I could not believe how reasonably priced these machines are!. I am upgrading my Gaming Laptop as i do every 12 months & compared to what i paid for my Alienware m17x vs The amount of kick the machine actually produces is astounding!. I say fantastic work Asus!

I bought this laptop 6 months ago and it's a gorgeous machine aside from these issues:

- the sound is crap

- the keyboard is good for gaming but typing is not that good (buttons doesn't respond if not strongly pressed )

- When I use it as a wifi router, the area covered with wifi is small (compared to the other laptops I have)

- the usb 3 needs an update for I get the blue screen of death whenever I plugin my external hardrive

Aside from this, It is worth buying

This costs nearly, if not more, than a $1000 less than that. Why in the world would you want an alienware? Also alienware uses motherboards made by asus in their laptops.

@khawar79 As far as I know, this Laptop only SUPPORTS 3D, which means that you have to connect it to a 3D Ready TV..

@jacklino3 usually the model number has to do with what kind of specs it has, its still a g74sx, but the a1 may have less ram or hdd space then the xa1, etc....

@HungQDang Dont fall for the best buy one. It has a 2gb version of the 560M that runs on 128bit. ALL of the other models run at 192bit. It makes a noticable diff, especially when running at high resolutions. Also, the Bestbuy model has a crappy 1600x900 screen that has infurior color reproduction. The price is lower, but you dont get any more value out of it by the dollar.

this asus model is 300-400 bucks cheaper than the alienware m17x with a better graphics card, more ram and more hard drive space.

you can customize a m17x to be better than this asus model, but it will cost you. big time
