Hey if you want my opinion, i don't think you need a teacher all that much, I'm self taught, just keep on listening to traditional irish tunes and song and you keep on getting better and better.
and guys keep in mind, I really don't know much, so I may be doing all kinds of things wrong. If ya try it, and it sounds good to you, that's all that really matters, but keep an open mind too cause i could be leading ya down a wrong path or something. but the kid asked for advice, wasn't going to just ignore him.
another technique for the slide that i've seen is insted of slowly lifting your finer off the hole, slide it sideways off the hole while pressing down ont he tube. I can't tell you how well it works, since i don't have a whistle yet, but you can try it and see if it works better
