  • This is also my favorite Stevie song. It is so insightful, as are his other songs. He has been my favorite since I was 7.

  • The Best Man!

  • Correction:

My favorite song and imho the best song to date

  • i heard this song last night! Wow! I loved it! Call me a little Stevie Wonder fan!

  • I fell in love with this album aged 9-10 years old back in 77. Even back then, music this good used to just take my mind away to some OTHER place. Avery special album from a very special era.

  • The Best Man just brought me here .

  • 5:46 alwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaays! lol

  • There is no song that is "the best" song ever written. If there was a single song that was the best song ever written, there would be no point in writing any new music and life would be quite boring. But im sure you probably didn't mean the comment to be taken literally.

  • actually, it's a prophecy. ;)

  • iTunes;

    As - Stevie Wonder

Plays - Not even a number for that, You Have an amazing taste in music though!

  • Timeless

  • Indeed this a musical life lesson to share to all what love is....you're right aquario9, he did interject a little Dr. King in this one!

  • This is the God's word...The end the song his words is like a word became Martin L.King.

  • Sadly Stevie can't read all these comments of praise

  • Stevie is truly a musical genius! Included with the greats, Mozart, Beethovan and Bach!

  • @TheBadmanE

Thank You ! :-) I once got into a huge argument with a best friend because I said this (back in the late 70's) He heckled me with that for years. You and I agree my friend.

    Peace 2 U

  • Most Beautiful Song Ever......:) <3

  • im 18 and i still enjoy oldies like this one, cant beat this kind of music!

  • @ doc2skate, indeed, there was a 45 on the inside cover. That had Saturn and another track on it!

  • As a child growing up in the Bronx, This Album got me through some dark moments. Songs like this, Village Ghetto Land and I Wish. There will never be another artist such as Stevie. We are blessed to have his art.

  • THE BEST FEEL GOOD SONG IN THE WORLD! ^^

  • I believe this album also had a 45 record that played on 33 rpm. Great post.

  • People who dislike this song probably have lil wayne on repeat! So their opinions dont matter because they clearly dont know what the hell real music is and what a real artist sounds like!

  • May or may not be the best; BUT it is my favorite song. For years thought it was "Always" because in the days of 8 track, albums, cassette you just knew where it was.Saw Stevie Wonder and Wonderlove open for the Stones in Philly with what started as a hostile audience. He got a standing ovation at the end of the first song Living for the City. Pretty close to blowing the Stones off the stage.Stevie has been a gift of music, peace, happiness and well being for me.I listen to As daily.

  • People dislike Stevie??? I had no idea this was possible...... :(

  • We all know sometimes life's pains and troubles can make you wish you were born in another time and place. But u can bet your life times that and twice its double that God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed! I love this song and Stevie!

  • So I've been listening to a few songs since I'm new to Stevie Wonder, and they keep getting better and better and BETTER. This one is astonishingly good. Is that still him singing when it switches to that deep angry growl? That's passion.

  • That I'll be loving you ALWAYS.

  • "Simply the best song ever written !!"

SIMPLY BETTER IF YOU UP-LOADED IT IN STEREO!

  • 30 people on crack

  • @3:43 it sound like nicki minaj bout to start rappin lmao

  • Stevie Wonder we love the voice of black music

  • Prettiest, most complicated and complete song ever put out there. If you don't get it, you've never really been in love.

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS???? YOU MUST BE WHITE OR YOUNG GET A LIFE

  • Great Song on a Great Album

  • I love this song :)

  • ... really? George Michael, Mary J Blige? Really? When artists such as Michael Jackson and the OJays has such reguard for them that they are willing to sing BACKUP on thier albums, I think not. They are fine srtists and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but they are not in the same league as Stevie. He is one the few one name icons who's talent is truely deserving of the honor....

