Delighted to find this old favourite (lived in the Phillipines, married to a Filipina since before this film was made) and may I thank you for taking the trouble to upload it.
It's remarkably well written and directed, on a BBC budget.
A number of people actually express it wasn't quite real. I watched it before going to the Philippines, sure enough the movie depicts everything accurately. The movie does a good job of showing different scenarios of women with their various backgrounds meeting someone for the purpose of marriage and different results that can come from it. The Internet has replaced a matchmaker as depicted in the film and blossoms.com is now probably the largest Internet dating site for Filipino women.

I love this movie! I have an old VHS copy that I recorded myself when I saw the listing and watched it on A&E channel here in the U.S. a while back. My VHS copy is watchable but in poor condition. This is much better. So glad that I thought of Googling the title after watching Harry Potter Prisoner From Azkaban and seeing Professor Lupin! Thanks for uploading it!
@digitalpapa2 Like you I saw on A&E channel and decided to record it many years ago. Have not seen it ever come back on TV. Kind of a classic when you see a very young Professor Lupin in it
Having lived in the P.I. for 4 years I really got homesick watching this movie. It's one of my all-time faves. Even though alot of it is stereo typing, it's pretty close. Lovin it!
@Manongjojo------ The woman with glasses was Tim's date (Tim is David Thewlis (plays Remus Lupin in Harry Potter films) what was the woman's name that is now famous in TFC. Although the credits are on this film it does not clearly indicate her name... Let us know
cebu is shit compered to the other islands. the police in carcar are the most corrupt bastards in the world. cebu woman are all money facing cheats. beware if going there to meet one. they are Bogo, buang ka cheating mother fucking bitches, especially in the southern area's of Argao, Dalaguete and Alcoy.
@Buffdude432 -Quite true... a number of American men that go to the Philippines are trying find a woman with more traditional thoughts about marriage. Things like staying together forever and not hiring a lawyer. Also at long-distance relationship such as this places more emphasis on communication and getting to know each other without actually meeting..... much more time for the relationship to mature and find common ground
@Repobrain oh, provided that you are using all that energy to get to know someone truthful. I don't even know if I would even dare to try this you know, alot of dishonest people on the world and just this anonymous writing to eachother without actually meeting makes it very easy for people to play eachother and to be someone they arn't. I have no good experience with that
@CosmicD Well to be honest there are dishonest people everywhere. While there are many divorces keep in mind those are with people that knew each other and probably lived locally. The advantage of being 10,000 miles away is that you can ask many questions and for a woman to get a fiancée visa to come to the United States she would need an expensive medical check, background check,etc.... just to qualify. It's a lot more complicated and thorough than most realize
@Repobrain it is complicated yes. I hear here in this country that many relationship strand in drama just because this department is thinking it's a fake marriage where the woman is questioned and accused of wanting to have our nationality. So when your truthful it's often not worth the energy in the long run, and when the guy is dishonest or the filipina is dishonest, at least one is wasting energy. Anonimity is so easy , even when you ask many questions the other can answer what he/she wants
saw this magnificent movie after i married a lady from pangasinan, two daughters and 15 years later divorced. just grew apart. still friends, now married to a lady from biri island. great movie and so real. love to get a copy.
My wife is from 100 Islands... same province. I saw this film right before I went to the Philippines and had recorded it from TV. I have never seen this film available anywhere else..... it is a very good film. Of course now people meet online instead of going through a matchmaker like the film represents but after you get there it's pretty much the same !! It's also interesting one of the professors from Harry Potter is in this film although this film was not listed in his biography.
this is nothing but 4 desperate filipina hookers who wanna marry foreign oldies,50s,60s,70s just for their own profit and motives of using them, not 4 love! reality check, sucks!! filipinas are desperate hookers! thats it!
@karrotrab Actually the film depicts 2 hookers, a virgin maid and young girl. The last lines of the film say "you can't generalize" but is exactly what you did by saying "Filipinos are desperate hookers". You should note that the largest export of the Philippines. is its people! Almost every ship in the world has Filipino males as part of the crew. Almost every hospital in the world has a Filipino nurse. Your words show you are probably jaded by a Filipino girlfriend. Don't generalize
tang ina mga pokpok!!! "why do u like to marry an english man?? bcoz he's loving nice charming and sexy. ulul!! u should have included BECAUSE I WANNA AVOID THE POVERTY HERE IN PHILIPPINES..OR,IM SO DESPERATE TO GET OUT FROM THIS COUNTRY..DESPERATE FILIPINAS WANNA MARRY 50 60 OLDIES JUST FOR THEIR OWN PROFIT! NOT FOR LOVE!
You should also add as many Filipina women do that Filipino men tend to be players. So they tend to look for older men that are out of the playing stage and seeking a serious long-term relationship. women from any part of the world seek a guy with financial stability.... I mean think about it would you want to marry someone who was financially extremely unstable? Also look at the end result of this movie 3 out of 4 were still married and they were those were the older more established men
I'm glad to see other people have a soft spot for this movie. It's funny and sad at the same time, with just a little hope thrown in. The low budget actually helps it feel more real, in my opinion. And remember:
Did anyone know that Gareth is in fact Ray Gravell the famous Wales rugby centre who also played for the british lions.Check out his name on YOU TUBE now sadly died while on holiday with his family in Spain..
This movie originally aired on 9/ 15 1991 under the TV series Screen One. The concept of the series was put together by Producer Kenith Trodd in 1984. Filipino Dreamgirls was directed by Les Blair. The movie was written by Andrew Davies which next year wrote the movie a very Polish practice in 1992 for Screen One. He did his homework as the film is very true to life for that time period. Of course now days with the Internet has changed the way couples might meet when they are so far away.
This is a very good movie of the girls of the Phillipines in and out of the bars they are all good and sexy girls.been to PI many times many good Phillipine people there. This is a good and funny movie, but have tryed to get a top grade copy but have not been able to yet.
Filipina Dreamgirls is very realistic and true to life depiction of the experiences of foreign men coming to the Philippines looking for brides in the days before the Internet, in the heyday of pen pal relationships.
I was struck too with the casting of authentic looking and sounding Filipina women; plus, this movie included some really good music from the '80's: certainly, a must see film for any foreign gentlemen considering taking an island girl for a bride.
This is a movie that disappeared and was not available anywhere. I have not met many Filipinos that had never seen this movie yet however it's quite interesting how it handles foreigners looking for Filipina wives.
'm not sure the song was ever recorded except for this movie track. Title of the song is Dreaming. Sung by Hope Augustus and was written by Simon Brint and Lise Mayer. The lyrics certainly sound like they were made for the movie but no proof of that. Never found any reference on the web that the song was recorded separately.
This is an excellent movie for anyone who's considering a Filipino for a wife. This movie came on right before I traveled to the Philippines. While it deals with some areas people would rather not talk about it does capture what can happen. Beautiful people and country.
The opening song sung by Hope Augustus. The words of the song say it all. The opening Filipino women looking for future husbands from other countries. Though 10,000 miles away shows interest in two people trying to form a relationship. This scene shows the fears and passed all against them. The male companions leave from Wales to a meet and greet potential brides in the Philippines.
I will take 2 lol

Truth is that you have just as good as chance of finding a gold digger here in the US, in your own area than you do in the Philippines.

On A&E it was Filipina Dreamgirls done by ScreenOne for the BBC. Now at some point they could of renamed it.
