I think I know how this works. Kinect tries to reduce lag by predicting what moves you're going to make. So the game probably thinks he's going to turn at a corner, and so it turns it for him.

Funny, but I'm suspicious. The angle of the Kinect is odd ... and the angle of the recording of himself ... I think with the angle that the Kinect was such that very slight movements, including forwards/backwards of the hands, is enough for the Kinect, and causes the steering. In the photos at the end, you can see that there is movement of the hands, particularly the left hand. It's probably just enough to steer, and yet look very still from the video camera angle he recorded from.
I really wanna try this myself but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be real. I just wish motion controls would go away. The Wii, the Move, the Kinect, they're all pieces of shit.

If those are webcam shots then he's taken the trouble to superimpose text over the shots! I've just tried this on my Kinect and what do you know, it sends me in a straight line right into the walls. To the person who mentions the reflection in the glasses, he could easily be watching the gameplay recording while being filmed. And he keeps his hands in position long after the race is over. Why?
@Fosax I don't recall changing any setting when I started playing and, infact, have just loaded up the game again and haven't found any autosteer option (must admit I only had a quick look) . But in any case if 'autosteer' is simply an option in the game then what exactly is the point of this video? @buster9877 No, I'm playing the full version of the game where (as far as I can see) this doesn't work. That's why I asked if you were playing the demo version. Demo versions are usually works in progress and will always have bugs like these. The fact that this video is of the demo version is not made clear here (only on another of his video posts) and gives a very wrong impression of the full game. Many of the comments here are slagging the Kinect off based on this video which is wrong.

I think the game would have "expected values" to remove junk input from the kinect, and since by not moving you aren't doing what's "expected" by the algorithm, it considers your input junk data and just enters an in-range value for you.
Hence driving for you. Because Kinect knows it can't be reliable.

Looks like there's some sort of auto steering help to try and compensate for the new and unfamiliar controls. This makes it turn the car slightly in the right direction constantly which is why he avoided direct 90 degree impacts and managed to stay on the road on the softer turns. I can only assume upping the difficulty or changing the settings and take away this steering help for more experienced players who can do better by themselves or like the challenge. Like Aim Lock in some console FPS's.

regardless of the game, the kinect is a pretty serious bit of kit. Just look at what the pc crowd are doing with it. As a console peripheral its not so great but as a cheap decent stereoscopic depth sensing camera it is brilliant.
If you really want proof, or as close to proof as you can get, take a look at the reflection of the brightness of the screen in his glasses. It's bright while outside, dim in the tunnel, and gets bright again right after he boosts. Every time. It's not faked and there's no point defending a game like this. Come on people, use your brain.

Looks like there's some sort of auto steering help to try and compensate for the new and unfamiliar controls. This makes it turn the car slightly in the right direction constantly which is why he avoided direct 90 degree impacts and managed to stay on the road on the softer turns. I can only assume upping the difficulty or changing the settings and take away this steering help for more experienced players who can do better by themselves or like the challenge. Like Aim Lock in some console FPS's.

regardless of the game, the kinect is a pretty serious bit of kit. Just look at what the pc crowd are doing with it. As a console peripheral its not so great but as a cheap decent stereoscopic depth sensing camera it is brilliant.

If you really want proof, or as close to proof as you can get, take a look at the reflection of the brightness of the screen in his glasses. It's bright while outside, dim in the tunnel, and gets bright again right after he boosts. Every time. It's not faked and there's no point defending a game like this. Come on people, use your brain.
