  • love, love Gladys Knight - and The Pips - oh my goodness - hold me back!

  • I never get tired of hearing this song. Now that is how to sing a song. This woman is in a class of her own. Considering the orchestra are not in tune with her! Excellent performance. Well worth 7 grammy awards.

  • TIMELESS

  • Gosh! I love this song... for my LOVE! my bluesman forever!

  • thanks for uploading this video, really love this song.... "such a beautiful song" more power and more songs please....

  • This song is just raw and has no respect of societal barriers. I mean - who hasn't been there? and if you haven't, (like my auntie used to say} "chile just keep livin" TIMELESS!

  • she's been singing since 1973 and before, not only does she still sound absolutely amazing but she's just AS BEAUTIFUL~

  • This is a classic

  • Hello to say Goodbye,,PRICELESS,,man to Cry is Humble

  • This absolute Soul classic can't fail to touch the emotions.....what else can I say really.

  • i may be getting older but i will always consider myself lucky enough to have grown up with songs like this. Songs like this can never be replaced by the songs of today. These are forever priceless.

  • No, they don't make em like this one anymore.

  • here because of X Factor?

  • @adriisonfire Me too! Marcus did such a good job!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS!!!! IM A BIG GLADY KNIGHT FAN! I LOVE HER!! I LOVE HER VOICE!!!

  • omg I always loved this song in high school

  • She defines an amazing woman

  • Timeless, Pricess...This is when music was at its best. I am speechless.

  • What a painful, soulful and sad song this has always been. I watch her sing it here and I am moved to tears. Who among us has not lived this song.

  • Classic!!

  • One elegant lady, without a doubt.....my favorite female singer of all time!!!!

  • Are you nuts? That's not her hair. That's a FALL. You're probably too young to know about FALLS. Every BLACK woman had at least one back in the day.

  • @pa6786

That IS her hair . . . she paid for it!

  • I agree with you cjm608. What a voice!!!!!

  • Despite the process Sista' Glady's is wearing, it has so much body and fullness, she appears to look so healthy. In 1973 fast food and genetic engineered food wasn't at a all time high as it is now. They ate mostly natural cooked food back then and still recieved better health results than we do, today. Mother Nature is the way to good health.

  • @Gluchyon She looks dynamite.....

  • WARNING EVERYONE; don't go into msjlv's channel, she's a bitch and a hypocrite who really wants to destroy anyones life!

  • Superb!!!!

  • @curtiswilliams1000

Agreed! Not to forget, this is a LIVE performance. Perfect.

  • estupenda cantante, voz extraordinaria, que clase de artista y una hermosa canción.

  • man i had one of those "convincing ourselves to give it one more try" man she put it all in the right words. thank you gladys!

  • If there was one person I wanted to sing like - it is her! Hands down.

  • Best alto singer of all time in my opinion!! Anyone agree?

  • ...Damn...let your heart be set free

  • Pure soul from the deepest of her heart. Relaxation wihtout pills.

  • Have to agree with str8outtatexas - music today is souless

  • airtight

  • This has to go down as one of the most outstanding live performances EVER.......I could listen to this over and over .Todays so called artists should hang their heads in shame.

  • Thank God for Gladys Knight.

  • One of the greatest soul ballads sung by my favorite R & B singer. Just honest, raw emotion with a heartfelt delivery. She doesn't have to over emote like so many of today's singers, choosing understatement and dynamics to create a legendary performance.

  • 4 FOUR PEOPLE DONT GET IT...MAKES ME SAD ...THATS REAL MUSIC

  • OMG that's talent. It just doesn't get any better than Gladys, Aretha, Patty, Phillis, Whitney and Tina.

  • @thevoice0071 You are so right!!!! I agree with u!

  • Classic old school....Queen of R & B

  • songs that actually have heart and soul gone bye bye thats sad. Songs back then meant something and help tell a story. MISS YOU MOWTOWN

  • lovit babe

  • Words are Superfluous...

  • classic theme, still holds universal truth today. so much raw emotion. love it.

  • love it!! why arent singers of today like this abit more...shes fully covered and still looks amazing and sounds like she was meant to be on that stage...

  • @satori802 -same here brah.these music lovers of today think we're old and every era has their great artist or we're living in the past and need to move on,but that's not why we bash 95% of today's garbage. It's because of what you & i said above. SOUL-LESS,PASSIONLESS,NO TRUE MEANING,& PURELY ALL ABOUT THE MONEY,FUCK TALENT. You,I, & many others know who's behind this madness.Brah not only in the music, but in the real world also,i agree.GREED,POWER,CONTROL,SUPPRESSION, & DESTRUCTION .

