there is only POWER

we have to get rid of all hierarchy; get rid of all maldistribution of power. through full direct democracy.

fully democratize the state (wich wouldn't BE a state but the very absence of the state) and fully democratize the capitalist economy (wich wouldn't BE capitalism but socialism).

But can't we have capitalism without greedy powerhongry ego-manics on top? NO! because THATS HIERARCHY.

  • Yes, doesn't matter socialism or capitalism. What matters is what works best for the people!

  • скачжите плизз когда фильм выйдет на РУССКОМ языке?

  • Oh my God, it's a SOCIALIST bank.

Quick buy food supply for a year because we are under siege from Czars.

  • HA HA HA HA HA HA

  • Capitalism provides the most services w/ the least cost if you factor out the greedy business executives who salivate over multi-million dollar bonuses.

  • @MishuTaste hahahaahaha so then it is not the least cost dude because we they still are paying big bonuses

  • exactly

  • Capitalism works when you get rid of the capitalist.

  • Comment removed

  • Like a system where the workers are in charge. They determine how much they get paid, how things are run and in the end the product belongs to all of them.

I think some German guy born in the 19th century wrote about this kind of system...;-)

  • Working will be abolished.

Labor will be embraced. Labor is what you do out of own satisfaction.

In the end it is fair that all laborers decide together what happens with the total product of that labor. Those who don't labor will automatically get everything that satisfied their basic needs but they don't have the right to get any more since they did nothing to contribute by laboring to gain the right to co-control the total product of labor.

  • ahahhahaha that is a good one you are right

  • capitalism without the ridiculously disproportionate bonuses would be great.

BUT (there is a but here...) since capitalism is based on property rights, and property rights are what makes it possible for people to give ridiculous bonuses (because property rights say: it's your money and only you have control over what happens with it) you will NEVER have a 'different/better' capitalism.

If you want to be able to control that money, you have to democratize the economy. and THAT IS SOCIALISM.

  • And what's wrong with Socialism?

Why are Americans so afraid of that word?

  • It's the most misused word in American history. Terrorist/m is second.

  • Self proclaimed moderates call things socialism because their favorite politician or news anchor told them to. Most people can't think for themselves, they leave it up to other people.

  • @creamaster The street in front of your residence is "socialism".

  • What's that mean?

  • The street in front of your home is open to the general public, paid for through property taxes, is managed publicly & isn't operated on a profit or loss basis for it's continued existance.

  • Thank you.

  • @creamaster Because they don't understand it, US has been though to be afraid to anything that is not capitalism and honestly (because I live in US) almost nobody have a clue of politics.

  • @creamaster It promotes laziness, a lazy employee owes just as much as a hard working professor. It destroys free markets. It does not define man as “created equally” but instead “deserves everything equally”. It gives losers/drug addicts/poor/homeless people a free pass. If it’s so great, why do Europeans go to America when they need immediate specialized health care? Cause when they need help, they’re told to “Get in line!”.

    Nazi Germany/Stalin/North Korea/Cuba, need I say more?

  • @hoiiooiiooiiooiiooii A little more, yeah. Your argument sounds more like you're arguing against communism. Poorly.

    Nazi Germany: Dictator

    Stain/N.Korea/Cuba: Communism

Canada: Socialism (and, as you point out, much of Europe. though far as I've read, people have been going to India or Costa Rica when they need urgent good medical attention - including Americans who can't afford it in America.)

  • @creamaster Still, I believe capitalism is better. Socialism encourages people to be 'average', capitalism encourages people to make progress. When you invent something in a socialist country, you'll get paid just as much as a lazy employee, but when you invent something in an capitalist country you'll owe the credits.

  • @hoiiooiiooiiooiiooii Nobody's suggesting the end of private enterprise, but only an option for those who would also like a state run bank that shares the money with the community as opposed to simply allowing rich bankers become more wealthy. If you choose to place your money in a private bank you can do so, but anyone wishing to choose a state run bank to handle their money doesn't have that choice in most states.Freedom of choice is not socialism and right now it is choice that is unavailable.

  • @hoiiooiiooiiooiiooii What you describe is a communist country, not socialist. The word socialist is misused. Go to prosperity (dot) com. The top nine countries by many people's definition would be called 'socialist', with universal health care, and subsidized or free college/university education. Yet, these countries come out on top and also have the happiest citizens.

Germany (82 million) is number 2 in the world for GDP (behind China, 1 billion people). Not bad for a socialist country.

  • @Thor17 Correction to last paragraph, EXPORTS, not GDP. Source: CIA World Factbook 2010.

  • A StateSocial Peoples Bank.....

