Of course the civil rights movement was not a JOKE, and in NO way are these ladies saying it was. We all need to remember that everyone involved in the civil rights movement were people and like us they too had a sense of humor. As Black people we tend to put our leaders and hero's up on pedestals and thus making them, and their status, more than human - this allows some to think those heights are no longer obtainable. They laughed, we can laugh and we all can achieve.
it would be cool to see what the 'real' ladies have to say about this video. I bet you $1,000 they would laugh. Yes, what their husbands did were of great civil importance, but im sure these ladies got fed up with things and dealt with day-to-day drama just as any women would today :)
@SimplyMeeMee I feel like the ability to laugh at things like this makes it possible for us to move on as a country. Yes, the movement was both amazing and honorable. But we can't keep looking at the past going, "oh you broke my terracotta pot i want reparations" let's move on and look towards the future.
@SimplyMeeMee dont be a downer. no one is denying the impact that these women made, but no ones gonna think that you hate the civil rights movement for laughing at a video like this. its a satire/parody. the women weren't actually like this ya know
(2) If our Civil Fathers and Mothers could watch this today, I bet they would. And I bet not B.E.T. (BET) that they would love it. But unfortantely that can't, so I aint about to press it. Just know that I feel that I am looking at the followers who Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Mandala, Steve Biko and the myriads of generals to self-consciousness despised. I will exit on this last tag - "Well...If you think the front of the bus is too bumpy," #GET IN THE BACK
It is about time that we found a creative way to honor our Civil Rights Leaders. It makes them interesting tenfold than noting discolored biographies every February, in addition, gives us other angles of aspect to them individually. Present times wont change the HONOR of these women and men who fought for ours, that blame goes to the people who wish to understate Civil Rights names like a transmitted STD. Are my people upset about TV? Again? Check out BET? Youre watching it now? Oh..
I want to like these ladies and support, but their comedy is super weak. It's just poorly written and corny. I looked at some of the other videos and well... at least the Zorbot thing was somewhat unique. You have the internet, you can come up with a better robot costume than that.
I want y'all to be so funny, but it's just not working.
This is coonery and it's sad. It's not even funny... just plain disrespectful. Who is responsible for this video? They need to learn what real satire is.
Why we as a race of people have to be so damn serious about EVERYTHING!!! I suppose Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela never had a sense of humor! I suppose we have to walk around an oppressed downtrodden race forever. I am a black woman born and raised and living in the south. My grandmother was a part of the civil rights movement and found this funny. What does that say? Yes we all know the seriousness of the movement.Yes we all know what sacrifices were made.Laugh sometime!
I'm appalled and very surprised that Wayne Brady would lend his talents to this kind of Buffoonery. Always count on uninformed Blacks to make a mockery out of the very thing that allowed you to be who and what you are today. Not even remotely funny!! And to you idiots writing that it's funny you serve no purpose but to further demonstrate and exacerbate how dumbed down you've become. Neither Civil or Slavery is a laughing matter. Jews don't joke about the Holocaust and neither should Blacks.
This is an absolute disgrace to make a mockery of the men and women involved in the civil rights movement. You Aunt Jemimas and Uncle Remuses involved in this travesty should be ashamed of yourselves! The KKK wouldn't produce anything as distasteful as this piece of crap.YOU DAMN SELLOUTS!!

