Travis Barker, for all of you who are saying that he's better than DOM FAMULARO (yeah, caps lock is indeed needed here), can't play 0.00000000000000001 % of what this old guy right there plays. So please, for the love of god, stop saying this kind of nonsense and go learn what true drumming is.
After Travis Barker, dude's the best! Only Barker is better than this dude. Barker & Barker only! In a few more years, though, this guy might have what it takes. It's close but this guy doesn't fly upside down. Travis flies upside down, does snare drum technique concept work & jams against different styles. Playing just jazz is a cop out a lot of guys take when they can't handle the passion & power of rock and roll. A lot of older guys go through a mid-life crisis thinking they're Buddy Rich!
@JoeJacari what are you talking about? Jazz isn't about coping out, it's about expression, and feels. Also Dom is a teacher and does a lot of sessions, not just jazz. Dom is excellent, and doesn't need to spin on a riser to be good.
@VentoRdrummeR Its fine..but Joey is in the league Ulrich is..theyre good but theyre not technicians..they do it its way..I respect it..but Potgieter and Barker are from a group of drummers that are a disease who have cool popular drummers as the rev(rip),Portnoy,Aaron Gillespie or Adam Deitch..so popularity should be irrelevant for us who sit at the back of the stage..so cool you spoke your mind
@extemist77 a lot..the same with Jordison and Barker...Kindergarten wannabes whos ass is kissed by their idiotic fanboys...Im kinda sick of Cobus..hes not that good and hes considered world class and I have friends in YT who ara miles better and sadly ignored for not being a pricey camera angle prettyboy...Wrong this is theyre sooo overrated, especially that deedlebag
@OfivetwoekVeeDee I get your point, absolutely, but I think that's a basic law of music - just like pop music being commercially more rewarding than, say, jazz. not because it's artistically more valuable, but rather appealing to a wide range of people. nothing wrong with that. jordison, barker, cobus: they are all talented, energetic drummers whose style impresses young people who like that kind of music. popularity doesn't mirror quality. sorry for ranting :)
@IxdokuxI Well its cool because its like "Whoa look at all that shit he's doing thats nuts!" But this isn't necessarily something you're supposed to bob your head to. This is more a showcase of drumming technique and raw creativity than him trying to make a beautiful song/beat.
i just want to go and buy me a bunch of crashes now, put them on my set, sit down, look normal and be all silent, then just start going crazy like dom and go awe!!!!!!!! while doing tht then walk away like nothing hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah! sounds like fun to me :D
He came out the Tony Williams/ Billy Cobham era. His facial expressions and theactrics are reminscent of Papa Joe Jones, who was probably an influence. Great playing, not everyones cup of tea, but try doing this yourself and you begin to appreciate the guy and his talent. What series of Mapex is he using? The snare sounds killer
yea youer right, he just doesnt strike me as a guy who would use a double pedal, but good for him. hes not like other drummers his age and style who havent gotten around to using double pedals in their techniques
oh yea i play the drums & the person that teaches me for drums he said that i should look up the video of dom famularo & so far i've been listening to him. well done dom famularo. well done.
CHad Smith really reminds me of Dom right here. Dom has much better technique than chad but im talking more of his attitude and dynamics on the whole kit
I wish this guy would be my school's motivational speaker. This guy won my vote as a motivator to play drum when I saw his moeller technique instuction video.
I went to his clinic in Mobile Alabama hosted by Andy's Music Company 25 years ago. he change my life! I was self taught and boy was I wrong on a lot of technique until I listened to his instruction. I was INSTANTLY a better faster drummer the next day after his clinique. THANKS DOM!!!!!
It's not just about the "drum solo" technicalities. I dig the personality expressed there. Some humor and serious. All in all that's what I would call self expression.
lame...spending all your time on building chops and not focusing on grooving will make you sound like this guy. sorry, but he doesn't groove to me. if you want to hear groove go watch a steve gadd solo. drumming is about music, not about how fast you can go around the drumset
he is the shit. plus, he has something that alot of drummers, personality. most drummers are pretty boring to watch when they do solos, you never know what this guy is going to do next.
The ones who were critizating this God of drumer are just jelaous, i dare all of you to play something ten times slower and complicated than this, you all are just a bunch of lossers.
By not very musical, I meant that for 90% of this solo, I could not relate or feel what he was trying to do. As a drummer, I want to feel a sense of tempo during a solo - not just randomly hitting cymbals and drums at different volumes at different speeds. To me, it's boring.
That's just it. Why should a solo be so difficult for me to grasp? (BTW I've been playing for 30+ years) I think Dom is a great drummer. Seems like a solo is either a mad display of chops whithout any sense of feel or time, or playing some nice rhythms with wicked fills and grooves built in. I prefer the latter which Dom does throw in - but not enough.
alright. at your first comment i thought it sounded ignorant but the latter is understandable, if not a little more. i even agree with it somewhat, just in your first comment i thought you were remarking on dom's overall skill and not just this solo.
The number of years one has played is pointless. Each drummer is free to express himself however he chooses, and it doesn't mean that every time you sit down to solo that you have to throw EVERYTHING you know into it.
Not all solos have to be structured. Many great ideas can be conceived through creative exploration, which means you don't always have to be strapped down to a groove. Dom has immense enthusiasm and an infectious approach to playing.
Dom is fun to watch. I saw him back in the'80s at a clinic w/Billy Cobham and he was great. I prefer solos that you walk away from saying "Wow that was impressive". I was more impressed 25 yrs ago.

fucking noob this is just silly, what is he trying to prove he looks fucking ridiculous throwing his arms in the air like that like a retarted monkey... asshole
I love watching this solo after watching his lesson series on the Vic Firth website. He clearly integrates everything he teaches into his playing. I definitely still have a lot to learn from this man.
Not very musical??? this is a lot more musical solo... solo of contrasts in sound, a lot of dynamics and a personal touch.... much different from many others, which are based on technique... it's about contrast and expression in every step... This is very very interesting solo... It's like a conversation between all the sounds of his drums... And it's more than musical...Regrettably people nowadays prefer technique over expression.. but still there are guys like Dom and Erskine... ;)
Compared to big name drummers like Weckl, Famularo's complexity does not match Weckl. On the other hand, Dom's emotions and showmanship beats any other drummer alive. That makes him totally unique.
IN MY OPINION he is the most amazing drummer i have ever seen. i was fortunate enough to see him clinic and i was floored. and hes like 50! anyway please dont reply to this if ur just going to tell me that hes not the best and tell me the name of sme other drummer who would "kick his ass"... hes the best in MY OPINION. so chill out
Indeed. He got this particular style of drumming that make him so unique, in fact, he's one of the best in town! Really like the way he drums! In the DVD of my Mapex drum set, he's the one how explains how to set the entire thing, relly fun!
