  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this!! I have always loved this song, along with all of the Alien films.

  • got the music from the scene where the capsules open after the crew were sleeping at the minute 1:27 ? at least the name?, thank you

  • @Silviatube2006 I mean in the movie of course not in this vid

  • @Silviatube2006 Yes. I believe that cue is called "Hypersleep," from the OST. And I DO have that on mp3. If you send me an email address to my YouTube inbox, I will send it to you, if you wish.

  • excelent! brilliant!

  • EPIC MUSIC SCORE. EPIC MOVIE. Thank you Mr. Scott for expanding further more this amazing Space Horror Universe with Prometheus.

  • In case anyone was wondering, this specific theme within Hanson's No. 2 symphony "Romantic" is called the Interlochen theme, and it is played at every concert at Interlochen at the end while the conductor is leaving the stage. Tradition holds that no one applauds while the conductor leaves to this music.

  • @lobonize That's correct! I live in Michigan, and have heard that music many times at Interlochen. I never tire of it.

  • I've been looking for this music for years. Thanks for posting!

  • @rwoodlan You are welcome---glad you found this music. It's quite extraordinary. The entire symphony is also superb. I would be happy to send you the entire work on mp3 if you wish. It is performed by a different orchestra, but it's nice to hear it in the context of the symphony. Just send me a message with an email. Ta.

  • @darkprose Yes, please send it. You are too kind! When I say "for years," I sincerely mean since I saw "Alien" during it's first run in Times Square in 1979. I just celebrated my 60th birthday; thanks for the gift.

  • Great work Darkprose ! I never get tired of watching and listening to this Ripley/Aliens tribute ! You've combined a classic score by the great american composer Howard Hanson , Sci Fi / horror classic movies by Ridley Scott and James Cameron , and America's greatest female heroine Ripley / Sigourney Weaver on a classicYouTube video. Thanks again !

  • @goislesgo64 Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Darkprose... After a mesmerizing long day! Nothing more soothing to the ears along with the visuals of this fabulous trailer from yesteryear .Thanks for posting and keep up the great work!

  • @1957thack I'm very pleased this little montage continues to be a small joy for people---all due to Ripley and Hanson, of course! But thank you for your words.

  • The only good Alien movie was the 1st especially for the music. They ruined it when they started making it kid friendly (making action figures with little kids in the commercials and sequels, predator etc...) Way to ruin a classic.

  • good video but i would have liked seeing more from aliens movie..the stuff with newt and the way she looks with hicks would have went well with what you were going for in this video..nevertheless...i really liked what you did

  • @4516232 Thank you. I know this is going to sound like I'm an asshole, which, okay, I probably am, but, truth be told, I'd love to see your take on a Ripley tribute. I'm saying, "okay, so you make one, then," but, seriously, make one! I'd watch it, favorite it and share it on Facebook. There are are almost ten hours worth of footage I had to choose from, so mathematically, the different kinds of videos, or even ones far superior to mine, are almost endless. So, give it a go.

  • For instance, I could have filled every scene with Ripley and her interactions with others---there are countless great ones that come to mind, but I really wanted to situate her in the context of the films, of their atmosphere, hence the inserts of planets, ships, computer screens and the alien, itself. But there are literally countless other ways to have done this. Actually, I'd love to see Alien fans each make one to this music, and see their individual take, what they leave out and keep in.

  • 2:40 reminded me of Halo 3. Cortana: I'll miss you.

Master Chief: Wake me when you need me......

  • Simply superb and so touching. Using Hanson's music was a stroke of genius.

  • "Cargo and ship destroyed."

She died. But at least she died for something she believed in.

    Fuck the corporations.

  • @technologic21 lol, agreed. Nice to know that capitalism is alive and well in the, what, 23rd century? 24th?

  • @darkprose 24th century

  • @darkprose I swear, in all these movies, greed is the real monster, not the xenomorphs. That's what really creeps me out. All those people died like cattle all because of the goddamn company.

  • oh. the end of the movie. i wonder if there were still humans on earth then

  • what was ripley's clone looking at in 1:19

  • @avadod Earth.

  • The other members of the crew kane, lambert, parker, brett ,ash and captian dallas are dead. Cargo and ship destroyed. I should reach the frontier in 6 weeks with a little luck they might pick me up. This is ripley the last survivor of the nostromo, singing off

  • Beautiful tribute....you have truly captured the spirit of Ellen Ripley...

  • @maxwesty Thank you very much. It's the music, though, I think. It's so evocative and bold and a little melancholy and lonely, too.

