  • Would somebody please tell me how to hook my monotron into Garageband on Mac? I have tried going through the line in audio port / through a fast-track midi / multiple cables, and nothing. What am I doing wrong? Or does it not even work with Mac? I have an IMAC G5. Only 1 year old. Please send response to my youtube page. Thanks. Wes

  • oh yea this must be my new big dream !... what the hell is it ?

  • EPILEPSYYYYYYYYY AAHHHHHH BLAARFHHHFHHGGHHH

  • @123qwerty "BLAARFHHHFHHGGHHH"? Best onomatopoeia i've ever heard! Spilled my milk laughing! Fuck I just did it again :(

  • Wish I could look at a board and see more than green, and start imagining of something more than Zaire Rain Forest.

  • and the third, *hold up four fingers*

  • I have no idea about what you just did, but it was awesome

  • ?????????

  • You are like John Hammer!

  • Please what soldering iron have you ?

  • I think they want you to hack it o.O

  • nice

  • Cool Video, but you're not even a hacker. You're a cracker and yes there is a difference.

  • @dtringler01 That is hacking, not cracking, and yes there is a difference. Cracking would be if this dude would exploit his information of this presently hacked hardware and example would be selling this hacked device for his own gain.

  • @SpecklePattern Cracking does not equate exploitation but instead defines breaking through protective barriers to get to locked-out information or to open up access. Selling that access or info is separate and beside the definition of cracking.

  • @josephknightcom Actually true, my bad, not direct exploitation needed in term cracking, but this is still hacking. Like you say in your message; cracking is "breaking through protective barriers to get to locked-out information or to open up access". In this the maker had the circuit schematics (even made by the manufacturer) ie. he was only re-configuring or re-programming the system: hacking. No unknown barriers or anything were needed to be cracked before re-configuring.

  • @SpecklePattern I wasn't arguing that he was cracking, just that your definition of cracking was wrong. Got to keep the people well informed that not all crackers are criminals. Under your definition they would be.

  • @josephknightcom Actually you originally said "...you're not even a hacker. You're a cracker and yes there is a difference." So sorry if I misunderstood, for you not saying him a cracker. Like I said, that definition was my bad. Was not thinking straight. And this hacking/cracking is quite heavily semantic anyways. Phrase 'You need to hack before you crack that you can hack' can be true. And if you like to inform people, youtube is not very high on the list inform-people-forums ;)

  • @SpecklePattern Nope. You have me confused with @gtringler01. Please look at the names. You're misquoting me. I would never say that.

  • @josephknightcom Whoops :)

  • @SpecklePattern "Cracking would be if this dude would exploit his information...." hmm, posting on Youtube isn't exploiting information?

  • @dtringler01 Well I can safely say that most humans would put posting on youtube as "non-exploiting information" yes. That does not even make sense. So, before you post the continuity of your logic, no, cooking is not exploiting of information either ;)

  • @SpecklePattern Yeahh... I'd say the same but clearly you don't have any logic. So before you continue your post, how about you try to use a computer maybe write some code, when you get good enough try hacking, then, maybe just then, you'll realize that this has nothing to do with it. P.S. posting a video on Youtube is exploiting information. If you don't buy it google the definition of "exploit" and while you're there, find the definition of "cracking" and "hacking".

  • @dtringler01 Funny you mentioned logic. Seemed illogical for me to post you a private message on this pointless matter, but I did.

  • nice!!

  • its a Tron toy :P, really cool

  • that's. so. awesome!

  • maybe you can hack your combover

  • AWESOME!

  • Boring. So not awesome. Wendy Carlos was doing this more than 40 years ago. Listen to the "Switched On Bach" outtakes to see why this is a joke. You might think you'd come up with a whole new set of sounds that nobody has heard before, but the truth is only a very small number of synth patches have any inherent musicality or usefulness. Everything else quickly becomes annoying.

  • @jspartacus Maybe you don't understand the purpose of this video. Allow me to introduce you to the 'title', where it says Monotron 'HACKING', not Monotron 'listening', where the end result isn't as important as the 'process' which is illustrating the benefit of purchasing products from companies that understand the inherent need of many of its consumers to hack things up and repurpose them for their own individual needs. Who cares if it only makes different patterns of waveforms? Get a clue.

  • great job.

  • cool stuff

  • for example you can try to add power core like 1 AA battery and when sound goes outside (for heating etc..) that heat level should regenerate the battery's starving potential then cheap air solutions at homes is possible.

  • You're crazy AWESOME!

    but this is sooo confusing!

  • @ManRossDamn Take an Electronics class that teaches soldering and you get the hang of it pretty fast.

I have only been in mine for 6 months with no background knowledge of this stuff at all and i was able to make this pretty easily.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=CSr8n6-aNZs

  • Well, this is what i call a KORGasm

  • Yeah this guy is fantastic. I love that the thing he was most excited about was the educational potential of Korg's schematic release.

  • damn expensive perf board.

  • well shouldnt you warn the epileptic ppl or something

  • What flashlight?

  • Why is this little guy so expensive? 60 bucks? I mean wtf, it's only made of about 4 IC chips and some connectors and resistors/capacitors. Why does it cost so much?

  • @s0nnyburnett said "Why is this little guy so expensive? 60 bucks? I mean wtf, it's only made of about 4 IC chips and some connectors and resistors/capacitors. Why does it cost so much?"

