I'll give you guys a tip if you want to hit the middle. Don't aim at the infantry but just a little bit in front of them. Shrapnel mortars are deadly then.
what I don't understand is that if you click whith artillery on infantery, the artillery shoots at the side of the infantery. WHY NOT IN THE MIDDLE!!!!!
@Interdiu historically artillery was incredably inacurate. I have seen a 6lb cannon (modern engineering) being fired for real and you couldn't hit a van at 30ft without devine intervention. Besides, what would you do with all the infantry (code name cannon fodder) if you killed your enemy on advance????
@Tappermccabe the gun itself if properly maintained could be quite accurate! Especially smaller 4 and 6lb longnosed guns! Also alot of guns lean to one side so alot of aiming is understanding your specific gun!
There are old stories of 200 yard shots onto defending windows during sieges, and artillery duels at 300 yards!
@MenOnBirthControl it's ment to be a wet sponge that the crews use inbetween shots to dampen any sparks before they load in the powder charge but it can also be used to ram home the charge and shot.
wut i do to protect artillery is i put 2 untis of either skirmishers like longriflemen or jagers in front of the artillery, plant stakes, and leave them there so if a cavalry charge comes you can destroy it with stakes, and if line ifantry come you can keep them busy with your sharpshooters while your cannons fall back
it consists of tieces of wood separing arrais(or whatever it is called) of small canlonballs in round formation so when shot the wood breaks and lets our a rain of small canonbals
at close range case shot is deadly. when you load case shot in you turn the canon into a giant shotgun fireing little musket balls at the opposing side so use it at close range at long range it deals little damage at long range fire round shot.
i remember obliterating an entire calvary unit charging at my cannons with a lucky canister shot, it was magnificent.
