By definition, history is progressist, it "progress" to give more rights. In the beginning of the last century, women could not vote and people had no vacation and syndicates barely existed. Can you explain me why in EVERY country of the world, people say that teacher are leftist ?
And, BTW, it's not really making things better that changing (imaginary) "liberal bias" with a conservative bias.
@MenwithHill Only if you don't go back more than 200 years. A broader historical perspective shows that the concept of individual rights and a democratic franchise has come and gone serveral times throughout history and around the world. The notion that history is on the side of these ideas is a dangerous conceit.
Leave it to Americans to try an re-write history. History is fact. You cant spin it to the left and you cant spin it to the right. Its the only thing left in the US that DOESN'T take a side.
Sadly, conservatives don’t want to teach our children about why the formation of The United States was such an incredible accomplishment. They would rather raise ignorant American children who will have to compete with children from other countries who are being taught the truth about America's forefathers and evolution etc. Thanks to conservatives, our children will be less informed and less able to compete. As the American empire falls, don’t forget to thank conservatives for their stupidity!
It always amazes me when conservatives say our country was founded on Christian values. Are they not aware that the U.S. was the world’s first ever secular democracy. U.S. Citizens were not required to acknowledge deities, or a leader appointed by a god, in order to be citizens? All other governments before The United States government had this requirement. Conservatives should be proud of being the first amongst all modern existing governments to have this form of government.
Wow, these people are really terrified of hearing anything except their own beliefs repeated over and over and seem to forget that theirs is not the only belief followed in Texas. Sounds like they are forcing their religious views on students in public schools. If their faith is so strong and true, what are they afraid of?

I hope Texas DOES change the textbooks. I remember, when I was going to school, the History texts were slanted to the Left so much it was practically Communist propoganda! The Left needs this severe rebuke. They cannot continue to indoctrinate children into being little communists. What is wrong with emphasizing America's Christian roots in a textbook? One could argue all textbooks already have a liberal slant because they have omitted the fact. In addition, have you been to an American College Campus recently? There is only liberal voices, no diversity of opinion & all conservative voices are shouted down. If liberals want fairness, maybe they should stop indoctrinating & giving far left one sided arguments on every issue. VOTE REPUBLICAN! PROUD BLACK REPUBLICAN!

I fuckin hate conservatives. Every time someone wants to tell the whole truth about anything they call it liberal bias. I don't see what the big deal is. American history books have always been full of lies & half truths anyway.
i guess it depends on one's perspective, but i feel the right tends to be much more disingenuous and hypocrictical. can't stand folks on the extreme ends of either side.
Idiots. There are no changed facts. A fact is a fact. The difference is in stating the fact, or interpreting the fact through a liberal worldview of moral relativism and American evil. Just state the facts, that's all that's needed. And to the idiot that commented about Columbus, he may not have been the first one here, but damned if he wasn't the one that did something with it.
How many news articles and quotes do you want? Here's one quote from one of the board members, which ironically doesn't have a historian, "We're in an all-out moral and spiritual civil war for the soul of America, and the record of American history is right at the heart of it." In the context of "
Two of them want to remove or de-emphasize references to several historical figures who have become liberal icons, such as César Chávez and Thurgood Marshall."
@elspoko I'm certain he is right about the moral and spiritual civil war. Secondly, I am sure they do want to see them de-emphasized, as I'm sure the other side would want conservative icons de-emphasized or demonized, as has often happened in textbooks in the past.
@scottm124 Firstly, who's morals are we going to abide by? The same religious values that allowed slavery, segragtion, and some of the worse atrocities on this nation, such as 9/11?
Secondly, what de-emphasis has been made? I'm just leaving a couse where we studied Modern American History and ended with Barry Goldwater. Are you saying he was some kind of liberal?
@elspoko What religion do you refer to? I am an Orthodox Christian and see in Christianity nothing that promotes slavery or segregation. Maybe Islam with it's dhimmi system? Goldwater is the perfect guy to leave in! His name invokes some vague idea of racism/conservative (don't those two ideas go together somehow?), he lost an election, and if need be his pro-abortion and gay rights record can be trotted out as redeeming features. Its win-win! Anyway, we shall agree to disagree. I'm done :)
@scottm124 See, that is exacly my point. YOU don't see what slavery has to do with anything, but history doesn't support YOUR view. You can try to disassociate yourself all you want, but history is concrete. Just like Islam can't dissassociare itself from the terrorist attacks done in Allah's name. And Goldwater IS taught about in school, even though this board of suposed educated people says that hsitory classes emphasize liberal ideals.