  • george michael 's version is so far better , this version is so fast , no emotion at all , even though it's Stevie Wonder ...lol

  • @gottagota - your review, a classic case of irony

  • @QuicksylverInc : no irony , it calls taste ^^

  • @gottagota Without getting into your lack of grammar, you speak of taste as if it is absolute, when all it can ever be is opinion. To claim that there is no emotion when the man is covering more of a vocal range than George & Mary (you did forget to mention her by the way) put together!

But le me further ask, if there is no emotion in this version, what do you call it when Stevie comes in after the instrumental?

  • @QuicksylverInc : my lack of grammar is because i 'm not english , i learn . I don't speak of taste as if it is absolute , but if it was the case , i'm free to think it ... i don't understand your question ...

  • music was better before

  • I'm wondering if there are any lyrics better than this... this is the most beautifully written song ever! I looked them up once to sing along and could not get past the poetry...

  • Passion Brought me here. ._____. Love it.

  • As= 2 + 2 always will= 4

  • who's watching this in 2011?

  • IS THERE ANYONE BETTER THAN THE GREAT STEVIE WONDER?

  • I get so caught up in this song sometimes it makes me cry....Such Beautiful Words

  • 30 people have never had a person tell them "I Love You."

  • BEHOLD people! this is one of the only artists in the history of time to not make one bad song in his lifetime.

  • O' lord, what happened to this kind of music, we're being deprived!

  • @freshPrincess626 They are tasteless freaks. Total 30 now.

  • @suks60 Or these people find the original a little dated and enjoy the George Michael, Mary J Blige version more? Just a thought.

  • LISTEN TO THIS WHENEVER YOU WANNA CHOKE A MOFO. YOU WILL FEEL BETTER. HAPPY IT MAKES ME.

  • talk about taking it higher! love all y'all!

  • He does not have song anymore on the strength of his sound. No one can touch Stevie.....

  • 29 dislikes !!!!!!!! red necks .. much love xx

  • Best song ever. Beautiful.

  • This is a good song for sure, but those who dislike it are entitled to their opinion. Hard to talk about acceptance and love and Stevie's mission in life, then turn around and blast those who don't like his music. Those who don't like his music, like some other music or things. Those of us who DO like is music should be open-minded tho.

  • @AmbientFire Then again, if you don't like his music, why exactly would you look up one of his videos?

  • @CoolerKing37 General curiosity? I heard about stevie wonder before I really listened to his music intently.

  • @CoolerKing37 General Curiosity? I know I knew of Stevie Wonder long before I really sat down and listened to his music, perhaps it's the same for other people too.

  • @AmbientFire That's A GREAT reply !!!

  • @AmbientFire I admire you're tolerance but at the same time find it totally unattainable, so many idiots

  • Simply the best song ever - correct!

  • @utubehall If not the best song ever, it easily can be considered Stevie's best. It certainly is MY favorite song by Stevie Wonder, a great great singer and songwriter. One of the best musical creators in history. And I am NOT exaggerating.

  • @richardmbowman easily be considered Stevie's best? I disagree my friend. I love this track, but there are at least 10 Stevie songs I like more. Livin for the city, joy inside my tears, superstition, to know you is to love you, etc, etc, etc.

    read montaigne's essays.

    you're welcome :)

  • @tristramshandy3 "Joy Inside My Tears"...words can't express how much I LOVE that song!

  • At least Stevie Wonder can't see the hateful comments from trolls and dislikes from stupid people :)

  • @Muirselgas Even if he did see them he knows better. He knows that "hate knows love's the cure"! :) :) :) Happy Easter!

  • My three wishes: "Love. More Love. Only Love!"

  • if all forms of media were inundated with nothing but these kinds of love songs and all the crap out there and hate were blanketed with nothing but these great songs, then maybe will have peace and love put back in their hearts and minds! Somebody please make it happen! If I could just hack into all the airways and play nothing but this kinda stuff 24/7.

