  • nan's hair is so nice

  • I hope she gets syphilis in the end

  • Gah! MUSTACHE

  • Wow, Eve and Benny are just as immature as 14-year olds.

"How do you think lizards make love?" *stinks tongue out*

    Ahahah xD

  • what happened to nan was sad. the man was a loser for leaving her & bribing her with money. but, what she did was just plain whorish.

  • c'mon, to be fair to Nan, she didnt rape Jack, he made a decision to sleep with her even though he's with Benny

  • She was hoping to get pregnant.

  • Pause at the very beginning and notice how Benny and her mother aren't even in the car

  • She had to go after jack because his family is wealthyish and hes going to be sucessful in life...she wants a man like that.

  • It wasn't that hard to lure Jack into sleeping with her, was it...

  • I'm wondering, was it Nan's intention to become pregnant by Simon? or was it an accident? I'd say she did it unprotected on purpose to get Simon to marry her.

  • 6:20 no no no no NO NOO! fuck no. I hate her. That's it. I hate her and I don't like him. Should've expected it from him.

  • nan is a whore!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hmmm... If they did get married... I wonder what her explanation would be to Jack for why the baby was born 2 months early, not to mention her family.

  • Sean Walsh is the patron saint of slimeballs.

  • she chose jack to pin it on cuz it was easy. she knew a good man like him would take responsibility for his actions and do what was necessary, and he's naive because he's a virgin so he didnt question it.

  • el padre del hijo de Elizabeth Keller se desentiende de el, despues de haberla desvirgado ¡cabrón!

  • surely there are other men...why nan? why? then again stupid jack, typical of a guy.

  • @muradori Typical of a guy to stick by a girl when she is pregnant instead of being with the girl he'd rather be with. You should think about what you're saying

  • @PassWorId i meant there are other men she could have done it to, would you do it to your friend's boyfriend? what kind of a friend are you if you do. and when i said why jack? i meant why did he fall for temptation. CHIVALRY IS ALL GREAT, but was it chivalry when he fell for nan's seduction. HENCE, typical, meaning, typical of men to easily go for any girl willing to do it with them, because they've been neglected for too long. and YES I PUT A LOT OF THOUGHT WHEN I SAID IT. :)

  • @muradori here here, I agree

  • So, was Jack a victim of intoxication here?........................... I mean, when a man has sex with an intoxicated woman some say she's being victimized by him. That she's not in her right mind to consent. Does that apply to men too?

  • Wow Nan is going to have alot to tell the priest next time she goes to confession.

  • her own bestfriends boyfriend? shes a ho!

  • I hate Nan for seducing Jack. This part of the movie drives me crazy!

  • niice Nan! A drunk man who loves someone else...you must be proud! Score for you!

  • the Nans of this world are nothing more than dumb whores who worship the middle class but will stop at nothing 2 right their wrongs even if it means doin wrong to someone else they are grimey and bitches i dont feel sorry for them. do they feel sorry for their victims? no any they aren't all that pretty i seen better we all have

  • yeah their victims are the world, and nothing is ever enough

  • Oh dear Nan... your plans didn't quite work out did they - you silly girl! On the other hand " The rules of fair play do not apply in love and war". A girl didn't have to worry about DNA testing then either. Oh golly - it boggles the mind....

  • yes, Nan you are stupid. you can't kill your baby but you can commit premarital sex sin.

  • whats she thinkin falling for an englishman. seriously now.

  • MUSTACHE!

  • Saffron Burrows' accent is all over the map in this part.

  • jack is not a saint either. from the beginning he already had an eye for nan, but she ignored him so he went for her friend. what kind of guy who is really in love with a woman would agree to marry another simply because she is pregnant? a part of him must find it agreeable to spend the rest of his life being married to nan.

  • @tulipx2006 Back then, if you knocked a girl up, you married her. Nowadays you don't even have to return her phone call.

  • "Needn't ever happen again" huh? in the book she let it happen at least times IN EVE'S COTTAGE TOO!

    what a B__***

  • nan mahon is a F***ing BITCH!!!!

  • so did she just sleep with jack so he'd think it was his baby? ugh bitch!!!

  • AAAAAAAAAA I HATE SEAN

  • Nan is a selfish bi*ch.......she didn't have the guts to succeed on her own, so she uses other people........God! I know so many people just like her :-(

  • she knows she's got nothing else but her pretty face and depends on that. she doesn't even think of succeeding, just marrying a rich guy. she is more foolish than she is selfish.