@elspoko Wow. You read so much into what I said, and totally missed my second point. There's the actual problem. You didn't read what I said, you read what you thought I said and added some internal commentary and preconceived notions. Your answer shows that you actually didn't read it at all. So, again, we will have to agree to disagree.
@scottm124 You're the one saying you don't see anything in Christianity that promotes slavery, when historically, Christianity in America was used to promote and rationalize slavery. You just do not want to hear because it's an ugly truth, and that is at the core of this board. Do away with some facts, emphasize others, and have a slanted view. There should be no religion associated with history books insofar as dictating what goes in.
@elspoko On the contrary I agree with you in part, but your overall argument is fallacious and illogical. People have indeed used Christianity to justify all sorts of things. But I repeat, there is nothing in Christianity that justifies or promotes slavery and segregation.
@scottm124 Of course you don't see anything in Christianity that justifies or promotes slavery and segregation, because you pick and choose what you want. Which is fine, it's how you see it. But can you honestly say you speak for everyone? Also, history doesn't back your claim. But that is a different conversation. My point is that these people, with no background in history, will dictate what goes in not by a factual standpoint, but by a 'moral' and obviously political perspective.
@elspoko OK, I get that logic is not your strong point. I understand. I think we're done here. Whatever you believe, you believe. You can't logically analyze the simplest of statements, so I don't blame you for thinking the way you do. With that level of analysis you really aren't equipped to rationally consider any points made. Reply if you wish, but I will no longer answer.
@scottm124 You've actually tried to misinform people by saying this board is not one of omition. When I pointed to the actual truth from their own mouths, you deflected by decanting your religious views as being different from the ones history has already judged. And now, when your points fail at every turn, you stamp your feet on the ground and say 'I don't want to hear this, I'm going home." Do as you wish. This will fail as have other attempts at censoring education.
@elspoko Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. -George Santayana
My sons history books were missing tons of information about the civil war and why it was fought. According to his books it was about slavery and how the villainous south fought to keep slaves while the North rode in and saved the day. It completely left out the fact that it was originally started not only because of slavery, but also state sovereignty. The past may be ugly but it should be taught.
@ShadeRage2007 How old is your son? Your son would have to take an economics course and a decent sociology course to be fully taught in what the Civil War was. And you know what? I fully agree with you. But this board has not said a word about adding to history courses in schools. It has only talked about omittions and de-emphasis. This board would completely be in power to dictate what is taught, without voters accountability.
@scottm124 And just to be clear, the majority of this nation's history can be considered from a conservative standpoint. How has that been de-emphasized? Now, if you're speaking of the absurd notion that 'conservative' somehow means religious and the like, then our conversation really does have to end, as religion has nothing to do with being conservative.
@scottm124 I can send you articles where the board members are interviewed in specifically stating what they'll omit if you want. Send me a pm if you want them. It won't let me post them
@elspoko What they would like to personally delete and what actually is and is not included are different things. I'll send you a link to the actual standards to read.
@scottm124 Lastly, none of these board members are historians. Not even hobby historians. In other words, they have no real backing in the historical events in which they want to judge. I mean come on, they want to de-emphasize Thomas Jefferson's role in history, when he's the father of the Dec. of Ind. You really trust these people?
How will this affect a student's score on the ACT or the SAT? Will these CHANGED facts affect how they will answer the questions?
The idea of Public Schools is to provide an educations for young people to compete against other students.... with their KNOWLEDGE.... If the facts are not presented...they can't compete.
If the facts are presented, smart young people will be able to figure out the TRUTH. But they have to have all the facts first.
@pasnell The modern school system in its current form has already deemed our children as mediocre until proven otherwise. As such, they treat them as future cogs in the societal machine. Cogs that fight against authority won't do their jobs, so they are intentionally taught a version of world events which is favorable to the machine.
US HIS Story as taught in the Public School system is already stuffed full of propagated myths (Pilgrim, Indian ), half lies (Columbus discovered America) & outright deceptions (freedom- whose?) used to condition the minds of youths & forward a pre determined ideological mindset in relation to HIS Story via the curriculum taught in the classroom.