  • @darkprose yes, this piece is very sentimental to me....my father dedicated this to my mother as a profession of their love....and my mom's name was Ellen...so this really made me smile....thanks for making it!

  • @maxwesty Hmm, that is uncommonly sweet.

  • @darkprose thank you, their story parallels the meloncholy...YouTube continues to prove itself as a vessel designed to show each individual that "we are not alone"

  • @maxwesty Really? Hmm, because I always feel more acutely aware that I am alone.

  • @darkprose I feel that way too...perhaps the inspiration for this tribute you have created....In many ways YouTube may signify the beginning of the end....lol

We are all sitting in front of our screens remembering our greatest influences, paying hommage to others work whilst validating our own visions...the internet as a whole is the prime example of comfort in isolation.

  • @maxwesty Hmm, very true. "Comfort in isolation." I'm going to give another few years, then I'll buy a gun.

  • @darkprose me too, mine will have laser sighting!

  • @maxwesty, I like the cut of your jib.

  • Underneath this message, click on "darkprose," which will send you to my channel. On my channel, beneath the video, you will see "darkprose," and my icon, which is a black square, and next to that it will say "subscribe," and "send message." Hit the "send message" button. • Hi there, thank you for responding to my question about the mp3. Silly question - where may I find your "in box"?

    Thanks!

  • WOW. Just viewed this for the first time today....must have played it 20 times! I really like this arrangement! I bought the symphony no. 2 but didn't care for the version (erich kuenzel). Do you know where I could find an mp3 of the version you used? Brilliantly made by the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ilm1138 Thank you. I'm not sure what the orchestra or conductor is, but it's from the Alien soundtrack (i.e., the version used at the end of the film). I can send you the mp3 if you wish. Send me an address to my inbox.

  • @darkprose Howard Hanson is the conductor there is a site that will turn this into a mp3 for you or maybe i can email it to you..truly classic music. jerry gold smith scored the alien movie...

  • Nicely edited and I like the way you used the scenes in that order as the melody fits the scenes beautifully. Well done, good to watch.

  • @gary72carol61 Thank you very much -- that's the very most I could have hoped for!

  • Nothing says "Alien" like this bit of Hansons 2nd, even though it wasn't composed for the film. Favourite filem ever.

  • @jedw Yes, I completely agree and that's why I was surprised to find that there wasn't a billion other videos that were already like this. I didn't think this was a particularly original or unique idea, so I thought this would be one among many but, apparently not.

  • Ellen ripley will be the one and only best heroine for me, and so for others.

Sigourney weaver is an amazing actress, I wanna meet her. :)

  • Yes, those were the days. 2001 was way ahead of it's time. Star Wars later paved the way for blockbuster sci fi movies and introduced the 'used universe', which became a visual inspiration for Scott, who then gave his own dark twist to it, when he made Alien.

  • @Darkprose

Definitely! Alien and Blade Runner were epic.

  • @Robkinggozer Yes, precisely. Those are arguably in the top ten list of greatest sci-fi films, I think. Surely Blade Runner is. They really redefined and reshaped the genre, along with Metropolis, 2001 and Star Wars, among others...

  • They can never bring back the feeling I had watching the old movies anyway. Especially not without Ripley. I'm kind of glad that as it turns out, Scott's movie won't be a direct prequel.

  • @Robkinggozer I'm getting very excited by the thought of another sci-fi from Scott no matter what the story. He's brilliant in that realm.

  • Such a Superb piece of Music !! Hats off too R. Scott for making one of the best! If not the best Sci -Fi Flick ever... & Jerry Goldsmith for including this piece from H. Hanson. LoVELY!!!

  • @1957thack Agreed, on all points. I hope that Scott's prequel does justice to the original idea and brings the series back to its roots. It would be wonderful if they would reprise some of the late Goldsmith's themes and perhaps even bring back the "Romantic," too.

  • @darkprose I hadn't heard of the prequel. Just researched it, and Scott has scrapped the idea of a prequel, but the new film will have Alien DNA strands in it, but will be an original film titled "Prometheus." (slated for March 2012)

  • @traderduke Ah, thanks for the info. I'll have to look that up.

  • not bad for Horror rip off from B Grade movies... the score for Alien' was truly magnificent right throughout the movie....Thanks heaps to jerry goldsmith & Ridley Scott... the movie was perfectly conceived

  • Gyönyörű!

  • Beautifully editted with that amazing symphony, really well done!!! Great tribute and reminds me of how spectacular, classic sci-fi flicks are ;-)

  • @LukeMM95 Thank you very much for the kind words.

