I didn't realize this was a filmmaking contest! Fantastic! Get me the $20 million and we'll find out the answer to your question! (And you sure won't expect the ending I'll give you either.) - 1-Minute Critic
I just watched this movie last night, and I have to say I agree with you on most points, though not about Javier Bardem's character, who I thought was riveting in his methodical sociopathy. I think that the ending would have been more meaningful if the sheriff felt like a part of he movie and not an outsider who, as you said, really just showed up late to the actual story. The philosophy really felt forced and just removed me from the "theme" of randomness that Chigur's car scene left me with.
It's a good idea to make your reviews last only a minute, but I think you haven't really perfected your idea yet. I really think your videos might be better if they were shorter by about... a minute. Everyone would benefit.
That's a great idea, but unfortunately there was already a 1-Second Critic, so I had to stick with the one minute format. Damn. I wish you had posted your idea before I started doing this. - 1-Minute Critic
i am 100% a Mccarthy fan, i've read all his novels, and i agree with this review of NCFOM. the way the novel ended did not, IMHO, come off well as a movie. i was disappointed in the film. i believe "the Road" has potential to be a great movie, probably better than any other of Mccarthy's novels.
Moral? Theme? What kind of a person looks for the conventions of rationality in art? Especially in cinema, an inheritly inferior form of art where all of the construct is porvided to you by our most ovedependent of imaginitve tools, our eyes. You have called tis movie and There Will be Blood pretnious but there is nothing more pretentious than beliving one can efefectively summarize an artisitc endeavour no matter how crude you percieve it to be in one minute
theme? Why are you looking for a theme, do you expect movies to preach a specific morality,ot to an act as a debasment of the ills that plague society. You call it pretentious like you call there will be blood pretentious, but there is nothing on this planet more prentenious than beliving an effective summarization of an artisitc endeavour no matter how crude and unimpoerant (you may believe it to be)can be conjured in a minute.
Bullshit! The ending reinforced the ENTIRE movie theme!
To call it "weak" is to say that you don't understand it. I don't want to take the position of a pretentious movie elitist who thinks they know everything, and that everyone else is stupid, but I think if you thought the ending was a brief resolution that made no sense, you didn't understand the plot of the film in the first place.
You are thinking too Hollywood if you expected there to be a Moss-Sugar resolution, I think.
So what WAS the entire movie theme? I like your enthusiasm, but please explain to the rest of us in the dark exactly what you mean. Yes, violence is bad, and it's a hard world out there with random acts of violence that can paralyze someone with fear, but why does that justify boring scenes talking about it? And how does someone not understand the plot? I'm not being hostile, just trying to understand. Thanks. - 1-Minute Critic (
The theme was 1. an old man trying to make sence of an ever changing world and in the end find redemption for his own percieved inability to "stop whats coming".
2. Fate vs Coincidence and how far we can change either.
you're all pathetic, whining about the ending, idiots

I did. Still feel the same way, though you can enjoy it more knowing the ending is going to be disappointing. - 1-Minute Critic
