  • Why did I watch all of it...?

  • The sensors are a really good idea but I hate the general setup of these, it isn't natural to look down to my right or left. It's also better when you can see that you won't walk into anyone coming from the other side... watching the traffic signals change and then checking the pedestrian signal is the easiest way to do it...

  • This is filmed in Sheffield! I was watching and i thought 'im sure i know that crossing' im sad i know but the video helped me alot i always used to walk across the road THEN press it! :O

  • HAHA at 4:28 the subtitles says "some fuckin crossings"

  • @zefer07 Well done for watching so far!

  • If you need advanced technology to accomplish a simple task like getting from one side of the road to the other, YOU ARE A FUCKING RETARD. Only fucking RETARDS (I'm talking IQ </= 80) can't cross the road safely without getting run over.

  • I fucking HATE these crossings. I'd love to smash in the skull of the sadistic cunt who invented them. The sensor technology is all well and good, but for the love of god WHY ARE THE RED AND GREEN MEN ON THE SAME SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE USER. It's fucking retarded and doesn't feel at all natural to be looking to your right instead of straight ahead. If they're so safe, why have the old-fashioned pelican crossings been retained at the busiest junctions?

  • lol at 6:04 to 6:09, "the address is given on the Screen" he sounds depressed at his job

  • Yea these things are dangerous! For a start, nobody knows what they are, I only found out whilst taking a driving instructor course, the red and green man as previously stated are hidden by other users, and it is not natural to look down, and scan for traffic. also in Redcar (my town) the traffic lights stay red far toolong after the pedestrians have crossed and this tempts new pedestrians who are walking up to the crossing to cross thinking the cars have stopped for them

  • the narrator sounds so annoyed. it's like he's telling an adult how to... oh, i don't know... cross a road?

  • yep, the annoyance of the narrator is why I thought it was funny and put it up on youtube...

  • the thing is, i'm not sure whether or not he was asked to sound so annoyed! if he wasn't, i'd imagine that he won't be hired for any more safety videos!

  • Hate these crossings. Despite the attempt at reassurance, I still feel very uneasy as I cannot see a light on the other side of the road. Nearside lights can easily be obscured by pedestrians. I feel much safer on the older Pelican Crossings (or no crossing at all) than on these dreadful things.

  • I agree completely. I'm a bus driver, and there's a pelican crossing regulating the exit from the bus station where I'm based. Pedestrians walking along the pavement are vaguely aware of a bus on the driveway, don't notice the little red pedestrian signal, assume the bus is waiting to let them cross (as if!) and step out. As they do so the bus's light finally goes green and the driver starts moving slowly; pedestrian jumps back in shock and horror...

  • How interesting. I worked for the same bus company for 24 years - retired now. Various jobs: conductor, publicity, ticket machine maintenance, destination screens, revenue stats. etc.

  • Haha - did you work on the Wayfarer 3? I think we need about 1 spare for every 3 in buses! As it happens, I've started working semi-officially on destination displays. About to phone Hanover to ask for the extended guide to their Super-X formatting language...

  • Worked originally on Almex Model A, then Wayfarer 2. Had trouble with blown print head solenoids, also module batteries didn't last very long. Dest. displays were a mixture: Vultron, Bright-Tech (very slow) and later, Hanover. I programmed the screen messages with a computer then uploaded to each bus using a personal organiser. It all ended in 1997 when our company sold out to one of the big groups.

  • they took like five times more time than they needed.

  • "...now WAIT until the green figure at the bottom lights up AND the traffic is stopped in both directions." The narrator sounds like he has the red-ass when he received this assignment.

Do all traffic lights go from red to amber and then green? I have not seen that before although I'm from the USA.

  • Yep, British lights go red, red+amber, green. Gives the drivers time to get the car into gear and be ready to release the handbrake!

  • Thanks for the reply!

  • This sequence is common in Europe. Some countries use flashing amber(same as red+amber).

  • Flashing amber is used on some pedestrian crossings in the UK - it means 'give way to pedestrians already on the crossing'. Red+Amber means 'get ready, it's about to go green'.

  • except most people decide to use them more like a green light!

  • I hope they print that leaflet in all the languages that cover all the thickies in Ealing Broadway that, will quite literally wait for the red to cross. that video was sad and funny yet actually quite educational. Now I know.

  • Nearside signals are crap. We've had them for years in my area but my opinion of them hasn't changed.

  • This is actually hilarious.

Thank you narrator for explaining how to cross the road!

  • They're installing puffins all over Cambridge, but I'm not sure if they have the cone on the bottom.

  • Dude, that's so annoying, there's a puffin crossing near mine, andeven when there's noone crossing it holds drivers up for a minimum of 50 secs.

  • This film was recorded in Sheffield. Yay!
