  • YES!!!! I haven't heard this in ages and taped off of Night Tracks the video show that I tuned into many a Friday and Saturday night as a kid!!!!

  • This was bruce springsteen before bruce springsteen

  • This song is the best. I love listening to this all night on repeat. It brings out such great emotion. Also a great make out song lol.

  • My mother sang this to me when I was a baby so I would fall asleep. It brings back memories.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !

  • wendall newton is awesome!!

  • Hey, can I have that Les Paul you're playing John?...i promise I'll take good care of it!!!

  • the most awsome band in history im 40 and miss u john

  • bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce. oh wait a minute my mistake. lol

  • So Eddie willson was just a actor oh shit i thought Eddie Willison was the Original person that made this song oh will i really don't know what happen to this singer John Cafferty so what really did happen to this singer John Cafferty?

  • John and the band hit #31 in Billboard, 1-12-85. Were Michael Pare's vocals even tried for the film? I'll bet he could've sung himself. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • John Cafferty had a real knack for turning Bruce Springsteen's sound into great pop.

  • seven people are lost???

  • John Cafferty is so good, so sexy, singing this song, and with so much soul.Oh to be young again...makes me think of when i was younger, better times.....i'm 47 now, and how i wish i could go back in time-but i can't get all those good times back, i can't get my youth back.........so sad.........but that's life.................

  • perfect

  • how come they have acoutsitc covers but no saxaphone covers!?!?!!? its personally my favorite part of the song!

  • love the saxaphone and piano ! Brings back a lot of memories!

  • i love this song

  • The only thing that burns my hide is that they cut the very tail end off the video. What you don't see is the piano player take a long drag of the cigarette, take it out of his mouth, stare up into space, and wistfully exhale the smoke, so worldly wise, a moment remembering the lost past.

    It was perfect!

I dearly hope someday someone finds and posts a copy of this video in it's entirety. That last little bit is too good to lose.

  • i played this for my grandmother at her funeral,

she loved this song (the saxaphone and the piano were her favorites),

she raised me from a baby and she died the day after mother's day,

    happy mother's day mom-mom,

i love you and miss you,

    god bless you =')

  • @thomasbaron06 My Mom passed shortly after Mothers Day in 2009. We were lucky to be able to prepare. She told me in no uncertain terms that all she wanted was for me to be happy. Anyone who loves anyone wants nothing more. I was lucky because my Mom was able to tell me. Rest assured, your grandmother wanted the same. God bless you and your family.

  • @thomasbaron06 it sounds like your grandmother had pretty good taste in music..

That was very cool of you to play it at her funeral... I rate that as awesome!!

Tender years is a forever song..

  • @billrock12 yeah, she loved Eddie and the Cruisers (John Cafferty),

what i thought was very... (idk the word,),

me and my grandfather and one of my cousins were in the cafeteria the day she passed away in the hospital and "On The Dark Side" just started playing over the speaker right as my aunt walked in to tell us she was going

  • @thomasbaron06 Oh, gosh that's so sad. I've been just crying about everything today and then read your post and teared up all over again. God Bless, Vickie from Oklahoma.

  • Reminds me of my ex old lady n that cant be good but why do I still treasure it!!!

  • Damn Tunes can blow a mean sax. I can listen to him over and over. I don't know why these guys didn't take off better than they did. I love a good guitar picker but to have a good horn section man that just makes it all sound that much better. Thanks for posting this one.

  • I don't get why these guys didn't hit the top of the charts. They are so good!

  • @WeWantJobs I am gonna guess because Bruce Springsteen flooded the market with this sound. I still head On The Darkside on the radio around me

  • This song should have been nominated for the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1983.

  • AFTER READING MOST OF THE COMMENTS DID ANYONE EVER SEE HIM AT THE FAST LANES IN AP??? COME ONE PEOPLE EDDIES AND THE CRUISERS WAS GOOD BUT ......