  • @mrhyde4817 nice comment......ty

  • 29 people were blind as Stevie and while dancing and enjoying the song, they pressed the wrong button

  • @Call0fDuty3 Although Stevie is Blind, Sometimes you realize he actually sees more than any of us. :)

  • @theRoyal1

that's not my point mate, stevie is a one off, but read my comment again! maybe you understand what I ment with it. :)

  • @Call0fDuty3 No my friend, I did understand your point and made the comment because I was agreeing with you, it wasn't directed AT you but at the other "Blind" people :)

  • @theRoyal1

Oke mate, good to know ;)!

  • I don't think so ! cause stevie wonder when he started , he wasn't in front of a keyboard, but donny has been always playing on it, since his teenage !

  • @lonlywolfish -well....no , from the very begininng Donny Hathaway was given control of arranging and composing his music. When Stevie started out he was playing all the instruments in the motown studio, but Berry Gordy had a vision for stevie, so alot of stevie wonder hit during the 60' and 70' were ,usually songs just being recovered. it wasnt until the early seventies, that he did receive control, so he started working with the clavi, moog bass, and piano.so as i said earlier it is mutual.

  • Song's shit.

  • A perfect song in its melody and crystal lyrics. Thank you for the beautiful presentation.

  • I think Stevie may be the one artist where talking about dislikes is acceptable. I just imagine those 30 people are deaf.

  • he didn't sing as good as he did after he heard donny!

  • stevie wonderful

  • Stevie Wonder is very influenced by donny hathaway !!

  • @lonlywolfish Really? Amazing since Stevie was singing before Donny hit the scene.

  • @lonlywolfish -Well,i am sure they were influenced by each other. they both did the same things, and were around the same time.I think it is very mutual.

  • Everytime I hear this song, I know y'all guessed it, "The Best Man". I love that movie and I will always love Stevie's music.

  • Richard,

Thank you for this song.........you've made our first year together indescribable. I only thought men like you existed in romance novels or in movies, but God has blessed me with you in my life. Whether you are here for a moment, or a lifetime, I will forever cherish what you have taught and showed me....... that I AM worthy of being loved, respected and being treated like a woman. I love you.

  • 30 people seriously need a hug

  • This Song speaks to my Soul:) ALWAYS! I hope everyone has a awesome DAY:)

  • 30 people have not loved or been loved always.

  • One of the most amazing songs EVER written!! To not like/love this, just doesn't make sense!!

  • Fantastic. Grew up listing to Stevie & remember when this album came out. However, INNERVISIONS is my favorite Stevie Wonder Album.

  • There's no more I can add to this! It says it ALL!

  • What a timeless incomparable album........It is the soundtrack for my childhood....

  • This is my #1, most favorite song in life. <3 <3 <3

  • Lord ,The husband you are preparing for me ,I want him to love me like the lyrics describe..lol no seriously do you all hear what this man is saying....thats REAL love...I love stevie for this song simply amazing!

  • I remember hearing this song in the movie The Best Man.

  • Some of the most beautidul lyrics in the history of music, I cried when I first heard this song in 1976 when I was 10 years and still cry 35 years later because it's like Stevie touched the helm of God's garment and came up with 'As" as a song.

  • I loved this song so much that I carried the CD around & paid every restaurant in New Orleans (where I lived) $20 to play it every time I went out (which was every meal). My friends got so sick of it that they stole the CD and I would just buy it again within the hour.

Thank you, Stevie. This is still my favorite song.

  • @doodytwerp1 2 years ago I used to live there I'll be back there one day and gonna do exactly the same thing ;)

  • yep>>love it!

  • Get It Srevie !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Simply beautiful. I will always love this song until the day that is the day that are no more.

  • @freshPrincess626 They are justin biber fans.

  • @freshPrincess626 no 1 loves them how stevie talkin

  • @freshPrincess626 to answer your question, they are nobody us w/good taste need be concerned about

  • @freshPrincess626 Must be Justin Bieber fans.