  • She is soooo pretty, body and soul , love her , Bless you Gladys.

  • God bless you Gladys Knight for being in touch with your spirit. This is such a beautiful song and it's so painful too. I'm so happy that I'm not in a relationship that is not going anywhere. Yes, it's so hard to break up with someone who you care for, but you know the relationship is not going to work. It's painful to let go, but it's necessary to find peace. Love the Pips as well. Peace.

  • she is so God Damn Beautiful... Transcendental...

  • THIS WOMAN IS THE MOST TALENTED SINGER ON THE PLANET!

  • "さよならは悲しい言葉"、1973年、発表されてすぐ、河原町、十字屋で購入した、グラディス・ナイトとピップスの傑作中の傑作!

  • SUCH an incredible performance ! Thank YOU for posting.

  • This is just my opinion.....but i must say that Black Soul Music is THE MOST POWERFUL of all types of music. I love of kinds of music but i must be honest and say that this type of music is just untouchable to me. This kind of music gets all down inside of you....it really ministers to your soul like no other kind of music can.

  • When this song came out I thought the relationship I was in, was my whole world. I could not hear this song on the radio without crying cause we broke up and he was going off to college. I survived!

  • Beauty, class and talent wrapped up in one incredible lady.

  • if u take a song, and close your eyes, and your heart beat faster, and your eyes water because u can picture it in your heart, it dont matter about the ass, the dick, the bling? thats what real music do!!

  • 白黒映像だが、グラディス・ナイトの熱唱が直に伝わる"さよならは悲しい言葉"(NietherOneOfUs)

    1972年頃か、ブッダに移籍前の!

  • @str8outtatexas1 To be fair, there is plenty of contemporary soul out there for those who want it- Sharon Jones, Amy Winehouse, and groups like the Dap King, The Roots, Soulive, and Lettuce. You just have to want to hear it, and it's everywhere.

  • @emmaleahmusic I've heard some of the acts you name here and I must say that they simply can't begin to come close to this brilliance. Saw Amy Whinehouse in London six years ago and wondered what the hype on her was all about. Horrific performance. It must be said that what passes for "R&B" today, excluding Jon Legend, is fantasticly bad. It's as if they never paid attention to who came before them.

  • Gladys sure can sing a song from the heart. She still looks so beautiful today.

  • MUSIC BACK IN THE DAYS ARTIST COULD ACTUALLY SING! TODAY IS AUTONED

  • Incredible voice, beautiful woman!

  • God, how amazing does she sound live!!!!

  • Awsome talent, almost brings tears to my eyes! I can feel the emotion. I totally agree with str8outtatexas.

  • Man, back then you could find a song to fit every emotional life situation that you could experience. Today I have to keep playing the song over just to figure out what they are saying and even when I understand the language the song still doesnt make since.

  • @MsSteviD OMG you aint NEVA LIED Msstevi. You hit the nail on the head wit that one!

  • yes indeed im 45 yrs. old and right now im injoying this and sum! SING GLADYS SING debbiegolddonald@yahoo.com

  • yes indeed im 45 yrs. old and right now im injoying this and sum! SING GLADYS SING

  • i want to serve a great ass whoopin to the 3 lames that thumbed this down, are you kidding me whom ever you three are get a life you pathetic losers.

  • ....SANG GLADYS SANG THE SONG

  • Oh, the best!!

  • Pure Soul , Lol !

  • Gladys Knight was the kind of artist who intimidates other accomplished artists, like when Smokey Robinson heard her demo of "tracks of my tears" and didn't want to record the song after hearing it, it was TOO GOOD ... or when Diana Ross made Berry Gordy replace GKATP's as the Supremes opening act on the road, because they were TOO GOOD

  • Ohhh too good!! Sung with emotions...you can feel it!!!

  • Gladys Knight + Jamerson , beautiful.

    Who can ask for more?

Was that really Jamerson ? Not clear in the video.

I wish they make music like this today.

  • A beautiful song and sung with so much emotion. When I want to hear good music I come to Utube.

  • @choefoe...she knows the deal lol

  • Why is this out of sync? It certainnly looks as if it's a live show and not miming

  • @jazypee out of sync? Check your broadband!

  • A eterna Imperatriz do Soul. Jamais teve o mesmo tratamento que outros artistas da Motown. Baita injustiça.

