For as much as Elfman gets labeled the "dark" composer or the "zany" composer, he really deserves credit for these sweet and quiet moments that are all over his soundtracks. For me, this was the highlight of the HB2 score. Not to say I don't like a bit of dark & zany.
when i listen to 2:20 untill the end, i understand that music like lady gaga, or the looser justin bieber does not excist. i realise that music isn't 3 notes and 5 words, but a symphony of musical instruments played by real people.
You are all Geniusess! i have been Obsessed with the bit from 2.35 onward, a sI was sure i had heard it before somewhere! Lady in the Water! you legends!
Thanks, but some other guy already directed me to Lady in the Water. While I can see a certain direction, I'd never even dare to THINK, Danny Elfman would've ripped J. N. Howard off on his soundtrack. Like I already said: Danny Elfman's the last one who'd need to rip off other composers. He is just so original!
I like "A Dilemma" more than Lady in the Water. Especially 2:20 - 2:50 ... like I said ;)
@CalamityCain 2.20- 2.50 is the part which sounds very J-N-H like. Almost interchangeable. This is not a bad thing, it just shows that the level of present-day movie composers are of an exceptional calibre :)
I guess I can live with that. On a personal level - I still prefer Danny Elfman. Sorry, I know I've been a bit fanboy-ish, but it just couldn't be helped ;)
I like many composers on par with each other, but especially Danny Elfman, James Newton Howard and James Horner. Oh and of course, John Williams. They are my main favourites. :)
for anyone saying Danny Elfman copied Lady in the Water he did not, it may sound familiar yes, but unless it is the direct key and notes then no, there is no copyright infringment.
Right! Danny Elfman's the last one who'd ever need to copy any existent themes or musical scores of any kind. I think he's one of the most recognizable film music composers of our time. Hell, I love the guy!
You can always tell what music is composed by Danny Elfman through his distictive sound and his signature female choir sound, which I think is his best feature in his music.
this is so beautiful ..the second movie is very cool...but sad ..

You guys would be wise to learn your history. Both LITW and HB "Dilemma" cues are a ripoff of Pachelbel's canon in D.

@WoodlandAsh
Right, John Williams! I mean Star Wars, Indiana Jones and - my favourite - Jurassic Park says it all, I guess ;)
I also like Basil Poledouris for RoboCop, Starship Troopers and especially for Conan The Barbarian which is my most favourite OSTs of all times :)

@MichelleSeven They really are exceptionally similar pieces.

@CalamityCain Couldnt agree more, I just wish there was more if it. I have been searching for this since the movie came out.

omg, you are right!!! that's against the copyright law!

Elfman has become so much stronger as a composer over the years. He has managed to grow in skill without losing his distinct style.

Such a soft and elegant sound.