  • is still think i was all on nan jack was drunk off his ass and nan sudeuced him ugh

  • what a hypocrite. she is a Catholic, against abortion, but condones sleeping around. huh

  • her first time was with that rich guy. she got real desperate being pregnant so she decided to use jack. but he is also to blame for he wasn't that drunk. she's just so scared being trapped in poverty, seeing how her dad abused her mom and she wanted to escape from all that. she thought her prettiness could rescue her but she was wrong.

  • but its still messed up. that shows she didn't respect herself enough as a Catholic, and as a person. i think she was naive, really.

  • She's also a user and manipulator.

  • @cincinnati107 yeah, she was totally saying she didn't believe in Catholicism during the whole Infant of Prague scene...now she totally switches gears.

  • i dreaded this part when Nan hooked-up w/ Jack.

  • bääääähhhhh..that sean is so creepy!

  • oh nan now your a catholic you dirty bitch how could they do that to benny thats so messed up

  • Nan is so mean just b/c she screwed up her life doesnt mean she needs to take everyone down

  • Both Nan AND Jack should have partial blame put on each of them...

They BOTH did wrong, whether they planned it or not.

    I just think, poor Benny...

  • Why is everyone here putting so much blame on Nan? Certainly her actions are morally ambiguous, but Jack is the one cheating on Benny. His actions are absolutely not morally ambiguous. He's not innocent in this.

  • because she was so calculated about it, she had everything planned, yes, jack should have been stronger and resisted her attempts at seducing him but she knew exactly what she was doing and to whom. and didnt care so long as she was taken care of.

  • Your exactly right of course, except "didn't care so long as she "and her baby" were taken care of", still a good comment. In an evil way,"necessity was the mother of invention". Everyone's letting RICH BOY off the hook.

  • Nan is awful for doing that to Jack and to her friend. I understand why she did it, but it was wrong nonetheless.

  • that pleace in the beginning is lovely

  • Why did Nan treat her mother that way, in the book they were very close.

  • Nan's father treats his daughter like a princess and his wife like a dog!

  • You should read the book. He is just a bully. But they all worship Nan. I feel quiet sorry for Nan. Read the book (if you haven't already), much better than the film, gives you real insight to 1950's Ireland.

  • thanks but I did try to get the book from my local library and several other libraries on long island in new york but they don't have it.

  • You should come to Ireland. Maeve Binchy (the author of Circle of Friends) is massive here. I love all her books. You should try amazon or someone like that. I really cant stress how much you should read the book. If you cant get it at all, I will send it to you. You will love it.

  • thanks, I would love to go to Ireland. I've been to the UK because I have family in Nottingham. I will really try to find the book. thanks for your advice.

  • you see that so often!

  • omg nan is such a bitch!!!!!!!! she gon make him believe he got her pregnant!

  • Simon's the bitch! what would you've done, if he treated you like that?

  • she knew what she was getting into...simon was being a regular man showing her his wisdom

  • if she was going to sink to trapping a man who's baby it wasn't, she could have chosen one that her best friend wasn't in love with. she could have had any guy, and she chose benny's boyfriend. that's why she's a bitch. and yes, simon's a bitch as well.

  • Yeah, but she had to choose someone she could rely on. She knew Jack and that he was a good person and would marry her straightaway without asking a lot. In a situation like hers I'd take the safe guy too, no matter if my friend is in love with him or not... The decision definitely does not make her more congenial but it's understandable. btw they easily could have used contraception, Simon is British, he wouldn't even need an excuse to go to England and buy some condoms...

  • ditto

  • @emousejapanimation Maybe Nan thought that if she was going to be tied to a father for her baby forever, she chose somebody she would like, and tried to pick a good guy who would do the honorable thing. Then it was somebody who wanted to have sex so it was easier. She originally was looking for someone else in the pub huh? Before she spotted him.

  • @RandiSierra Yes, she was looking for someone else, but couldn't find him. She couldn't wait one more day or week until she had a shot at someone else?

Besides, she only slept with Simon to get pregnant. She meant to trap him into marriage but he wasn't so stupid as to marry the slut. If she cared about liking who she would be tied to she should have chosen with her heart and not her empty wallet. The last to deserve this was Bennie. URGH!!

  • @noutubeusrnames Well back in those days especially. She was desperate to find a father for the child, and a husband. That other guy offered to buy her a drink when she walked in, but it was the rest of her life she was dealing with. So she picked him, gorgeous, generous, sweet, wholesome, tender, etc. Wouldn't be the same story otherwise.