  • Its like yesterday watching him play at the Fast Lanes in Asbury Park......So glad I got to talk with him and have a song played just for me..AWWW to young again the things I would do over knowing what I know NOW.....

  • i played this song all day and everyday for my boyfirend an he told me this makes him hard lol then we had SEX

  • esos años no vuelven señores, solo en nuestra mente. donde quiera que estes, esta es para ti, 12 años despues.

  • I must have watched that movie a thousand times, without exageration, but it wasnt until today that I found out the the sax player , in Eddy and the Cruisers, is the same guy as in Beaver Brown Band. In that whole movie, he never said a line, but, I guess when you have this much talent , you really dont need to speak.

  • I love how Wendell is on sax :) lol

  • @Shananaigans12 Thats cause Wendell is really in that Band see They Used wendell In eddie and the cruisers for the soul reason he was part of the band that made the music to eddie and the cruisers

  • Memories do last a life time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank God Something Good Does :D

  • first song i got layed too

  • it really looks like the stone pony is where they are playing. its way too dark to tell for sure though. awesome.

  • Saw John Cafferty and his band in concert many years ago in my home town....fantastic!

  • john cafferty. is way better than spinstien. john lives his music. you can feel it

  • @feltedricky I'm looking at the comment I "posted" once I saw your reply. For one, I know how to spell Springsteen, second, I don't ever remember commenting on this video, lastly, my grammar was terrible. I came to the conclusion that my little sister must have been on my computer and commented. Anyhow, sorry about that.

  • Sweet memories of my first real love....*sigh*

  • these guys listened to "the promied land" way too much, ...this a flat out rip off right up to Clarences sax melody to kick the song off....

  • The '80's may have come and gone, but that time from the '60's through the '80's were better than anything coming out today!!!!! And that's the facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I think I might see if I can arrange for this to be played at my funeral.

  • This Bryce Springsteem and the B Avenue Gang's best song! Is it new?

  • @JacksonHammerstein , ha ha, thats funny, but you are correct, lol, this whole band along with eddie and cruisers just so reminds you of springsteen huh? the feeling is mutual

  • @cansecoisgod yeah, even wikipedia describes them as such:

They achieved their greatest fame when they performed the music of a "Springsteen-esque" fictional band in the 1983 movie Eddie and the Cruisers.

  • @KJ0012 This is better than anything SPRINGSTEEN does.

  • OOOOOOOooooooooOoOOoOOooooOOoooohhhhHHHhyyYYYeeEEaaAahhhhh

  • It's too bad most people actually thought it was a real band Eddie And The Cruiers singing these song, and not John Cafferty.

  • i cant understand what everyone is talking about i think john cafferty has more heart than springsteen ever had he just didnt have the look that the bos had and i personally like john cafferty better and cant understand how they didnt make as far as bruce springsteen

  • great song

  • This is AMERICAN ROCK & ROLL AT IT's BEST !!! EXCELLENT POST , I was in High School when this came out and it's even better today, than it was then.

  • Strauss, Duncan (1987). "Cafferty Does Spooky Simulation of Springsteen." Los Angeles Times. October 20.

OMG : This is sooo Bruce Springsteen.

  • The saxophone makes my throat swell with memories of Mandi

  • Damn, i lllllike this song=) Mr Tiger

  • KROY 1240 AM Sacramento, CA 1984 ... We missed 'ya!!!

  • Im no pretty boy, but this is when musicians were ugly but their music was timeless, cant say that nowadays

  • Just brilliant band music with perfect vocals. True 80's rock... No wonder this was an influence on how Bruce Springsteen wanted the E Street band to sound. If only he would do some covers of John Cafferty.

  • @jobby0709 I think you may have that backwards. Eddie and the Cruisers was based pretty heavily on Springsteen's musical style (with a few other influences thrown in). By the time this song came out, Bruce already had 6 big albums (including Born to Run) and was working on Born in the U.S.A. Still, great song though. =)

  • It seems like just yesterday I saw these guys at the now defunct Last Call Saloon in Providence.