Make the VLSI chips yourself, (to keep it small), fabricate and assemble it into a consumer-sturdy product, ship it to America, and make a profit at $25 per boxed unit delivered to the shipping docks. The rest of the $60 is shipping/distributor markup and retail markup.Sell one for less.Go ahead, I dare ya :-)

  • @MrDorkusMaximus Challenge accepted.

  • @s0nnyburnett Dood, if you can do it, I will bow to your godlyke abilities, and I will buy one from you, just because you could pull it off. :-)

  • fokin hackers

  • Wow.. I just found my most fav channel. Cant wait to browse through everything OMG

  • instead of sound to light show, light to sound! XD

  • seizer waring

  • epilepsy warning plz!!! yet awsome to know thanks cool shit

  • I wish I could understand this stuff but I smoke too much weed so ill just get more high and listen to your bitchen sounds man

  • @trolleeeee Funny. I smoke weed in order to DO this stuff. It helps me try new things or maybe just not care about blowing something up.

  • @trolleeeee Weed doesn't impair learning, nor does it impair intelligence. I realize that you're joking, but you're still inadvertently contributing to the misconceptions.

  • @IPlayInBeastMode srlsy? im smoking Weed for 6 years now and I can tell u: you lose intrest in stuff.. and your concentration span gets shortend alot... there are so many more examples of what it does to you.. I dont care bc i still have my hobbies, work and friends but I have a buddy who just practicly let life go.. droped out of school and all that bad stuff that u hear in a anti-drugg comercial.

  • @trolleeeee and maaaan what a buzz..

  • Just one questions remains! What the big black bar at the right of the video????

  • Where do you get the black perfboard?

  • but the question remains,

    will it blend

  • @sinupinginaaber That is the QUESTION! lol

  • I just love the noisy ending. :D

  • How about hacking a PS3? ... George Hotz has some problems right now.

  • i want one too...

  • SO COOL.

  • i had a seizure at 4:48

  • Wire connections are nice to have, that is how I build, harvest them from electronics than reuse them in my projecs :)

  • ok you can hack it but not sell it hacked , companies want to have all right reserved but hack for self is permited

  • Pensa che bello farci un concerto!

  • Che grandi!

  • How come i always have problems watching videos from MakeMagazine on youtube?

  • its people like this that make nerd cool.

  • I just heard that old Apple computers came with schematics. It's kind of ironic that now the company is the polar opposite of what it used to be- threatening those who wish to modify their own apple stuff with lawsuits up the wazoo

  • ahh i wanna be cool too lol.

  • man ur awesome

  • i still think kipkay is cooler, sorry lol =/

  • @lilnickgamer7411

what's the last cool thing that kipkay made??

he use to be good then he started making junk and adverts... this actually teaches you something >:|

  • "sumone maybe make a how to video about it..."

LOL this IS the how to :P

  • Love it, but epilepsy warning NEEDED!!!

  • last bit is the best

  • amazing vid, but seriously add a little epilepsy disclaimer at the beginning

  • Now make an arduino MIDI project that will send CV/GATE to the monotron ;-). I love your prpjects!

  • What did you use to do the strobe effect?

  • Collin, you're the best guy on youtube in electronics :)

  • wow didnt knew it was that hackable! I knows its expensive though... >.<

  • Got kind of excited to maybe try this until I saw the cost of a Monotron. Seriously my face was frozen like this for 5min -> :O I couldn't imagine paying $60 + for that. Maybe $40.

  • oh my friend, this is an amazing post, thank you very much

  • You should perhaps add epilepsy warning In front of video :P

  • +1

  • to make it even better than what it already is!

  • why wuold anyone want to hack one of those, they are so good already.

  • @rroge5 to make them better :D

  • @knoxianpanda i want to see 1 example of that. and making it voltage controlled is not a improvment.

  • so thats how they make techno music

  • You are so awesome!!

  • I really hope Collin doesn't read some of these troll comments...I love his videos. YouTube comments are really making me question my already dwindling faith in humanity, it just proves that at least half the people alive are really stupid.

  • You are awsome man!

  • i want kipkay :(

  • Great video Colin! It gave me an idea for an upcoming project!

  • Awesome. Nuff said.

  • KKKIIIIPPPPKKKAAAAAYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You should start the video like Swedish House Mafia One :D

  • Omg That's Jim Carey xD

  • monotron=simple megatron!

  • monotron=megatron's son! XD

  • kipkays weeke3nd projects suck he saves every good project for his own channel i personaly want bre pettis back

  • MORE KIPKAY!!! >_>

  • YAY!!! more Collin!!!

  • co za asy

  • @MrGameboy1989 Not here, dear.

  • I was kinda "meh" until the photo cell bit then I was all :).

  • lol at the strobe light!

  • Thanks, now I don't have to wonder where those animations/cartoons get their weird sound effects...

  • could you post the link to the circuit?

  • now you and have an epilecptic sizure with mental sounds in the background :P

  • infact hes basically fucking identical lol

  • he looks like the guy in the wheelchair that can suck his own dick in scary movie 2

  • awesome

  • Sounds more like a fart to me.

  • good hack...

  • Collin, love your vids, keep it up!

  • Hey they are smart! I'm definitely buying one of these and hacking it :D

  • it was boring until u used the photocells , that was cool

  • 5:33 SEIZURE TIME!!!

  • damn bro, i got a seizure.

  • hah i <3 this guy

  • I feel dumb watching this haha I have no idea what the balls he is talking about. But the light controlled thing is sickk

  • Great vid, Collin!

  • ahh man that is so cool

  • 4:31 - 4:52 SEIZURE TIME!! :D
