hI....Im really interested in seeing how you make the rest of the sock. im more of a visual person and it would be so helpful to see the rest of what you do. please and thank you.
Thank you for this video-it is so easy to understand! I am reading a Debbie Macomber book and there is a sock knitting class in it using circular needles that sounded interesting and now I'm going to make some socks! This method of casting on makes sense now! My granddaughters will love the new project to do with Oma(me!)! Loved the "booty shake"-something my hubby would do!
I've watched this video over and over and over again. I love the sound of your voice, such a pleasant change from the truly irritating voice of another instructor... And your laugh is infectious, thank you for making this segment. You've made a new friend. Have a great day!
Thank you so much! Yes, it still works :-) I can't wait to try these! My suggestion was for if you make another video, to make it easier for the viewer to tell which needle you're using. Thank you again for making this video!!! I can't tell you how glad I am not to have to attempt using douple points again (have never succeeded)!
What a great video! The only suggestion I would make is to use different colored circs so it's obvious which needle you're using. It was WONDERFUL to learn how to knit in the round without double pointed needles!!! Your video says to click on the right for a pattern for your slipper socks, but I can't find it. I would LOVE to try making your socks!
@Sqbrt Hi there, I was using two of the same needles, but different lengths, that way you can easily tell which you are using. Since the vid is old and YT has reformated where the description is, instead of on the right, open up underneath the video and you will find the link to the free pattern...if it still works! All kinds of info there when you open it up and read. Glad you liked the video!
Doing first sock! done heel and turned it but I am a left handed person pick knitting right handed! need a video on circular gusset and decrease. your video is very clear to see. Please, please, please will you continue your circular lessons for the whole sock?
@lizwashington1 Hi, great you got one sock done! I often get "second sock syndrome" and don't finishe the second one. So keep at it! ;-) Next time I make socks I will have to do the rest of the sock. I've been working on a baby blanket for my newest grandaughter. I'll be posting a vid of that tonight or tomorrow I hope! Gotta edit it still.
@zafdip LOL!!!! In my real job I'd get fired if I talked to every idiot like they were idiots, so I guess it now comes naturally! Besides, knitters, even beginner knitters, are NEVER idiots, only learning at different speeds. Some of us are visual learners (like me). Glad you enjoyed my vid. I hope to make more as the winter comes and life (hopefully) slows down!
I absolutely love this video. I am fairly new to knitting and really want to make socks. I am a bit intimidated by the patterns I have read, but I think maybe this slipper sock would be a good one to start with because the yarn and needles are bigger. Then maybe move on to smaller needles and yarn. Thanks so much for posting this video! And the pattern, I'm going to try this one very soon. I have to finish the shawl I am making for my mom first! LOL Happy Knitting!
I loved this, ravensky 23! I loved how close up it was, too (so there). Did you make one for turning the heel and doing the gusset? I am so very stuck--can't "see" how the heel flap joins (my working yarn never seems to be in the right place). Loved the bootie shot/shake, too. Great fun! Thank you.
Might I suggest placing the camera father away and moving around a lot less, and focusing before starting? Everything was so close to the camera and moving around so much that it made me motion sick, and then I couldn't see what you were doing at all.
Sorry about the motion sickness! Here are some virtual Dramamine pills for you! oooooo I'm not a professional and I'm the first one to admit I'm a far better knitter than I am a videographer! Do you knit? If you make a video let me know so I can learn how to improve mine. Thanks for watching!
You can improve the issues with your video simply by watching other well done knitting videos and learning. I would suggest a tripod, a basic piece of video equipment, to begin with. Then take test videos to make sure that everything is focused properly, and make a note of what is in screen and what is not, and attempt to stay within that area.
If I had that much time to devote to making videos I would never get anything knit! I'm a vlogger first, these videos are just for fun, I'm not trying to out do any other knitting videos, hell, I don't even have time to watch others videos. If I wanted it to be a profession I would quit work...not going to happen. Please watch the videos with the spirit of fun they were made with...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Might I suggest taking a deep breath, holding it for a moment, and then letting it out calmly and take your own advice before replying so rudely in the future. I merely made a comment about the quality of the video with legitimate suggestions on how to improve your own video, as you asked about in your own comment. There was no need to take such a hostile tone. Obviously nothing about this video was fun for you at all.