  • if gladys sang for me...i might leave my wife

  • @marcodayne I hpoe your wife can,t read this or has a lot of humour ;-)

  • WHEN IS THE GRAMMYS GONNA DO A STAR STUDDED TRIBUTE TO GLADYS ?????!!!!! CAUSE ARETHAS WAS OFF THE HOOK THOSE GIRLS SANG THERE FACES OFF

  • One voice,one talent,No marketing,no skin,just raw talent and CLASS. Thank you God!!! Thanks G &P's.

  • @tailor7793 ...Amen!!!

  • Sharing your view!!!

  • every time i find the nerve to say i'm leaving memories those old memories get in my way...

  • I sung this song in David Payton"s Play "Stand By Me" you can find it on Youtube under Aletia singing Neither One of Us, I got a standing ovation

  • gladys have an amazing unique voice the same exquisite angels of heaven when you hear singing extremesen are the greatest thing that has been blessed I praise you're the best !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 50 years from now, I wonder if they will call Beyonce a legend?

  • As a female singer that LOVES to sing this kind of song, I wish people today would take the time to listen to meaningful music like this! Good music is out there...but people have to be willing to LISTEN...that means put the cellphones down, stop fidgeting, listen to the music, and let the emotions flow.

  • So classy and beautiful!

  • 1972 a Very Beautiful year and an even more Beautiful song. Sung like no one else Gladys Knight.

  • so gorgeous

  • these were the days when real artists make real & good music

  • This is heaven. They can have that trash from today. I can have this all day long. Thanks for posting!!!

  • She's is one of the only artist from back in the 60s and 70s that still sounds EXACTLY the same today. Go ahead Gladys

  • the music is great, but seeing the actual performance. WOW!!!!!!!!!

  • at 44 yrs. old i'm still wondering how did music like this turn into singing about your ass, dick, money, clubs, strip clubs, bling, cars & other senseless, repetitive,no creative,no substance bullshit? i've noticed that artist today DON'T have the voices, passion, love, & soul as the artist in the 60's,70's,80's,early 90's.today they don't have to put in the hard work like they did back then.if you don't have a great body, big ass, or a raunchy mouth, you're not gonna make it in todays industry.it's sad

  • @str8outtatexas1 I'm 50 and agree with every word you said. So sad! Live in Rio. Here things are not different. My 15y.o. son can only listen to rap and funk or worse BS. Believe me, there is worse. I gave up all hope. Just let it be.

  • @str8outtatexas1 well said!!

  • @str8outtatexas1 Good question. I'm an old guy. Heard all of these tunes and more from as early as 1956. Music isn't music anymore. That's all I got to say.

  • @str8outtatexas1 This is realy music......expressing with real feelings. A kind of music made for sensitive and people with principles. People that has values can appreciate this. Musics these days certainly do not express their music the way it was written like during the 60's and the 70's. Poetry.

  • @str8outtatexas1 It is sad. If kids wanted to hear somebody fart on a record, the industry would promote it and the radio stations would play it, just to make money.

  • @str8outtatexas1 i agree but what do u think about artist like alicia keys and lauryn hill?

  • @IndiBoo002 I have nothing against either of those ladies; but they've never made me cry when I hear them sing. Gladys is among the only ones who can take me there.

  • @str8outtatexas1 amen say it right!

  • @str8outtatexas1 Yeah, nowadays it's the dross that rises to the top not the cream.

  • @rusty1491 -that's definitely true there brah.

  • @str8outtatexas1 Amen brother

  • @str8outtatexas1 I'm wondering the same thing too. Those that control the music industry have one thing in mind and that is to corrupt this generation to the point that the will no longer know whats was once good.

  • @str8outtatexas1

    Ditto.

always had an open mind..but im getting sick of todays sexed up melodicLESS drone...this is soo subtle..so perfect. The classicmusic of the pop era..up there with coltrane, beethoven, mozart bach etc

  • @str8outtatexas1 thanks str8... this comment made me believe I`m not as crazy as I thought, because I dont like modern music :-)

  • @Onyemeachi -no it's just not you,and you're not crazy believe me.

  • @str8outtatexas1 At 24 yrs old I wonder that as well.

  • @str8outtatexas1 Preach !! So true and yet so so sad. The Oh Mighty Dollar and social decline has redirected the would be talents of true artistry. Its sad where we are. How do we get back to feel good, uplifting, creative, great music? Artistry expressed and appreciated as shown here with a stellar performance by a Lady with immeasurable talent, poise and delivery.