Why not just recall the African Slave Trade era as the Atlantic Triangle Trade?lol
are these ppl serious why in gods name would they ever change the text books from WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED to some random stupid shit that some guy just made up. are people this ignorant. the fact that so many people agree with this is just crazy
They are taking back America, Standing up for whats RIGHT in America. The children need to know the truth. Just like revising the Bible, adopting a purity test for candidates and embracing Ayn Rand ideology they are doing whats best for America. If you don't like it you hate America and apple pie.
@afromosaic Wow. Just wow. Okay, I'm honestly not trying to pick a fight with you here. I decided to do my best to stop doing that as much as possible on YouTube. It just turns my head into a furnace.
So, I'm going to assume that you are being BRILLIANTLY sarcastic. If so, that is some pretty amazing use of dry wit. I congratulate you at the humor, and hope you'd consider allowing me to quote that as dialogue in one of my upcoming animated short films. I'd appreciate, would credit you.
@afromosaic Cool. Yeah, Rand was a pretty crazy bitch. But who isn't? I read "Fountainhead" and really enjoyed it. As storytelling and writing. She was a good writer.
But I don't agree with some of what I know about her politics, which really isn't that much.
Like all writers, she had some good points, and was just as often full of crap. As a storyteller, she was alright.
As a political philosopher, I'd just as soon stick with Jefferson, Franklin, and Madison.
Upon becoming the secretary of education in Massachusetts in 1837, Horace Mann helped to create a statewide system, based on the Prussian model.
The Prussian schools imposed an official language, to the prejudice of ethnic groups living in Prussia. The purpose of the system was to instill loyalty to the Crown and to train young men for the military and the bureaucracy.
You need to use laptops, a laptop cost $500 and an average book is $125. Get the point, books get tossed yearly. The books i read in school didn't affect me to the see truth about this pityful nation. America is a peice of shit with rich bitches everywhere, no real men... those are in the Middle East. Peace-
@AdamEtheredge So, you know they were liberal for sure? Really? Because I was always taught that those documents were written not with a liberal or conservative point of view. But of an idea tha tthey didn't want the same nonsense that they got from England.
@AdamEtheredge Thats why liberals fathered prohibition and defended segregation tooth and nail? As your liberal "libertarian" god Noam Chomsky said, the common people may be "spectators but not participants" in the democratic process. GO LIBERALISM GO.
@unillenium Chomsky is not my god, he's just a writer and philosopher. But if that's what you think it means to be a liberal, then you misunderstand the word, which is not surprising as the Right has demonized the word so much. I expect soon that it will be illegal to be "Liberal" soon.
And it was the religious who fathered prohibition, and bigoted Regressives who defended segregation. And a Democrat President who sent the National Guard to allow black kids to go to school.
To be honest I just like to by snarky when I talk politics and I really don't mean to troll. Kennedy did the right thing when he was in office and when he helped table the civil rights act. Bigotry is secular, so i like to swing the pendulum back at liberals because as of late there's been a lot of "conservatives are racist" rhetoric flying around. I mean Richard Nixon after Kennedy carried on with the civil rights movement and never gets credit for his contributions (for obvious reasons)
@unillenium One thing is certain, in the United States and in Europe, the various conservative party members are more likely to: Be racist, get caught with male prostitutes and/or on paedophile rings i.e. all the Catholic church cases are enough proof.
Hope you don't mind a little smear, I got the idea from the shit that regurgitates out of Fox news and countless youtube comments.

Idiots. There are no changed facts. A fact is a fact. The difference is in stating the fact, or interpreting the fact through a liberal worldview of moral relativism and American evil. Just state the facts, that's all that's needed. And to the idiot that commented about Columbus, he may not have been the first one here, but damned if he wasn't the one that did something with it.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 No, the difference is that they are omitting some facts, to give a slanted view of history. That is censorship. Plain and simple.
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko Very well, specifically which facts are being omitted out of some type of bias?
scottm124 1 year ago
How many news articles and quotes do you want? Here's one quote from one of the board members, which ironically doesn't have a historian, "We're in an all-out moral and spiritual civil war for the soul of America, and the record of American history is right at the heart of it." In the context of "
Two of them want to remove or de-emphasize references to several historical figures who have become liberal icons, such as César Chávez and Thurgood Marshall."
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko I'm certain he is right about the moral and spiritual civil war. Secondly, I am sure they do want to see them de-emphasized, as I'm sure the other side would want conservative icons de-emphasized or demonized, as has often happened in textbooks in the past.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 Firstly, who's morals are we going to abide by? The same religious values that allowed slavery, segragtion, and some of the worse atrocities on this nation, such as 9/11?
