I had the cd of the College Boyz,,,,there only two of them that is still doin somethin today,,that Romany Malco of The 40 year Old Virgin,Weeds,,and No Ordinary Family etc. and Dj Clue
I was 15 back then... Yeah, I might be kinda old, haha. I still say: Rap's dead since the middle of the '90s. College Boyz are one of the true, authentic hip-hop heros...
yep. started as rappin - first name for group was RMG named for the last names of the members and then moved from Baytown Texas to L.A. and changed the name to the College Boyz. Did pretty well and then Rom got into acting. Big ups Rom, Squeaky and Curtis!
@leafsboy101 I was wondering why in the world did they take him off the show? I've really haven't been watching it. He's on abc now on this show called no ordinary family.
@leafsboy101 you're welcome. He's really shown that he has another talent besides rapping. Some rappers just need to stick to rapping, but this boy can act. They relocated the family on weeds and I guess decided not to take the black people with them. And I haven't been in tuned in awhile. If it wasn't for Dexter I'd probably cancel my subscription to show time.
Get the hell outta here!!!I used to love them back in the day.....and are just now seeing this video for the 1st time in 15 years dayum near and had nooooo idea that was Roman Malco!! LOL!!!
Every time I see Romany Malco in a new movie or TV show, I think about this song and say to myself "This nigga didn't take his own advice...... he straight went Hollywood!" LOL! Naw, but anyway, I'm glad to see my nigga doing big thangs! I remember bumping "Radio Fusion Radio" back when I was in high school when I got my first car.
Holy shit I never knew that, even after watching the video again I didn't stop to think that he looks familiar. I had a friend growing up that looked like this dude and always thought of him when I saw the video. That's trippy.
I used to go to chabot with Raven The Producer Back in the 80 dekka, he used to bring his crates to the class room and I would tell him what to sample.
1) They didn't push THIS single as they did their debut single "Victim Of The Ghetto" (probably on coincidence considering how terrifying real and sad the content is). And so, being the underground advocate I was (and still am), I snatched up the single out of curiosity. It was one of the VERY FIRST singles released after Virgin's acquisition by EMI. And so, this is my VERY FIRST TIME seeing this video.
2) To me, "Hollywood Paradox" (one of the first songs to sample "For The Love Of You" -- probably THE first), is WAY better than "Victim Of The Ghetto". I have so many memories of when I was making "fat tapes" for myself with this track making the second or third one.
3) I KNEW when I saw Malco recently (most specifically, when I saw his portrayal of MC Hammer in a TV movie -- he favors him BAD) that I knew him from somewhere. Who would have thought the COLLEGE BOYZ?
I couldnt put my finger on it when I saw him in 40 year old virgin I knew he looked familiar and i just so happen to google College Boyz and it hit me......I still love this song. This was a summer 92 banger.
I was thinkin about the College Boyz and how the black guy in the 40yr Old Virgin looked like him--it is him!! Haha! I'm happy 4 him. He's cute too. I had just got out of hi school (c/o '90), fun times!!
LOL, same here. I seen Romany in a few movies and I was like, "Yo, this cat looks familiar. I know I seen him somewhere outside of movies." It wasn't until recently that I found out he was dude from The College Boyz. I remember them brothas from the early 90s.
Yes It's a sample from the Isley Brothers, many rappers used it. I always loved thi song, College Boyz were so underrated. I loved that first album "Radio Fusion Radio"
My wife has this cassette in the box of old CDS and tapes. Haha, so the dude is the actor now. I gotta tell her. This was a tight album. getting very old mayne.
the sample is from the isley brothers. a great group. I believe the song is called "living for the love of you"...at least thats part of the lyrics...lol
does any1 know if tupac sampled this song to "bury me a G" on his resurrection cd? It's so weird that that is one of mah favorite songs on that cd and i find out that it's sampled off of romany. I didn't even know the dude from 40 year old virgin rapped. I was just lookin him up and said he was a top selling rap artist in the early 90's. no doubt someone who knows about classic hip hop. I heard a funny christmas track on myspace/music search for Penny Records presents Russ da Legend. Holiday Pimpin
Romany Malco is awesome, College Boyz has be sampled by two of the greatest rapper of our time Nas and Tupac...plus he's funny as hell and The Pest soundtrack kicked all kinds of ass just this song is kinda ironic.
It's kinda funny how this guy raps directly about the troubles of Hollywood, and now he's a successful part of Hollywood. He's certainly come a long way.
WOW, this 1 give me the chill, thx 4 posting this, gives me some serious flash-backs of the 90's. I've searched 4 this many times but was not able to find it. BIG PROPS PARTNA!!!
Romany Malco still looks the same lol

So many things come together about this track.

Hahaha..he does look EXACTLY the same.
On the audio commentary for '40 Year Old Virgin' he breaks down a little history of the group.

Romany Malco is awesome, College Boyz has be sampled by two of the greatest rapper of our time Nas and Tupac...plus he's funny as hell and The Pest soundtrack kicked all kinds of ass just this song is kinda ironic.

I remember when Video Jukebox played this constantly. There was a lot of truth in this song. The last verse killed me though:
"Living like an Oreo, riding on the white man's dick."
I hope he doesn't fall into the paradox.

It's kinda funny how this guy raps directly about the troubles of Hollywood, and now he's a successful part of Hollywood. He's certainly come a long way.