So if someone is crying over the fact that everyone doesn't enjoy it then they need to realize that art is SUBJECTIVE, open to interpretation and rests on opinion. Putting these great women and their accomplishments (both Maya Angelou and Betty Shabazz have doctorates by the way) in the same category as a second rate television show and Marilyn Monroe? I mean really?
@Kalaundrea STFU and take a chill pill, Betty Shabazz and Maya Angelo are not so special where they are exempt from critque or humor. There are plenty people with doctrate degree's and have been made fun of, Mad TV and Dave Chappelle shows also Paul Mooney has done previous shows based on Oprah (who is also well accomplished) and Condellezza Rice (another powerful accomplished black woman) were you outraged then?
everybody who laughed when madea said 'get off the bus rosa!' and who are leaving comments now that this insensitive and inappropriate please shut the hell up.
chris rock, tyle perry, dave chappelle ahve all made COMEDY out of prominent people from black history and id be willing to bet money yall laughed then. relax.
First Black Pilgrim video was hilarious but the Real Housewives of Civil Rights one was horribly superficial, stereotypical, insensitive and disrespectful. Wayne Brady's presence in anything generally indicates that cooning is involved and this was no exception. I just assumed some callous white men had written it based on the skit's oversimplification of the women of the Civil Rights era. I guess it was just some black women using humor to mitigate their own internalized oppression instead.
"I've been bitten in the a*s by dogs, hosed down, had bullets thrown at me, and none of them hurt more than your mouth! Martin! " "Martin---" "Shut the hell up! lmao!!
I think some one who sees racism in comedy doesn't understand the concept of comedy. You sit her and name all the oppressive situationa and lack of this and that for the black race..but remember this is youtube. Grab a soap box and vocalize it in you're community if its that serious to you. AND I'm african American not a nigga. You idiot.
This was actually kind of funny. I'm suprised they had the audacity to make a skit surrounding a subject like civil rights. But the way they flipped the concept was pretty cool. In my opinion, it was'nt overtly insensitive, & they did'nt cross the line, so to say. LOL @ the landline phone being used as a carphone.
White racists cops continue to murder us, the educational system continues to under-educate us, the economical system continue to white-ball us and your response to someone who's angry about this is to "relax"? Havn't we been ridiculed enough? You hafta be a dumb nigga to laugh at this!
@killskillz - I think the point is, YOU CANT CHANGE THE PAST. If you can laugh about something--youve probably moved on from it, let alone learn something from it.
Malcolm X with a car phone with a cord LOL, but didn't make me laugh other than that, maybe a better script could of pulled it off. Those who were offended most likely disgrace you all selves in many ways
i agree with those who feel that we dont always have to be the angry rwce. Relax sometimes. it was creative and funny. Lets use that angry towarrs more meaningful things instead of the small stuff.
For those who are concerned about those without humor. It is known that humor is an indicator of high intelligence. So do not bother refuting their inability to get the humor, they will likewise not understand you either. They are not bright.
I thought this was hilarious! I am LMBO. It's okay to laugh. We don't always have to be the angry black people. We are not only intelligent beings but we are funny and creative as hek! Keep up the good work!
I dont think it was funny. Not so much that disrespectful, but just not that funny. Wayne Brady must be getting desperate. This is pretty low for him.
@caveman357 no, he's not desperate, he's a comedian, and many artists do things that may seem "low" because they are passionate about it or because it's just fun....a good break from what they have to do to pay the bills.
wow ..the late Coretta Scott King is referred to as a b!tch, and a "baby's Mama", to someone Martin once was at odds with ..and ya'll just think we should laugh at it? That's the problem ...blacks folks laugh at a lil' too much of everythang, and what's even sadder, is that we'll laugh along w/ whites at this kinda shit..(people who are just laughing AT us) *smDh

Some things should just be hands off... this is one of them.

I guess it was just some black women using humor to mitigate their own internalized oppression instead.

very well said....I think the creation of this highlights the problem itself...that we are still not taken seriously.

You idiot.

lmfao they are too dumbb

You have to be a RHOA fan to appreciate the humor.

It's comedy!!! I just don't understand why "my folks" have to be angry and offended about EVERYTHING. That is truly a sad existence.

I dont think it was funny. Not so much that disrespectful, but just not that funny. Wayne Brady must be getting desperate. This is pretty low for him.
caveman357 1 year ago
@caveman357 no, he's not desperate, he's a comedian, and many artists do things that may seem "low" because they are passionate about it or because it's just fun....a good break from what they have to do to pay the bills.
MsZenith7 1 year ago
@MsZenith7 No he is getting desperate. He didnt even play a good role in this. Plus joking about civil rights is in bad taste. this is pretty wack.

wow ..the late Coretta Scott King is referred to as a b!tch, and a "baby's Mama", to someone Martin once was at odds with ..and ya'll just think we should laugh at it? That's the problem ...blacks folks laugh at a lil' too much of everythang, and what's even sadder, is that we'll laugh along w/ whites at this kinda shit..(people who are just laughing AT us) *smDh