Have been knitting for years and can knit most things but have never tried socks, and suddenly have a 'need' (do you know what I mean ?!!!) to knit socks. Thanks for your video, I'm off to start my sock on circ needles - do not get on with the DPNS.
i am in australia and the guages for yarn are different....i don't understand what sport weight is...is it lighter? like for baby knits? i have knit and crochet for years but never tried socks and want to get it right.....i guess i could practice with anything really? what do you suggest?
Yes, very much like a baby weight yarn. If you Google "sock yarn" you will find plenty. There are so many kinds it is hard to suggest just one. And. if you find a sock pattern you really like you can always adjust the gauge to any yarn so it will fit the pattern. Good luck! :-)
Debbie I just tried to do a pair on circular needles and I used the instructions in Socks Soar on Two Circulars and I got so confused when it said to move stitches to the other needle but I wasn't confident that I was even ON the right needle and sure enough I must not have been because it looked VERY wrong! lol I got mad and put them away and started socks on dpns and now I'm happy again! haha But I am going to try to circs again! :)
I have the right idea on how to start my sock but I am not sure on how to do the heel or the gusset on circular needles. I can do it on dpn. Is there a video that shows you how to do the heel and the gusset?
I have done sweater videos on YouTube. You can look in my "Knitting Vlogs Playlist" on my channel page and see them. But there are many instructional videos that are more professional than mine if you search the internet. I'm always available for specific questions, too.
You make it look so easy. I think I like it on the 2 circular needles instead of the 4 or 5 DPN's. I've tried a few times and had to rip out after a few rows. I'm new to knitting (I usually crochet). I need to find a place to get some really good yarn-I think that was part of my problem-crappy yarn. I did some research and found a yarn store but it is some distance from me. I'm just gonna have to make the trip there one day soon and look for that Merino yarn. It looks so soft!!
Judy most of the yarn I buy, I buy on the internet. Which is easier after you know what you are looking for. There are a lot of wools that are Merino and blends, like Merino and silk. I'm using two strands of sport weight yarn for these because I wanted a thicker sock and didn't have any worsted weight in Merino. There are TONS of sock yarns on the market. Some come in varigated and are "self-striping" which means as you knit it makes a pattern. "Super-wash" means you can machine wash and dry.
Okay, so first you do knitting rock and now knitting porn. Hmmmm. :D Well okay, it was a nice butt. Seriously though, what is the benefit of the two needles instead of just using the circular needles? Or is that because of the small size? My friend who got really far in the Sock Wars uses 4 needles to make them and kicks it for speed. Are these faster? I'm sending her a link to your video cuz anything that would make her socks faster would help her win the next SW. :) Great video.
Hi Liz! Because socks are so small, compared to a sweater or something where you would just use one circular needle, a lot of people use 4 or 5 double pointed needles. The way I show is faster, at least for me. I find each time you switch to a new needle takes time when using the double pointed and I often have stiches slide off the ends. But it's purely a matter of taste. There is also the Magic Loop method where you use one very long circ and knit both socks at once. I haven't tried that yet.
I have Addi's in every size except the new lace sizes. Someday I want to try them too, but I have SO MANY needles it's hard to justify buying more. ;-)
Because of being diabetic I always either use two needles or one large needle to do the cast on edge so the top of the sock doesn't hinder circulation.
Cool, I've never seen anyone else cast on like I do, most cast on to one circular needle and then separate the stitches in half and put the second half on a second needle.
hI....Im really interested in seeing how you make the rest of the sock. im more of a visual person and it would be so helpful to see the rest of what you do. please and thank you.

Yes, it is called Magic Loop Method. There are lots of videos, but I reccomend the Knit Picks one. It is the best explanation.