  • Troppo Bella questa canzone! Questa si che è musica...la voce e gli strumenti...poesia e musica vera!

  • Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...Baby!

  • F* he is/was smokin! hot! hot! hot! he IS eddie wilson!

  • he kinda looks like eddie wilson lol

  • WISH WE HAD THIS TODAY

  • This is just as beautiful now as it was way back then. One of the best rock ballads EVER, I think.

  • My first date..."Eddie And The Cruisers" movie when I was like 12. Never got in her pants but still to this day, would love to. Lol!!

  • just LOVE the sax solo...awesome.(miss playin it myself!!haha)

  • I'm a HUGE fan of the movies "Eddie and the Cruisers"..... thanks bunches for posting this original video. I have never seen John Cafferty.... LOVE his music... and what a voice. WOW....

  • Amazing I thought to look up John ....I use to own this album....lol

He did have some great music....what ever happened...time to google....

  • @BobinDallas I still have this record, and the tapes of the sound tracks to both movies. The record release doesnt have the same songs as the tapes. hmm Glad other prople love this song like i do.

  • I was a product of the 50' and 60's and lived throught the awful disco craze. John Cafferty's music was like a breath of fresh air after being in a smoky room. Wish he had had better success.

  • It still looks so weird to me to see John Cafferty and not Michael Paré lol.

  • @BrandonGoll movieand reality can get blured i think its a credit to pare for his eddy wilson portrayal and john cafferty's actual writer singer of the beaver brown band i dont mind bluring a fictional movie with reality its a wonderful compliment to every ones talent on cruisers 1 or 2.

  • Music sucks ass these days here are the reasons i hate living in the time im growin up in sucky ass music expensive as fuck to go 2 a concert my dad told me bak wen he was growin up the most expensive ticker he bout was 17.00 to go see kiss 4 me it cost a arm and a leg and sucky cars i mean have you seen the 60 mustange OMG 2 die 4 and transams cameros firebirds all awesome and we got a shitty ass president back wen cliton was in office everybody had jobs so there are my reasons of hating time

  • This is just good music.Great band

  • thanks mikey, good stuff here!

  • great sax. love this

  • Andrew Dice Clay on drums everybody!!!

  • john cafferty is his own voice......

  • just watched eddie and the cruisers.very awesome song by far

  • I am so happy to see this video again. It has been a long time, and I still love this song.

  • ya god bless the 80's and my youth lol..........

  • hey isnt the sax player the guy who played Windell on Eddie and the Cruisers

  • @21armand Yes. Michael 'Tunes' Antunes from Beaver Brown did play Wendell Newton

  • As good as Springsteen. Just got lost in the world of music. Maybe he was Eddie Wilson

  • These songs kick royal ass!

  • When I hear this great song I cant help but see Eddie Wilson! However I still appreciate John Cafferty.

  • @3larry13 Eddie Wilson and the Crusiers were a made up band for the movie. The people you see on that stage and in the movie are the real thing. When the movie was made, they never gave John Cafferty And The Brown Beaver Band credit. I saw them in the Bloomfest in Alexandria, NJ, and we got seats right up front because nobody had ever heard of John Cafferdy, only the made up name Eddie And The Cruisers.

  • @geassfan112 Thanks for the update, but I'm well aware of the whose who between John Cafferty& Eddie Willson.

  • BEST SONG!!!!!

  • John Cafferty looks like my husband, back in the day. Love his sexy voice!!!!!

  • Why can't they make music like this anymore??? I mean, this is amazing music and an amazing band behind the wheel!!! Raw Talent!!!

  • @5584fox A very simple answer to your question, my friend: A beautiful song like this doesn't stand any chance of "hyping" up anybody; with the today's freaks and masturbaters running wildly on stages nowadays, the younger generations are missing out on true good music!!!