  • @theslabbxxx Stop buying the crap that they give us. Start throwing listening parties, so the youth can partake in feel good music of yesteryear, instead of the musical poison that radio and record companies like to push so they can sell more products and make people feel inferior.

  • @str8outtatexas1 ....Man....I was just thinking all of that put together....all of it...

  • Now this is true game.

  • IS VERY BEAUTIFUL GLADYS KNITH AND PIPES

  • I had the pleasure of seeing them in a small theater in the round in 1982, we had second row seats. She stood 15 feet away from me singing this, I had chills through the whole song. Such an amazing voice!

  • @kjvales wow...I envy you so much..I get chills from this post so I can only imagine...from Australia...lol

  • @salsalover69laters I have been to many concerts over the years, but that one is still by far my all time favortie.

  • She is clearly one of the greatest and most unique singers in the history of recorded music. And lucky for all of us, her voice is still pristine, intact, soulful, perfect. How many singers can you say that about? They all lose something.....Gladys has lost nothing!! Long live The Empress of Soul!

  • This is the year i was born. im glad this song was a big hit.

  • She has a Voice so Beautiful... I'd bet she could evoke emotion out of a stone!

  • @SteverinoCanEat Yeaaaaaa an Angie Stone....:) No more rain (:

  • Gladys Knight was HOT!!!

  • Drrummergirl and jkiene couldn't have said it better! Nor can I!

  • she is not lip singing this song hurts my heart

  • Drummergirl, I understand what you're saying. We have so much canned music shoved down our throat.

  • sometimes i think troy that played in crookyln look like gladys.

  • awesome song...how life can really be like that!

  • Gladys' beautiful voice with it's near perfect pitch, depth, rhythm and timing along with those deep swells she effortlessly belts out is what sets her apart from all other divas... IMHO she is a national treasure and we've been blessed by her presence. All those who agree... say "I".

  • @OMGDeBest "I"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @janee92 Thank you for sharing this. I'm very, very sorry honey about your loss!

  • Gladys Night was, is, and will remain the best female performer of all times. she managed to keep a perfect reputation through her entire career. She's not just a great performer, she's also a "lady" in every sense of the word. She remains as beautiful as can be. No one could ever wear your shoes, Gladys...

  • my all time favourite female vocalist

  • cool na cool

  • Like most people, I've had some bad breakups and some terrible ones. This song always seems to haunt me. There were definately times when we both should have said goodbye and started the healing process long before we did.

There's not a modern day singer out there today that can match Gladys Knight's voice.

  • You're right about that!

  • Like most people, I've had some bad breakups and some terrible ones. This song always seems to haunt me. There were definately times when we both should have said goodbye and started the healing process long before we did.

  • This was the year that i feel in love with Bam Bam, we loved and lived off this type of beautiful music. Thanks Gladys, Teddy and all

  • WOW! There was the best talent the year I was born!!! wooo hooo 1973!

  • I cannot get enough of this clip. Gladys Knight is a diamond! She shines bright with her immense talent, and showmanship. Her emotions and actions authentically match the song she is singing. The Pips augment the song in form and fashion; they are not taking anything away from the performance at all. What a great performance!

  • love this song even though i was dumped to it all those moons ago CLASS xx

  • those fukkin horns RUINED this for me!!And old Glad is singing her heart out too!!Shame,,,

  • This song simply touches something inside of you - in a very profound way. Some consider it to be a "break-up" song, but in a very enigmatic way, it makes you want to recapture and cling to the love that brought you together. Only Gladys could have pulled this off in such a way. Wow, her voice give me goose-bumps . . . .

  • I saw Gladys and the Pips live in the 70's. Love you Gladys. Love you Pips! xxx

  • i really love this song it has sooo much meaning to it....gladys is a true singer

  • Thanks Gladys!!!!!!!!!!! Can I be a Pip?

  • I think this is my favorite singer, song, lyrics, clip, and performance I have ever seen...EVER....what a Goddess...both in looks, expression and voice...truly the "Goddess of Soul in my view...pure joy listening and watching...

  • Gladys Knight is an Incredible Talent.... Her voice, her emotion and intonation are unmistakable in a song such as this one and "You are the best thing that ever happened to Me"... her voice combined with the music and lyrics can't help but put a in your eye...

  • Gladys Knight, You Are The Best Thing That Ever Happened To Me!!!!
