  • You guys are amazing. Extremely well done.

  • Wow! that tequnique of singing is a lost art? I haven't heard in a long time since i was a very small kid, just hearing brings memory back of listening to my great uncles playing around. in the hills of West Virginia. Aloha u two for put this video out.

  • Wonderful

  • are you guys twins

  • You Guys are awesome!!! Best version i have ever heard. Yall should do more old country ballads.

  • this is so good! sorry i couldnt pay you guys for it, but i totally put this on my ipod.

  • I'm writing a book and the movie that comes out will be for not if you guys aren't in it to sing this song. Keep up the good work hope to meet you some day =)

  • I am from the Appalachian highlands, the original source of this song; I have literally heard it all my life. This is one of the most original and impressive interpretations I have ever heard. The throat singing gives Death a creepy vibe that is unique and wonderful. Together with the straight singing, it is astonishing. Kudos!

  • POPEYE? That's funny

  • This is awesome. My kids are amazed by both your voices!

  • PERFECTLY Controlled Harmonics!!!!!

  • great. love the throat singing kyle, and luke you have a great voice. has anybody ever told you that you look like matt hughes? :)

  • I don't know why but as soon as he started the throat singing I started laughing uncontrollably. I mean it's good, I don't know I just started giggling

  • A very interesting take on a very interesting song. All in all, I like it.

  • Stumbled across this, but beautiful and amazing. You are very talented!

  • wow he does sound like a creepy popeye!

  • they ae amazing! wow!

  • love this song, and love throat singing, you guys killed it!! is that kargyraa and chemej your singing?

  • This has to tie with the vintage issue by Ralph Stanley , Wonderfully haunting, and a pleasure to listen to. The throat singing gives it an extra edge. All other versions are far behind...

  • This is absolutely beautiful. I have no other words. Both of you have such great voices... <3

  • OMG i have the chills!

  • Hey, I've always been really interested in Tuvan .... Does it hurt? How does it affect your singing voice??

    You guys sound great!!!

  • @TitaniusAnglesmith1 haven't you ever heard of the movie 'O brother where art thou'?

and yes. I understand that it's an old song... but the one that everyone pretty much knows is the one Ralph Stanley sang on the movie. Not your cover. it was good.

It was just that the 'throat singing' scared me a bit.

I was just commenting on THIS VERSION... and how I like the faster and more upbeat version a bit better.

I DON'T WATCH MUCH TV, NOR HAVE I EVER EVEN SEEN A TV GUIDE IN MY LIFE

  • setting: desert landscape with moutians on the horizon. middle of the night by a campfire. yeah.

  • Very nice would you pleace tell me the chords

  • I hate this version. :/

I like the actual version from the album.

this is more like the version from the movie.

    not a bad try though...

    well except for popeye.

  • it gives me chills =))

  • This is frickin awesome.. I've seen some throatsinging before, but this combination was awesome, I'd pay to see a show performed by you two guys, that's how much I liked it.

  • That whistling is actually coming from the throat singer.

    I know. Awsome.

  • Congratulations on the sheer weirdness of this.

  • "ancient Western ballad" =/= Appalachian dirge of unknown origin.

Appalachian = The Appalachian Mountains ( or ), often called the Appalachians, are a vast system of mountains in Eastern-North America. (Eastern-North)

Dirge = A poem of grief or lamentation, especially one intended to accompany funeral or memorial rites. Sidelight: In contrast to an elegy, the principle aim of the dirge is to lament the dead, rather than to console survivors. (See also Epitaph, Monody).

  • This is a very unique and cool version of this song. There is good and bad throat singing, but this guy and the lead singer have a real talent. These old songs can touch your soul if you have an open mind, for those of you that think it "sucks" go listen to your standard cookie cutter pop songs and leave this to those of us that can appreciate something different.

  • @TheMichaelDenny ya lets eliminate parts of culture because of suckness. which isn't a word

  • @mamothmanX I agree. If it sucks, it should be removed. Why the hell would you keep something that achieves epic level suckification? "Throat singing" sounds like the noise my 3 year old nephew makes when he is playing with his hot wheels. It sounds completely ridiculous, because it is.

  • @TheMichaelDenny

And you're listening to it because...?

  • @godleighton Because I was looking for the Ralph Stanley version and stumbled across this fiasco. Same reason most people caught it.

  • @TheMichaelDenny

lol Thanks for the straight answer. Don't get that too often.

  • He does sound like Popeye

  • Such a beautiful meeting of two completely different approaches of music.

  • Incredible treatment for a great folk song. Bravo.

  • One word...EPIC

  • Sick version reminds me of oh brother where art thow version with more depth!

  • wow, awesome! i like the throat singing, definately adds a cool feeling to it :)

  • you guys should do a CD or something you have a great gift this is so far my favorite version of this song

  • This is one of my favorite songs...you 2 have some awesome talent! Its beautiful, creepy, and still soothing all at the same time....those factors normally dont work out together as nicely! Very well done!

  • Nice work guys... got me working on a version to see if I can accompany it on a DADAAD tuning for the drone effect. Thanks for the inspiration :-)

  • BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! (SUCKS)

yesterdays show umbrella from resident evil + frammed for murder = A DAM

  • the abbotts,, they related to those from the young and the restless

  • Can you send me the chords?

I can tell it's mostly E and G, but it would be most appreciated if you could send 'em!

    Thanks!

  • @tabguy14 Yeah, mostly Em with some G thrown in. You can do many things with chords... I prefer to play it not so much with chords but with heavy bass notes that more *suggest* chords than define them. So mess around and see what works. Have fun with it! ~Luke

  • I found this beautiful...There is such a visceral quality to throat singing....I think it makes great since here...

  • I don't find this the least bit creepy.

It's awesome. I just sit n' vibe with it..

And I've listened to it about 30x lol

And I took a couple lyrics from it for my

Myspace headline and forum signature. :D

Also, lol @ the calendar falling! xD

  • I almost jumped from my chair when the bass guy started singing. Sounds great but creepy.

  • if you let the video stopped at 0:00, the guy on the blue shirt will see into your soul :/

  • After watching this for the first time all I could think was "why hasn't anyone thought of doing that before" Throat singing the part of Death is genius. Good job by both of you, though I would say the throat singing needs a little work to really put it over the top.