  • @tsprague1 YOUR ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I don't know where Cafferty is exactly from but this sound was definitely born in New Jersey. I love both Sprinsteen AND Cafferty and I'm from SO~CAL HA! Great music! Now this is some great song writing.

  • Love this song... Gonna see John Cafferty live on Sunday.

  • tysm technology ty steve

  • #1 BIGGEST FAN RIGHT HERE!

  • @tsprague1 well springsteen's music is not my cup of tea lol ... but this guy...I like his songs.. I never thought it was spingsteen or thought of springsteen at all when i heard this music. I thought it kinda sounded like Dire Straights though.

  • This was when life was good and things were alittle simpler then they are today,if you don't feel anything when u hear this song and your in your 40's somethings wrong!

  • @rudster2008 I felt something everytime I heard this song when it came out and I was about 6 or 7 HA HA! This song actually made me want to learn how to play the piano. Great movie, great song!

  • @rudster2008 I am in my 40 somethings lol I was in my 20s when this came out actually prob 18 or 19 lots of memories

  • @rudster2008

Summer of 1984, moonlit night on the jersey shore, man, it was pure mystifying magic at the tender age of 16!

  • @rudster2008

Summer of 1984, moonlit night on the jersey shore, man, it was pure mystifying magic at the tender age of 16!

  • MY FAV SONG... WHERE ARE BANDS LIKE THIS NOWADAYS?

  • I live under a rock.......heard this stuff before and thought it was Bruce Springsteen

  • Cafferty and Brown best band ever

  • Man, I cry every time I hear this song. It reminds me of my mom.

  • Is it just me, or does John kind of resemble Roger Waters?

  • ONE OF MY Favorite songs And Loved Eddie and the Cruisers movie Love Johns Voice!! GREAT BAND

  • amazing how that voice comes from that skinny man..

  • Okay!!!! Now I am ready to go watch Eddie And The Cruisers. :)

  • More bands need cigarette smokin', headband under the fro piano players.

  • These guys got so screwed by those movies. Nobody associtates them with their ownm music.

  • LIke this song very much

  • ♥ ♥ ♥

  • These guys played at my Alma Mater. They went to Rhode Island College if I'm not mistaken.

  • thanks for posting this video, god bless the 80's

  • @xyzmikey2 No offense, but that's kind of a dumb statement. He's just saying that they were apparently great in his view and a bunch of others' views. He's just saying "God bless the memory". You've honestly never heard of that before?

  • @DetoxDaJuggalo It aint a dumb statement man He s just saying ya gotta live in the here and now thats all ? Know what I'm saying? When you look back in the rearview mirror the further your away the better it looks and you get this un realistic perception that the 80s were like the fifties or something and everybody was just listing to Tender years and buying milkshakes at the drivein, When in fact there was alot good but alot of bad in the 80s too

  • @jrock3757 u can say that again

  • if the sax in this song doesnt cut you up inside, you arent human

  • one evening back in 08 - when i was living with my oldest sister, i was babysitting my lil neice and nephew while she was out of the house. i decided to pop in a movie she owns, named - eddie and the cruisers... after the first song i heard from this great band, i fell in love with them right away. to this day i still listen to them, thanks to a good friend of mine who bought a couple of albums and the second movie for me as a surprise gift. i love the cruisers :-)

  • love his voice

  • Great voice...heart felt song.

  • song totallly Rocks ...

  • I can watch this over and over.. it sounds beautiful every time. A timeless gem :)

  • this is a great band love their music

  • my mom is a lucky brat she got to see these guys

  • John Cafferty has one of the best voices ever! So thankful to everyone who posts his art on here! THANK YOU!

  • The best song the ever done.. If you can feel anything from this song you might wanna check your soul.. LOL .. I t's just a heartfelt song that was very timely for me

  • hearts on fire is the best:D

  • Please tour and come to Pgh! Our town would love you here...

