@OwenDWF Never said he did, he's the Ex-Producer thus he's responsible for EVERYTHING and every aspect of every episode he puts his name on. Sorry for any confusion.
Well, he gives a brief description of what he wants. He would meet Mark and say "I want you to do Daleks, Winston Churchill and WW2 and he and Winston are good chums"
And thats all he would say. The rest is up to the writer. Steven will just nod for approval in phone calls when ideas are discussed further. Odd thing is, i actually enjoyed VOTD. I dunno why. I think the episode meets a poor reception just because of the Paradigm Daleks.
@OwenDWF I think VOTD gets nailed because it seemed to either pull too much from other shows, a robot that wants to be human ala Data from TNG, a way to talk a robot bomb down from exploding, and why would daleks, have a device that when opened makes pure daleks, but then make it impossible for other daleks (half-breed) ones to open. No matter who opened it, it was going to make pure Daleks... pure Teletubby coloured daleks. And the Churchill actor looked NOTHING like Churchill. Epic Fail! :)
the thing about victory of the daleks is the older daleks succeeded in fooling the doctor and creating a new pure dalek race right, wrong when where the daleks ever blue or red, davros would be turning in his grave, and who made the progenator anyway, why would the daleks make something that only the doctor could open, and since it can create pure daleks, why not make it so anyone can activate it, daleks seam rather stupid to me, bring back the old ones.
@scissorphilip A lot of your logic is good, but the progenator was made so only REAL Daleks could open it, sort of like a reverse Pandora box, and they used the Doctor to prove to the progenator (stupid I know) that they were really Daleks. I guess you wouldn't want just anyone opening it, and somehow altering the Daleks and using them for their own devices. Just a thought.
I loved The Eleventh Hour, The Beast Below and Victory of the Daleks, but compared t the Time Of Angels they look like re-runs of Love and Monsters. To be honest, the episodes I didn't like were Vincent and the Doctor and Vampires of Venice. I found them really boring!
Man This whole series blew chunks, so much so that even River and the Pandorica couldn't save it. If this had been the first series of the new episodes maybe, but following Eccleston and the brilliance of Tennant, this was a tremendous letdown. What was supposed to be the Doctor's big moment, when he dares any or all of the enemies to attack and they fly away, is in retrospect laughable, because they are only leaving since they are waiting for the Pandorica to power up.
i love when the doctor is like but it didnt make the noise and she is like what noise and he starts doing a wheezeing like breathing to demonstrate the noise and she is like its not supposed to make that noise and it sounds lie that cause you leave the breaks on and question whern u leave the brakes on in a car doesnt that damage the car imagine the tardis breaks down someone and the other girl with red hair she is like the doctor has gone bonkers
I'm liking the Moffat works, but it does get a bit annoying that they insist on heavy-duty changes - or outright errors in continuities and kind of shrug them off. The TARDIS landing sounds are one - yes, it made a funny joke, but it's incredibly wrong - or have ALL Time Lords been running with the breaks on all these years? We've heard other TCs land, and they all sound the same (so much for stealth, you nutty Gallifreyians!).
And is it me, or did we NOT need Power Ranger Daleks? And our we ever going to see OUR universe's Cybermen? I mean, come on - they were not created by a corporation in the PRIME universe
No I liked them as well, I have been following the Doctor since 1970 with Joh Pertwee, think this one has that quirky edge, he is more like my childhood Doctors then the last one.....and I enjoyed the Doctor o so much....think they are taking him back to his roots
I'm sure Moffat will have the Doctor putting the "brakes" back on. Though, I never really did like all the tossing about, though visually more interesting. Maybe just turn one of the stabilizers off. ;)
Nice little mashup there Kelvington, I agree, besides the first ep of MS, the other 2 were kinda meh. Too much crammed in there and rushed. The Time of Angels really knocked it out of the park!
I like Steven Moffats writing in the last series (Blink and Girl in the fireplace) but I think he's changing things just for the sake of it... Gonna take a while to accept the new Daleks but to say that the noise of the TARDIS landing might be going... Not at all happy.. This episode was better but its got a long way to go to beat Russell T Davis' writing... Have to wait and see
@LegoScotsMan Not only that, they'll rip out your cerebral cortex and use it to lure others to their doom! (Shivers.) But yes, This is what the viewing public have been waiting for, a rip roaring adventure to scare the kids witless! : ))
Is " Encounter at Far Point " the name of the first ever Episode of Star Trek - the Next Generation ? im sure it is , thou i never saw the Beast Below as a rip-off .
Well i havint seen the Pilot TNG Episode for absolutely ages so im gonna have to find it on YouTube and re-watch it sometime to notice the simularity's between it and the Beast Below .
Odd, most people i've spoken to have enjoyed the past few episodes (the dalek one being the only semi-dud, but even then it was only good, rather than excellent or outstanding)
@crimsong19 Same, enjoyed the Dalek one (but of course I'm always fond of the Daleks and it had Winston Churchill, who would defintely be on my top five list of historical figures to meet!) but found the Beast Below a little lacking. Not 100% why - the Smilers were quite impressive and it's a joy to see the Demon Headmaster on TV after so long but... neh, it could have run better, and was on occasion hard to follow.
But this week's story was stunning. Loved every minute of it. :)
Moffat did not write Victory of the Daleks. Mark Gattis did.

The Victory of the Daleks was a good opening for later dalek stories, If you are complaining so much, why don't you go and do it better!
