That's not the same at all. Alaskans aren't taxed, she's not redistributing tax money. It's been going on in Alaska for a while, and it's that the state earns money from letting oil companies drill there, more than enough to cover their budgets, and so they give it to the people. It's not redistribution of wealth at all. It's backwards taxes.

That's not socialism. Socialism would be if Alaska did charge people taxes, and then dole them out to people unequally. Right now, they're not taking taxes from anyone, and they're giving it out equally, to everyone, regardless of anything else.

That's not socialism at all. That's a profitable government, something we have far too little of in Chicago, and pretty much everywhere else, especially predominantly Democratic cities.

Redistribution of wealth is socialism. Alaska would have to collect taxes for this to be socialist. Alaskan government is making a profit, and giving it back to the people. That's just a damn good government.

If that is really socialism, it's a form of socialism I wouldn't mind. I do, however, mind taking from the rich and giving to the poor. Subsidizing unemployment and laziness is no way to go about rebuilding the economy.

It's sharing the wealth, yes, but it's not taking money from people who work and giving it to people who don't. That's where it differs so much from socialism, and that's the problem of socialism.

And it's not giving more to the poor, it's just the government making a profit, as opposed to states taking 8% out of your paycheck, and it'd be great if more states could do that, but the key there is that they're not taking the money from taxpayers, they're giving back money from oil companies.

No, I never said the money came from nowhere, that's quite the same message I have to tell people who support truly socialist legislation. It's not coming from people, though, it's coming from oil companies who pay Alaska to drill there.  While you might not see the difference between the two, there certainly is one. And it'd hardly be any less socialist for the government to sponsor socialist health care.

slizzler1 - You are stating that Palin instituted a "windfall profits tax" and that is simply not true. What she did was modify the existing severance tax, which works more or less like a sales tax on resources taken out of the ground. (A windfall profit tax, of course, is based on profits.) A severance tax is by no means a socialistic approach, google it.

Well, Obama says that most of his donations where individuals of $100 and less and he has raised $700 million. There is a lot that doesn't add up. After it became known that ACORN has used his donor lists, he won't make public these lists because it is too difficult to produce. Well, it is all on databases, then it should not be that hard. Then there is the questable foreign donations and this could be as much as $50 million if not more.

-He voted AGAINST Equal Pay Legislation, because he is a sexist

-He voted 80% of the time AGAINST DAV-issues (Disabled American Veterans), because he doesn't want to fund healthcare-programs for injured soldiers

-He claims he is Pro Life, but he was the strongest advocate for the Iraq-War, which has cost America trillions of Dollars, thousands of lives (and Bin Laden is still ALIVE!)

-McCain promises tax cuts for all Americans, without saying how to pay for it

I don't want tax cuts. I want the tax system to be fair. The only way to be fair is a flat tax system. Everyone pays 15% of their income. Everyone pays the same portion of their income. That is fair.

@AmericaAgainstObama Even though this is an old comment I have to say that flat taxes aren't fair. Myself I work as a doctor in Finland paying nearly 30% taxes but I don't care because I still have more left over than others and to me it isn't that big a loss as it would be to those less fortunate. Paying more taxes than most earn gross and damn proud of it.