  • @jamal23227

*sigh* yes, of course, because he's the current anti-christ of popular music. geez, get over him. i've gotten that same response to my comment at least twice already.

  • "just as kindness knows no shame, know through all your joy and pain that i'll be loving you always." one of the most calming and beautiful lyrics i've ever heard.

  • @antoinette5000 you are so right, these are such beautiful lyrics

  • This is my mother's theme music ;-)

  • ah!

  • This is the song that plays in the background in a scene with nia long (or was it monica calhoun) & taye diggs in Best Man, I think. Whichever movie it was, I was going crazy trying to figure out which stevie wonder song it was. It wasn't on the greatsest hits cd I had and I was mad, lol. I love this song!

  • @garnetjewel love it too! i have the cd as well, & yeah i was mad haha. & yep, it was Ms. Long :)

  • For those who hate this song, that's cool. We all can't have good taste in music. As ..always...infinity....good music will live.

  • Looove this song soo much, even right up to the point at the end when Stevie fades back in vocally with the choir

  • @Tenatu Agreed.

  • @Tenatu I agree completely!

  • @Tenatu I love this Album. Reminds me of my childhood, no album EVER has matched up to this. I love it soooo much, Sean

  • @Tenatu Stevie is, for his luck, not a human being

  • lovely!!!! sweet to the ear.

  • @mrafrica4441 not the angry bit in the middle though :P I swear Id never heard that shouting bit before.

  • From Wikipedia, I pulled the following information on "As":

    "As" (Wonder) – 7:08

    Nathan Watts—Bass, Handclaps

    Dean Parks—Guitar

    Herbie Hancock— Fender Rhodes, Handclaps

    Greg Brown—Drums

Stevie Wonder - Lead and Background Vocal, Fender Rhodes

    Mary Lee Whitney—Background Vocals

Dave Hanson, Yolanda Simon, Josette Valentino—Handclaps

  • The 27 dislikes were probably lost Justin Bieber fans.

  • @upsstc

who need to grow up and check out the roses!!

  • How many writers could even conceive of these lyrics? I can't even think of one. Artists today use other artist's lyrics and melodies, sampling multiple tracks to make a song. Masters like Stevie create it all from their minds and souls and perform it as well. No auto-tune no rhythm tracks. Thank you Lord, for your wisdom in giving us the gift of Stevie Wonder so that we can know what music was meant to be.

  • @taloneal Preach!!

Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Rosebuds know when to bloom in early may ! That is so true ..

  • All I have to say is that, this song is a pure mastepiece. The state of black music (music in general ) is really sad today.

  • 27 people missed the like button

  • @hiddenid958 FUCK 'EM! They don't know good music.

  • @upsstc

in fairness it is easy to click dislike in error .. what is there not to like in this or even the latter day Mary J Blige George Micheal duet version?

  • muy buen tema también magistralmente interpretado por George Michael y MJB

  • Tthe light finally went on and I decided to check the album cover. It's the incomparable Herbie Hancock playing the piano on As.

  • @sohooded Stevie WOnder is holding down the Chords and Herbie Hancock is doing all the runz and adlibs. so they both played on this record. IT is very very very very unlikely that stevie would write the music and not play on the album. the WOrds & Music were written by Stevie.

  • Someone else said Herbie Hancock is playing the piano.

  • Sweet, lyrical, funky, tender, catchy, romantic, spiritual. An Amazing Song.

  • Nothing is going to top this one. Today's music CAN'T HOLD A CANDLE to this one song.

  • wonderful

  • Love is what this song sings. 'Nuff said<3

  • 3:44 "aaah"

  • wow 26 people dont have good taste in music..

  • @alex16ed They aint got a clue..they aint ready.

  • stevie wonder forever !!!

  • I got this album as a birthday gift when it first came out (I was in my teens) and it blows me away that I still remember the lyrics today. Incredible, beautiful song and so wonderful to reconnect with it!