  • EPIC. GREAT RE-IMAGINING! ONE OF THE BEST EVER. EXCELLENT WORK. DON'T STOP. KEEP CREATING!!!!! THANK YOU.

  • Nice editing. Lovely.

  • c,est magnifique !!!!!! great job darkprose !!!

  • @jacknapier37 Thank you very much for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • Superb!

  • @zerokomma Thank you -- you have some great videos, as well. Anyone who enjoyed this vid should definitely check out your channel as well!

  • Nicely edited. Now I just want to watch all the films back to back.

  • @TK42138 Not at bad idea. Alien-athon.

  • This song definately made the ending of Alien all the more satisfying, it has a moment of releif but it also has some loneliness since its in space, i used to love hearing this song whenever i watched alien and wished they'd use it again for Alien 3 after her death.

  • @theero Yes, that's my experience of it, as well.

  • interlochen theme!

  • @killywillythepenguin That's right. Well done.

  • I love this piece... and I really, really love what you've done with it. Excellent.

  • @kgreene317 I love it, too. It brings me joy every time I hear it, but it also has this bittersweetness as well. It's wonderfully rich music. I'm glad you enjoyed its context here.

  • This is the most beautiful three minutes of music ever recorded, in my opinion. I love Hanson's entire Symphony No. 2 in general, but the end of the first movement is beyond sublime. Like other people on here have said, I envision my own storyline to this music. It just has that effect, I think...

  • @eldusto84 It is fantastic stuff, like a pulsing wave of warmth and strength. It's very endearing.

  • thanks bud I was able to make an mp3 of this wonderful song

  • Smashing

  • A great clip i enjoyed it . A good tribute to one of cinemas best heroes.

  • Very well done, Darkprose.

  • Thank you, Jim.

  • Who cares about AVP...those movies were lame. .Xenomorphs kick way more ass.

We want Alien 5 Ridley! Take us back to the glory of the series!

  • Would enjoy working with you on an endeavor using the third movement of Hanson's Symphony No. 2...Great work on this...I remember when I first viewed the original "Alien" movie, I was working on my Master's Degree in Orchestra Conducting and when I heard the strain from the first movement, I stood up and yelled out "HANSON'S SYMPHONY NO.2 THE ROMANTIC!!!"...My wife was visibly perturbed and annoyed. This is one of two symphonies I would enjoy trading ideas with you...The other...Copland's 3rd.

  • Love the music.................dreamy

  • This almost made me cry ! Ripley is one of the great characters in cinema history. And Weaver should have won the Oscar for her performance in "Aliens".

  • Love the way you made the music and video fit!

    Awesome work!

Watching and listening to this never gets old to me!

  • Great work with your shot selection and editing to match the Hanson music.

I still think Hanson's music had a sense of too much emotional release at the end of Alien, even if it does have an eerie dreamlike mood. I doubt the character of Ripley , or even more so the audiences who saw the film in 1979, really felt able to let go of the previous 60 minutes of non-stop intensity and horror. I thought Goldsmith's cues in the last 10 minutes of the film were more appropriate as a resolution.

  • Perhaps. I certainly love Goldsmith's music, but if you recall, the second symphony is heard right as the alien is vanquished and blown into space. And though the horror and intensity is difficult to shake off, Hanson's music underscores both the triumph and strength of Ripley and the overall beauty of deep space and the film itself. At that moment, I welcome the contrast. But, that is certainly a matter of taste.

  • @darkprose. I didn't have enough space in my original comment and I find it hard to put the issue of the Hanson/Goldsmith music into conscise words. First, Hanson's music is beautiful, while I don't really feel Goldsmith's end credits cue fits the mood. I wonder if Goldsmith should have used silence (as in the 'Planet of the Apes' end credits). I agree with you that I prefer the use of Hanson's music after the Alien is ejected, but I would still have expected more uncertainty in the music.

  • Yes, I find it difficult to express as well, given how deeply visual and aural the whole thing. Silence is always an option. The silence when we press in on Ripley, Snow White-like, in suspended animation, is certainly effective. I can see how total silence during the credits would work, certainly. Still, the "Romantic" always felt right to me. There is that slight hesitation in the music at the very end, just before the final note, sounded by the brass that always struck chills in me.

  • @darkprose I understand the feeling that you are conveying when you commented on the Hanson Symphony...I REALLY enjoy the third movement and have a storyline to go with it...It has to do with my young son taking his first cross country flight on his own and the storm the flight ran into...I hope you listen to it and can in-vision and relate to this and maybe see what I see and hear. Take Care and thanks for the rhythm...

