These, and the IBM's at Hannaford's (Leominster, MA), are the only places I've come acrosss them. I believe Hope Depot here might still have the NCR's, but I remember them going away, so I'm not sure.
I may come across as something of a technologically misinformed imbecile here, but these sorts of contraptions never cease to amaze me. I'm a sucker for convenience, I guess (my waste line can attest to this fact).
I never said they were less accurate. The bag stations are scan, bag, next. The belt ones are a bit more work, as you got to chase the items down and then bag them later. This takes extra time, and as fast as I shop, it's a lot.
@Balarick Recently, some Stop & Shops have been installing Bag type self checkouts in addition to the belted ones that they've had for years. They seem to be using both Fujitsu U-Scan Genesis and IBM for these additional selfs. They are geared towards people using Scan-It and are always running in "Unattended Cashier Mode" so you really don't have to bag anything if you don't want to. I personally favor the Stop & Shops that have U-Scan with bag rather than IBM, but IBM is okay too.
Do they have Fujitsu registers up there? Just curious.

@QuietSundayLibrary
I, personally, like the bag station ones, over the conveyer belt versions. Scan, plop, next.

@georgef551 bag type automated registers won't misscan items. it just tells you to rescan.
Stop and Shop has the belt type self scan.

@georgef551 bag type automated also use less space. having the bag at the scanner keeps everything together. they were thinking of people like you.