  • Then again, opinions do vary, and that IS to be respected, Just the bar seen rather than the concert hall for me yo! When it gets all to much they new it to, thats why it was made into a movie, just some nastalgic trivia to the damn thing, ROCK ON with the music EDDIE WILSON; peace!

  • they are great

  • I remember watching them perform live when they opened for Richard Marx , they were such a great band and these songs bring back so many amazing memories , I wonder why John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band never reached super star dome I guess its because they're talent surpassed mainstream.

  • Love this song makes me think of my late mom

  • Classic....This kind of music should get more recogntion today...it has meaning and touches your soul!

  • ya know the worst part is that as great as this song is, you don't hear it get any airtime anymore. i don't consider myself old so why would this be considered an oldie? should be an instant classic. where did this guy go?i'd scoop up his music in a n.y. minute

  • @blairva122 Yeah it sucks that they don't play it more. However, I do hear On the Darkside on the rarest occasions.

  • Thanks for the memories John. This song meant so much to me back then & now many moons have passed & it means so much more. Timeless Classic. Rock on world but cling on to your memories for as long as you can. RIP Dad, I used to play this song in his shed when we were working on my car..

  • aw these song remind me of, me and my son watching eddie and the cruisers together.....miss my son so so much...hearing this song made me smile n shed a tear.. good times..love you frankie...always always ur mom

  • i may have been john's first groupie. he used to sing in the coffee house at rhode island college. i was very infatuated. my friends and i followed him all around from some upstairs club on the east side to a place called "seventies" in newport. we actually had one real conversation. he was very sweet but asked if i didn't want someone taller. wonder if he remembers that?

glad to see a local group see success.

    pam

  • I love the mix of instruments, and vocals in this song! So gorgeous!

  • i wish i had the words also love this song it reminds me when i was young back then

  • Gonna see them at the Silver Reef Casino - Northwestern Washington State Memorial Day weekend - Eddie Lives!

  • John did the singing and Michael Par'e did the syncing.

  • Some RI boys who did really great, love you guys

  • this song is the highlight of the movie

  • great song!!! practically play this whenever I can

  • Wendal Newton lives!

  • Just bought tickets today for his show in May....soooo excited, can't wait!! Never thought I would have the chance to see this band live, being on the West Coast

  • @amgine Right on. I'd wish they'd come to the Portland, OR. area. Do you know where else on the West Coast they are touring? And how did you find out about them coming to the West Coast?

  • @lhart99 From the Casino's website...also just googled it but they only have a handfull of shows listed..nothing else out this way.

  • @amgine Oh, yeah, I totally forgot to tell you good luck. If you can get some video of that and post it that would be the greatest thing ever :-)

  • @lhart99 SilverReef Casino is not thaaat far of a drive for you ;)

  • such an underrated band! they rank up there with e. street for talent and songwriting. and most people still only know them as eddie and the cuisers.

  • I think phil anselmo shoould remake this song......

  • God, I love this song.....

  • yeah i agree jhon cafertys goy one them great voices i wish hed do some new stuff ide defewnitly buy it

  • Cafferty is highly underated! His voice still sounds as good. Sadly Cruisers took his name out of the spotlight.

  • I do not think he sounds like Springteen. His vocals are actually stronger than Bruce's. A bit more soulful.

    This song is AWESOME!

  • Congratulations - that makes ONE of you that thinks that!

  • Cafferty's vocal's are just great.

    I LikeBruce,especially on "Hungry Heart" & "Glory Day's"

  • love this song soooo much

  • I just said maybe. Generally, the people who sing on the soundtrack do not also star in the movie. Nor do people generally play themselves in movies either. I did not know I was going to upset so many people with my comment.

  • I think Phil Anselmo should remake this song......

  • was the beaver brown band on starsearch the 80's american idol show. and winners?
