Earth Wind and Fire hade revolutioned totally funk,r&b music. Theirs music from ´70s is sounding today, 2011, miles ways better than most todays professional musicians.
At last, I've found the best and most funkiest bass line ever in this recording...I will practice night and day until I've got it licked...it absolutely rocks...as does EWF..Maurice is a musical genius..but I agree this bassline is not delivered by Verdine on stage..has to be someone sitting on a chair backstage, to play a bassline like this whilst movin around on stage is quite simply impossible..
This music is absolutely timeless. You can hear EWF 20 years ago or 20 years from now and it will still be fresh and new. Always love it! The outfits not so much, but the music definately.
Man stop that lyin how u gonna do EW&F like this this was on HBO in JAPAN!!!! Stop that lyin lmaooooooo!!!!!!!!!! Ive watched this thousands of times i know my EARTH, WIND & FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just realized that the guitar player seen @ 0:33 in none other than Luke - Steve Lukather - phenom session musician, guitarist, vocalist, composer, producer & arranger, Grammy winner and member of TOTO!
@chassisgirl Sorry thats not Lukather, thats Roland Bautista a former EWF band member who left in the mid 70's but later would sometimes performed on the road with them. Steve Lukather mostly worked with them in the studio especially on the Faces album in 'Back on the Road' and 'You Went Away'.
JeffNorox....Clearly u don't know what the FFF ure talkin' bout, Verdine is the only bass player thats ever donned the stage 4 EWF wit that instrament in his hands. Peroid!
@yakkdozalee Verdine may have been on stage but there has always been a back stage player for him. He does not play that well. Louis Sattersfield played bass on a good number of EWF sessions
@musclenigga09 I know Maurice is wearing almost the same outfit and his hair is identical. He cut his hair back into a shag back in '85 (see the cover on his solo album), so it had to be before that. The hairline looks fuller than the one in one oft heir '83 music videos, so sometime between 79-82 is likely.
I remember rushing home after I bought this album as a kid, man I couldn't stop playing it (my mother hated the album covers, thought they were demonic lol) but man, my only regret is that I didn't attend their concerts when I was younger
how did the black community, so rich & gifted with GREAT musical talent, degenerate from this spectacular genre like EWF, into current gangsta-rap mess?...i just don't get it!
The music industry. It is not run by people from our community or by people who have respect for us, quite the contrary, it is in there interest to exploit our talent for wealth and to let the negative consequences contaminate our culture.
I remember when I first heard this song, it felt like something I had waited my entire life to hear and that is when I was sold, bought, and delivered on EWF. It was everything I always thought a song should be and then I was like he did it, its done!!
I first heard this song in the 90's, I was born in 1980. I grew up on EWF but not this song and when I discovered it, it was like something I had waited my entire life to hear
@1980Triumph WOW, I saw your comment and man you hit it right on the head!!! This song is so amazing, so heartful, so full of energy. Makes you want to either dance or grab a horn and start playing!!! So many of the College Marching Bands do this song. I know the Marching Tar Heels do this one and do it great!!! This IS one of the greatest pieces of music EVER WRITTEN!!!
@heelsfantim Man, I got this album right when it was first released, I remember sitting in my living room and parents weren't home. I just played that LP over and over again. The whole album was like speaking to my soul (like all EWF albums!).. its like I group up with EWF as spiritual messengers at different points in my life
Man, I'll never forget the day I first heard this song, it really blew my mind. It simply is a brilliant masterpiece. One major regret is that when Maurice was well that he didn't have a full orchestra show, maybe a one off show with a blazing orchestra to back up this amazing band. Many people dismiss I AM because of Wonderland but ITS represents a single point masterpiece in EWF's history!
This is the BEST EW&F song to open/start ANY concert with. The horns are superb! Too bad Maurice white is not able to tour with them anymore. I miss the original keyboard player, Larry Dunn, as well.
