There is a video about the sr 606 repair. I have a 607sr. Mine comes up with no signal. But works fine when cold . Messes up after 10 mins of use or even less if heating is on.
It seems like you may have a capacitor problem on the hdmi board.
it might be the tv samsung tvs are very sensitive, the tv rejects the switch and sends and the reciever switches back to tv tape (usually an unused channel)
if its not the tv then i dont know, but samsung tvs also flicker if your downloading a game for example on ps3 or xbox and trying to watch the tv at the same time the image flickers and is unwatchable i bought a plasma tv and was recommended to avoid samsung by sky and richersounds. panasonic viera is the mutts nuts (for future refernce)
Crazy. I had an Onkyo 606 then ecountered HDMI switching issues and static in the left from channel. After being very frustrated by this I bought a 607. So far the 607 works good but occasionally the HDMI signal drops or says no signal. Unfortunately Onkyo customer service is useless and require you to bring it in to be serviced rather then just mail it. I find it easier to buy them with the warranty cause as I'm sure well aware of they are not cheap.

Wow! There's hardly any ventilation with those devices. That receiver's gotta be running super hot!