  • @RandiSierra True, it wouldn't be the same story without Nan's betrayal and you do love to hate her for it.... but, you have to admit that what ever her reasons behind it, her actions were selfish and cruel.

  • @emousejapanimation coño escribe en cstellsn

  • @emousejapanimation she knew Jack was a stand up man who WOULD marry her knowing he made a child. That's why; he was a safe bet. She wasn't giving an eff about anyone but herself.

  • @emousejapanimation No she couldn't have had any guy. She chose Benny's boyfriend because he was an innocent faithful catholic from a good family who was raised to do the right thing and he WOULD no matter what and he would never have the slightest suspicion. She chose him because he was the kind of guy who would honor a responsibility, she couldn't have done that with another she was not sure had those values. Remember she was a virgin until she met that older man who knocked her up.

  • @simplenametag So he was the only honorable Catholic in Ireland, so she had no choice? Get real.

  • @simplenametag I agree with girlbassit, get real. I am sure this girl knows plenty of guys. And he couldn't of been the only honorable catholic guy she knew.....who wasn't her bestfriend's man. So she is a shitty person. And before you call him "that older man" remember she seeked him out, she planned this. He wasn't the seducer here. She wanted to marry and set out to do it.

  • @channelvision98 Saffron nailed this part. Wonderful acting. Dealing with the time era, Catholic upbringing. Couldn't have been so bad, they both forgave her and she was sorry. She was going to start showing, acted out of desperation not deadly sin. Has rude awakening some guys aren't honorable, left home set out to look for someone else, in this moment of extreme anxiety realizes it would be guaranteed, he has highest morals, the sweetest of the bunch, handsome, everybody likes him, etc.

  • @RandiSierra But more important than all of that her bestfriends man and a sweetest of the bunch as you say. If that's true why even engage in that sort of behavior with him. I hate to say "do that to him" because he had free will. But it was obvious she was doing a lot of seducing and just because she was forgiven didn't make it not so bad. Hell, I think doing that to someone you are on friendly terms with is shitty doing it to your bestfriend makes you a shitty person.

  • @channelvision98 She was TRULY sorry. They forgave her as God would do. They understood she wasn't in her right mind. Totally bottom of the barrel desperate the worst anxiety possible. Shame, religion, community, respectable behavior, etc. etc. etc. It wouldn't have been a story otherwise. If she knew anything about the world she wouldn't have gone for a guy like that in first place. She had to learn the hard way. At the end of the day Saffron was the bomb in this part!

  • @RandiSierra I understand that. But the truth is, she orchestrated everything, and the men were foolish and have will enough to follow her so I am not accusing her of their sins. But she orchestrated her relationship and then pregnancy expecting him to marry her. And I think the only think she learn is that things don't always go your way. The actress was brilliant in portraying her walk down that path and then to see the desperation after. The is a clear case of "brought on oneself".

  • @RandiSierra And don't get me wrong when things aren't going right for her and he is being cruel to her I feel sympathy and all. But I remember her orchestrating meeting him and trying to get him to marry her because she's rich. But I didn't care about that as much as then orchestrating to sleep with her bestfriend's man. When she scheme......you should expect other people to do the same and to treat you just as poorly.

  • @channelvision98 *he's rich....

:) oh and I am glad they forgave her I just don't like people making excuses for her bad behavior

  • @channelvision98 Yeah, then he had no experience. Not really sure about the course of his life for all his admiration of Benny. Nan and he had to lose everything before they got it. She wasn't a harlot at heart. Even though she messed up beyond words in every aspect and was not a good friend, they both still wanted the best for her and her future. Colin Firth and Alan Cumming's characters were the real jerks. And as nice as a protective friend is Eve (was it?) took it too far.

  • @RandiSierra My bestfriend is a complete softie and if someone did that to her I'd be furious perhaps if I found out it was another dear friend I'd be excessively pissed. Considering what a sweet person my bestfriend is, the kind that wouldn't hurt a fly. For someone to hurt her...I can understand eve. Nan doesn't deserve much of my sympathy because as I said she orchestrated much of this but no one should have to hear someone baldly ask her to kill her baby. Still, I am glad they forgave her.

  • @RandiSierra I do understand eve but her behavior was a bit much I agree. After all nan was pregnant. Still I totally understand.

  • thank for up this thanks sorry my english is bad

  • can't believe simon is darcy! so different!

  • this is the only film ive not found colin firth attractive in! its because simon is such a foul character
