Very good job on this tutorial. I've been using Celtx for a while and was going to do a tut for a friend who wanted to know the basics.... no point... this tut does a perfect job. Thx
What would you do if ur character has a flashback...would it be an action or a new sacene? If its a new scene what would u do...would u write ext.school-flashback?
@Filmskra I would make it a separate scene, and here's why: the flashback most likely does not take place in the same place/setting/location as the scene that it happening "in." And one of the jobs a script has to do it help the production team lay out the production and create a schedule and a budget.
If your flashback happens in another place, it's helpful if the script denotes this - it will help quite a bit with planning.
@UltimateSavage Narrator is just treated like any other character!
As for the credits, that's not usually something that's mentioned in the script. Unless it's an absolutely vital part of the movie or something. If you really want to ensure the credits are done the way you envision, you could put "Credits appear over the following sequence:" as an action, and then maybe "Credits end." afterwards or something.
Another thing. Someone mentioned about flashbacks. Now in my story, you see flashbacks, but those flashback are not seen earlier in the movie. They are flashbacks of a persons past time. So how would I get round this?
@UltimateSavage Flashbacks are flashbacks. It doesn't matter if the scenes have already been seen in the film, or if they are new footage. I would just put an action that says Flashback to: and then a new scene. Or in the scene description you could put INT. CHURCH (FLASHBACK) - DAY.
There are lots of ways to do it. :)
And sometimes you just write it as a scene and don't put anything about it being a flashback - it might be apparent to the reader/viewer anyways.
@okcomputer Ok thanks! I think I'll right it as a new scene within a scene. It flashes in and out multiple times. So how would I set a timing period on this? As it flashes in and out a few times in quick succession.
@okcomputer well basically, a man is walking and there are bodies on the floor. Being an ex army soldier, he has flashbacks as we see through his eyes. Flashbacks of a similar sight. But when cutting back to us looking at him while he is having the flashbacks, he is still having them as we follow him walking. but always see through his eyes during the flashbacks he has.
@okcomputer Dude you are spot on with the way I was going to set it. But as this is my first ever script, I just want to be a pain to you all and ask for help every 5 minutes haha!
If you are interested in what story I am scipting guys, then I can share a link to my facebook group on it!
Thank you very much. This was extremely helpful.

How can you add the page number to the page?
TKTnetwork 1 month ago
@TKTnetwork Actually, you don't add page numbers to the page. Celtx paginates your document automatically.
To see your script with page numbers, click the "TypeSet/PDF" tab along the bottom of your script (right next to "Script")!

@okcomputer What about a narrator? Also I have the vision of the credits during the first scene.
I am a first timer to all this!

@UltimateSavage Send me an inbox with a snippet from the script - too hard to do here in these small comments.

@UltimateSavage Quickest way:
INT. BUILDING - DAY
There are bodies strewn about the floor. JACK walks cautiously down the hallway. Each step brings back painful memories of his combat duty in Iraq.
Jack looks down at a bloodied body directly beneath his feet. We see the scene through his eyes.
He has a FLASHBACK to Iraq. The scene is nearly identical.
As Jack makes his way down the hall, each view is repeated as a flashback through Jack's eyes.
...
or something along those lines.