That helps Human beings to become Human

    Not anti-social Corporatism....

    That consumes Humans!

    Thanks MM!

I guess there is hope in the Dakotas.

    Here that California?

  • We need a Bank of Nevada really bad.

  • Canadain Banks are doing well - but they never had bush and cheney running their country into the ground. - Never deregulated like US and UK

  • 1920???

    thefederal reserve started in 1913.

you know, i dont like capitalism either, but its this sort of crap that makes people go against the cause...

  • @xkeltoix what are you talking about?

what makes you go agianst the cause?

  • If you think up anything that could possibly happen in a worst case scenario ... I guarantee, it is happening. No one ever talks about what happens to all the money that sits unclaimed in banks ... can you say slush fund? They have already robbed the poor and now the plan seems to be to rape them

  • There are no good banks, period. Her soft, timid voice isn't at all convincing. The minute you buy the idea of a "good bank," that's when you get screwed, and shame on MM for presenting this antithetical argument when to say anything good about "them" HASN'T BEEN EARNED

  • @WarRogers I think you're missing the point. They aren't saying the bank is perfect. It is not the most prosperous and competitive bank in the world, but it is relatively stable and reliable since it operates safely and ethically. It's the sort of thing you get from small credit unions which I am quite happy with. Smaller banks and credit unions may not have the many frills provided by larger firms, but they are on average more trustable and reliable, just like this small public owned bank.

  • @yoink. And some thieves let you live when they say they will if you just give them what they want — they may be more trustworthy & reliable but they're still thieves.

Until the entire system is given a massive, honest overhaul, it is very dangerous to start saying "some are good." As long as they're making money in a corrupt system, credit unions/local banks are playing the same game ie, screwing us. Checked your hidden fees lately? If you bounce a $10 check do they take $300? Betcha they do

  • @WarRogers Maybe so, but in the meantime until such reform happens, the point is this: take your money out of big banks and banks known for these unethical practices. Maybe all banks are rotten, but by knowingly contributing to firms that are known to have the most unethical practices only creates more of an incentive to continue these practices. If a bank is only rumored to be "good" and it turns out they are rotten to the core, at least it threatens firms to know that they may lose business.

  • I hear people say this all the time, take your money out of the big banks and put them into community banks. It makes no sense to me, I'm supposed to trust $100,000.00 dolllars to a hole in the wall bank who may not even be FDIC insured? Do we really think when worse comes to worse that it will be easier to get your money back from a small bank than a larger one? When the banks ran out of money in the '30's no one could get their money out, paychecks that were issued same day we already bad.

  • @zombiejon id say don't trust anyone. Get the most secure safe in the world and load all your cash in it lol

  • And there are plenty of very reliable, respectable, and even classy small credit unions (certainly not "hole in the walls" as you inaccurately generalize them as!), many of which you can get an account fully insured in excess of $250k by the US government.

  • @zombiejon Its funny that you say may not be FDIC insured when its quite esy to see if they are insured and in fact most are.

    Just do your research.

But the point of investing into small banks is that tey do tend to be more reliable about investiments.

They also will invest more in local things.

From my experience with a few, they have better customer service too because from top to bottom they are local.

Also I have had much better interest rates from them.

  • @WarRogers ur right on that

  • @WarRogers

How do you know it hasnt been earned?

Did you have a bad experience with tem?

I have found that credit unions are much better than big banks.

I wouldnt take your anecdotal evidence as anything much.

Banks do serve a purpose, and there are good ones.

Only problem I see is they still gouge you for overdraft.

It costs them nothing for the computer to automatically move funds from one account to another and they still chargw $35

Still, theres many benefits explained below

  • Wish all of them had that kind of mentality and a way of doing things. You can rip people off their money and "draft" them into a war so they can eat..Or you can fill their hearts and minds with love, positive solutions and a non greedy aproach and have a whole nation of people on your side..And if you ask me, id rather have an army of people with their hearts full on my side then one with their bellys empty.

From Slovenia , we support you Mike..

  • I think everyone who watches this video should send it to at least 4 other people. If the American people could get this information that there is an alternative to the gangster banks maybe we might survive. If we don't make a change I don't think we will survive.

  • I live in Illinois and we could sure use a state owned bank here, I'll bet California could use one too.

  • california would use the money from the bank to pay their debts LOL

  • the big banks shoudl look up to the bank of north dakota.

  • The problem is not "big bank/small bank" but "gamble/investment" or in other words "short term gain/long term gain"

And with the way the management bodies are paid for them short term is better, fcuk the stock holders/owners.

If the company/corporation/whatever goes bankrupt they got money in the pocket and dont care about the consequences.