  • @meanmon Thank you for the comments. One of the wonderful things about pure music, like symphonic music, is that in its musical meaning it can speak to many different people and conjure up many different ideas, memories and feelings. In fact, no one probably hears the music in exactly the same way (of course, that's true of almost everything). I haven't listened to this symphony in a while, but I will have to hear it again. Again, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.

  • @darkprose I still didn't express it properly in two comments. Anyway, the whole point is your video and you did great work which I'll look forward to replaying frequently.

  • @dafmurray, well, either way, thank you for the comments and the discussion. I love talking film and music.

  • Darkprose - This is my favorite YouTube video, ever. I consider it a work of art on its own. I keep it open as one of my tabs on my browser, so I can listen to it instead of commercials (it's just the right length for most TV commercials, and so much more comforting and pleasurable).

Thank you, sincerely, for making this!

  • I'm very glad you enjoy it, thank you.

  • Beautiful video ! Thanks so much for share and best regards from South America !

  • this is a beautiful peice but where or which album did you get it from, a howard hanson one or an alien soundtrack album?

  • is this music peice in the alien soundtrack cd?

  • Rather than use some powerful piece by his composer, Jerry Goldsmith, Scott skillfully chose this masterwork by Hanson......It ended Alien so well. Thanks.

  • @boxerinj

In fact, it wanst R. Scott decision' use Howard Hanson beautiful Second Symphony "Romantic", it was Senior Editor Terry Rawlings (who again use Hanson music on Alien 3). In "Alien" also was used music from 1962 movie "Freud" which arent included in any "Alien" soundtracks (original or "complete")

  • @cyberpolo hmmm, Scott says it was his idea on the Alien commentary.....the man misrepresents?

  • @MrSunlander

I don't know, my friend! The web searching for the real end titles (the Hanson' Symphony No. 2 Adagio) allow me to read a couple of things about this controversy. The most accurate comment come from Craig Pettigrew, an Interlochen Alumni and "Alien 3" music editor.

  • @cyberpolo No offense, I hate contradicting anyone so kind as to post this. I just heard it on the DVD.....

  • @MrSunlander, I think, if Rawlings was responsible, it could be an honest mistake on Scott's part. After all, it was made in 1979, memories are fallible and with a collective effort of a huge film like Alien, often the origins of ideas are lost to the sands of time. Just listening to commentary for The Simpsons, for example, there is often confusion over where a certain joke came from, and sometimes differing opinion.

  • @cyberpolo I have an Alien soundtrack collection that includes all the Freud cues. I don't remember where I got it, or when, but it has every single music cue used in the film, I believe.

  • @darkprose

Good !. Hope you can find it sometime. Thanks for your comments. So long, my friend. My thoughts of peace and love to you and everyone who enjoys this beautiful video !

  • This is the best tribute of Ripley and the Alien Series!!!! SUPERB!!

  • Thank you. I am glad this little montage has touched people. It's my favorite.

  • Beautiful.

    Very Beautiful.

    Thank you.

  • Thank YOU. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • Thanks for posting this incredible work of art.

  • Magnificent. Thank you for sharing!

  • Thank you, and you're welcome.

  • Part of this piece (0:16 - 1:57) is used as the theme for the Interlochen Music Camp in northern Michigan.

    It's played after each performance.

Once you've been there, you never forget it. Even 50 years later.

  • Yes, that's right.

  • I dont supose anyone knows where i can get this version on mp3.

    Good video aswell:D

  • i always see your video and ripley

    :D

  • who have made this video(excuse my english) its a genius and "ripley" must to send greetings (excuse my english again)

    congratulations :) great video ::)

  • Thank you!

  • debussy too?...alan poe? alan parsons?

  • I love them.

  • I liked the substitution of this music instead

    of what Goldsmith originally did.

I hate it wasn't included on the album

    soundtrack.

This was one of the rare exit music endings

that kept you in place until the very end!

Also enter the phrase "alien legacy" in the

search box to watch an awesome montage

of virtually the whole Alien series!

  • Yes, it strangely fits, and brings, musically at least, some element of hope and humanity to the final moments of the film. (Though, I also love Goldsmith's score -- the DVD allows you to watch the film with his music in place, and as a stand alone piece of music, it's also very fine.) I will have to check out the video you mention. Thank you for the comment.

  • This is one of the best vids I've seen on YouTube. Very good!

  • Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • A marvelous tribute!!

  • Free at last! Cathartic and yet very sad

  • Great tribute for Ellen! 5/5 and FAVE

  • Wow, thanks! This is a remake of the second You Tube video I ever did, but this one has much better video transfers. I am also going to re-do the very first one I made about Invader Zim. I just have to finish converting.
