Interesting concept . I would like to have seen some of the Dutch & German country overflown by 617 in 43! Noticed quite high over dams, are they "sensitive" perhaps even still considered targets today?
Wondering if I should re-fly Operation Jericho in a Seneca! I don't think the Dutch would mind.
@kyberwolf I was stationed at Scampton so certain I do know where it is and how to spell it. Your spelling, grammar, punctuation and lack of capitalisation speak for themselves. We can only speculate how the people of Lincolnshire, RAF Scampton and Lincoln in particular will view your contribution to the comments section, so poorly written and void of meaningful or useful content that it is.
Bloody brilliant well done ,I drove my old Landrover over the top of the Mohne Dam in 1993 and wrote an article in Landrover Owner Magazine about my trip.Returning to the dam in 2004 I,ve found that retractable bollards had been installed to stop any other unautherised vehicles doing the same, ironic really when the dam was rebuilt anti bouncing bomb defenses were installed!
fantastic idea,i think steves idea of noting the sites where the lads crashed is another perfect plan .if you can manage to do it all again .again congrats on a germ of a thought created into something all of us would give our right arm to do
Thinking about doing again and incorperating some of the ideas I have received, just need to recruit some willing cost sharing crew members. Anyone know a good navigator!
I enjoyed the video and had considered doing this myself having acquired the flightplan from the Public Record Office.
Sorry to be an anorak but you should correct the spelling of Barnes Wallis' surname and I'm wondering wha found the cutting room floor and why you did not start from Scampton?
If you do it again some thought might also go to the sites of those who did not return and particulatly the gallant Hopgood perhaps. The human spirit never ceases to amaze! Well done!
Steve. Thanks for the comments. So annoyed at having mis spelled his name. Such a basic error. Tnx for pointing it out. Have corrected the descriptive text but cannot re edit the video. Loads on the cutting room floor if you want it contact me. Had originally planned to follow the route they took but far to much controlled airspace along the way now to make it any fun. Starting from Scampton though...now there's a thought. Bugger! Wonderful thing hindsight.
Hi village bobby. I really liked the video (Band of brothers soundtrack?), particularly the views of the dams. It was certainly a great idea and I dare you to to do the Kiel canal next! I am in awe of how they managed to get there at 0 altitude. You can see how difficult that would have been with your shots of the Eder, they must have dived at it only to climb hard to miss the hill on the other side. Best of luck with any future ideas and well done!
Hi Kikque. Thanks for nice comments. It was a lot of fun. I never dipped below 500feet while flying the dams and even from that hieght the difficulties they faced became apparent, and they did it at night. Not for the faint hearted. Dead right about the music at beginning and end. Needed something suitable without flogging the Dambusters March to bits so that seemed to fit the bill. Glad you enjoyed it. Regards, VB
Thanks for the kind comments. I have been on holiday and only just found them. I have abridged it down a bit to fit youtube but it conveys what we did. We talk about another trip but have no firm plans yet and you are the second person to ask. Send me your e-mail address and we can chat about it. Cost was about £400 each but with inflation of avgas prices I reckon it will be nearer £500 id we do this again.

Well spotted CHBE4674 I like an eye for detail, what did you think of the other 9 minutes and 27 seconds?
