Nunchaku's are only effective against humans. They will do you no good against Chuck Norris. His masseuse uses nunchaks at full speed on his back to settle him down after fights.
Being an engineer i made a pair of prochux perfectly balanced as Master Barden has shown them to be. Hand rolls are easy but how can you do wrist rolls, finger rolls and ferris wheels with such a short cord seems to me its just a stick thats why its easy to control.

Also check out the dan inosanto video of him using some nunchaku.

What is wrong with you people? This is about Chux. Plesae stay on topic. If you don't like what you see here, there are thousands of videos with people doing much less with the chux, that might make a little better sense to you. Something you can understand better.
I remember seeing a news piece on TV one time and being surprised to see a police officer leading a demonstrator away by putting some kind of pinch hold on his arm or wrist with nunchuks. The guy was in great pain, and the officer had no problem leading him along.
First of all, us 'yank' martial artists are not fat, we are built like westerners. Its amazing how tall and muscular one's build can be when not raised on a diet of fish and rice. Secondly, prochux are designed for speed and ease of control, to train freestyle and technique, lets see you do these moves with something as big as your wrist. And trust me, these things HIT as hard as any normal nunchaku.
I would disagree, but I guess it is all dependent on what you are used to. I prefer a longer chain (chain swivel) because I have more control over them. In reality it is all personal preference.

@tybilly You can freestyle with any kind of chucks you want. When I was a kid I would use homemade chucks. The chucks in this video have a shorter cord than traditional Okinawan Nunchaku. The shorter cord might be more suited for free style. But I say, use what you have.
@foolsbetrippin, I am not sure that I understand your post, it does not seem very well thought out. MMA is a MIX of all martial arts, that is the idea. The first major martial art to gain control of MMA was Brazilian Jui Jitsu. If you really want proof that martial arts are effective for combat, then take up Japanese Iiado, or Filipino Arnis and Escrima knife and hand to hand combat arts. If you really believe that martial arts are for dummies then tell the SEALS, Marine Force RECON that.

actually I found the hand rolls are actually easier with the string long enough to wrap around the hand. Since I've started with the Prochux I'm having a hard time doing the hand rolls without them flying away from me. But they sure are a lot faster than my old dino chux!
RE: Handroll. I believe that means you are not spinning fast enough. With the longer chains you can use less force and allow the links to bend around your wrist. With the Prochux you need to create enough circular speed to bring them around before they drop... which is what you'd be doing with the regular chucks anyway if you want to get that elegant roll (where it almost looks as though the chucks are suspended mid-air whilst they spin).

I got one aluminium chucks (don't recommend those, too light and wooden ones are much more comfortable), a pair of "hard-wood", dunno what kind of wood that is, but it's DEFINITELY HARD..hehe..
propably best ones I got are the octagon shaped, made from rosewood if I remember right, the original japanese style chucks without any ball bearings and such.. VERY heavy.
I've been thinking of the same thing, my chucks are all with chain.. would like to try with short string chucks..faster probably.

of course they are real chucks. chucks can be broom handles hooked together with a showlace. they can 2" diameter octagon shaped pieces of oak, or solid aluminum the size of drum sticks hooked with paracord. i guess what i'm getting at is it's an extension of your hand, like most weapons. at the very beginning all he was doing was basic diagonal strikes, fore and backhand. very practical. the flare stuff is mainly used for coordination and getting comfortable with the weapon.

I remember seeing a news piece on TV one time and being surprised to see a police officer leading a demonstrator away by putting some kind of pinch hold on his arm or wrist with nunchuks. The guy was in great pain, and the officer had no problem leading him along.

First of all, us 'yank' martial artists are not fat, we are built like westerners. Its amazing how tall and muscular one's build can be when not raised on a diet of fish and rice. Secondly, prochux are designed for speed and ease of control, to train freestyle and technique, lets see you do these moves with something as big as your wrist. And trust me, these things HIT as hard as any normal nunchaku.

I would disagree, but I guess it is all dependent on what you are used to. I prefer a longer chain (chain swivel) because I have more control over them. In reality it is all personal preference.

@tybilly You can freestyle with any kind of chucks you want. When I was a kid I would use homemade chucks. The chucks in this video have a shorter cord than traditional Okinawan Nunchaku. The shorter cord might be more suited for free style. But I say, use what you have.

The first major martial art to gain control of MMA was Brazilian Jui Jitsu. If you really want proof that martial arts are effective for combat, then take up Japanese Iiado, or Filipino Arnis and Escrima knife and hand to hand combat arts. If you really believe that martial arts are for dummies then tell the SEALS, Marine Force RECON that.

My initial inst were Chinese students attending IIT here in Chicago back in the late '70s. To ans question, YES, I've met and worked out with Army Airborne, Marines, SEALS, and RECON. And? So what? What does that have to do with anything? They are American's, and so am I. Would be hard not to "meet" one. All leverage techniques from many martial arts.

actually I found the hand rolls are actually easier with the string long enough to wrap around the hand. Since I've started with the Prochux I'm having a hard time doing the hand rolls without them flying away from me. But they sure are a lot faster than my old dino chux!

RE: Handroll. I believe that means you are not spinning fast enough. With the longer chains you can use less force and allow the links to bend around your wrist. With the Prochux you need to create enough circular speed to bring them around before they drop... which is what you'd be doing with the regular chucks anyway if you want to get that elegant roll (where it almost looks as though the chucks are suspended mid-air whilst they spin).

I got one aluminium chucks (don't recommend those, too light and wooden ones are much more comfortable), a pair of "hard-wood", dunno what kind of wood that is, but it's DEFINITELY HARD..hehe..
propably best ones I got are the octagon shaped, made from rosewood if I remember right, the original japanese style chucks without any ball bearings and such.. VERY heavy.
I've been thinking of the same thing, my chucks are all with chain.. would like to try with short string chucks..faster probably.

Shortening the chain or rope increases speed and handling when spinning over the back of the hand.
Nice to see someone actually hitting something with them. I hate the flippy whippy demo shit with absolutely no practical application to defense.
Unfortunately the real fighting aspect is always lumped in with beginners material, as if fighting with them is basic and fipping them around on fire is the advanced ninja training.

of course they are real chucks. chucks can be broom handles hooked together with a showlace. they can 2" diameter octagon shaped pieces of oak, or solid aluminum the size of drum sticks hooked with paracord. i guess what i'm getting at is it's an extension of your hand, like most weapons. at the very beginning all he was doing was basic diagonal strikes, fore and backhand. very practical. the flare stuff is mainly used for coordination and getting comfortable with the weapon.

If you were looking at what he was doing instead of looking only to be critical, you would have seen the difference. this man does have a point about holding the chuck in the ready position, but the fact that he uses chucks that would shatter wen used against a forearm block says something. a short strung chuck has its uses but so does long chain. ever seen bruce lee? enough said.

I know bc i found the Prochux from the distributer, its cheap wood. with a low janka hardness, Prochux is a brand name for the specific nunchaku used in this video, in order to break a bone you should have a janka hardness of over 1800, more if you have banes that are trained with iron body t
