White umbrellas make people look dead, not good. Use a large silver reflector and correct wrinkles and skin blemishes in Photoshop. Normal healthy skin does have a certain amount of moisture content, so some small degree of sheen is normal and healthy looking. Matte flat looking skin and eyes are not normal.
Contrary to video (1:08), a black background on a translucent white umbrella does not actually reflect any additional lighting back onto the subject. Instead, the black backing simply absorbs any light which would normally pass through the white translucent material. If you truly want to gain that light intensity back, your umbrella must have an interior which is both more reflective and less translucent - such as an umbrella with a non-translucent white plastic or rubber interior.
Could u explain a bit more on the sizes of the softbox? How do i determine which size to use, let's say for a group photo of 5~10 ppl (full body), thanx in advance.
I know nothing about Portrait Photograhy and bought a used Canon 20D, 85mm 1.2L Lens, and an Opteka EF-600 DG Super Flash form Ebay. What other lighting equipment do I need to buy from Ebay. I'm so confused. Gold / Silver / White Umbrellas, Strobe Lights and Continious Lights. What umbrella, softbox and lights do I need?
I use the white umbrellas with my lights and I like them.

Yeah you're a racist idiot. Keep hiding behind your anonymity, coward. But you can't hide forever... watch and see. Watch and see.

Don't ask racist questions and you will not get racist answers, it's that simple...
And wtf is that question anyway, why wouldn't anyone photograph black people?

@stewartx5 I was going to say the same thing. I use the black on my umbrellas when I want to prevent spill.

@stewartx5 I was about to write the same thing you did. An outer cover that is silvered would reflect some of the light back through.

We all age eventually and wil need the softer light. You can also do some fixing in pp with software. Of course that take time.

I agree, this video doesn't really talk about the various umbrella colors or types of bulbs used for them.