Secondly, what de-emphasis has been made? I'm just leaving a couse where we studied Modern American History and ended with Barry Goldwater. Are you saying he was some kind of liberal?
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko What religion do you refer to? I am an Orthodox Christian and see in Christianity nothing that promotes slavery or segregation. Maybe Islam with it's dhimmi system? Goldwater is the perfect guy to leave in! His name invokes some vague idea of racism/conservative (don't those two ideas go together somehow?), he lost an election, and if need be his pro-abortion and gay rights record can be trotted out as redeeming features. Its win-win! Anyway, we shall agree to disagree. I'm done :)
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 See, that is exacly my point. YOU don't see what slavery has to do with anything, but history doesn't support YOUR view. You can try to disassociate yourself all you want, but history is concrete. Just like Islam can't dissassociare itself from the terrorist attacks done in Allah's name. And Goldwater IS taught about in school, even though this board of suposed educated people says that hsitory classes emphasize liberal ideals.
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko Wow. You read so much into what I said, and totally missed my second point. There's the actual problem. You didn't read what I said, you read what you thought I said and added some internal commentary and preconceived notions. Your answer shows that you actually didn't read it at all. So, again, we will have to agree to disagree.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 You're the one saying you don't see anything in Christianity that promotes slavery, when historically, Christianity in America was used to promote and rationalize slavery. You just do not want to hear because it's an ugly truth, and that is at the core of this board. Do away with some facts, emphasize others, and have a slanted view. There should be no religion associated with history books insofar as dictating what goes in.
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko On the contrary I agree with you in part, but your overall argument is fallacious and illogical. People have indeed used Christianity to justify all sorts of things. But I repeat, there is nothing in Christianity that justifies or promotes slavery and segregation.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 Of course you don't see anything in Christianity that justifies or promotes slavery and segregation, because you pick and choose what you want. Which is fine, it's how you see it. But can you honestly say you speak for everyone? Also, history doesn't back your claim. But that is a different conversation. My point is that these people, with no background in history, will dictate what goes in not by a factual standpoint, but by a 'moral' and obviously political perspective.
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko OK, I get that logic is not your strong point. I understand. I think we're done here. Whatever you believe, you believe. You can't logically analyze the simplest of statements, so I don't blame you for thinking the way you do. With that level of analysis you really aren't equipped to rationally consider any points made. Reply if you wish, but I will no longer answer.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 You've actually tried to misinform people by saying this board is not one of omition. When I pointed to the actual truth from their own mouths, you deflected by decanting your religious views as being different from the ones history has already judged. And now, when your points fail at every turn, you stamp your feet on the ground and say 'I don't want to hear this, I'm going home." Do as you wish. This will fail as have other attempts at censoring education.
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. -George Santayana
My sons history books were missing tons of information about the civil war and why it was fought. According to his books it was about slavery and how the villainous south fought to keep slaves while the North rode in and saved the day. It completely left out the fact that it was originally started not only because of slavery, but also state sovereignty. The past may be ugly but it should be taught.
ShadeRage2007 1 year ago
@ShadeRage2007 How old is your son? Your son would have to take an economics course and a decent sociology course to be fully taught in what the Civil War was. And you know what? I fully agree with you. But this board has not said a word about adding to history courses in schools. It has only talked about omittions and de-emphasis. This board would completely be in power to dictate what is taught, without voters accountability.
elspoko 1 year ago
@scottm124 And just to be clear, the majority of this nation's history can be considered from a conservative standpoint. How has that been de-emphasized? Now, if you're speaking of the absurd notion that 'conservative' somehow means religious and the like, then our conversation really does have to end, as religion has nothing to do with being conservative.
elspoko 1 year ago
@scottm124 I can send you articles where the board members are interviewed in specifically stating what they'll omit if you want. Send me a pm if you want them. It won't let me post them
elspoko 1 year ago
@elspoko What they would like to personally delete and what actually is and is not included are different things. I'll send you a link to the actual standards to read.
scottm124 1 year ago
@scottm124 Lastly, none of these board members are historians. Not even hobby historians. In other words, they have no real backing in the historical events in which they want to judge. I mean come on, they want to de-emphasize Thomas Jefferson's role in history, when he's the father of the Dec. of Ind. You really trust these people?

TO ALL TEXAN STUDENTS
As soon as you start the new year this fall... THROW AWAY YOUR TEXT BOOKS!
Get a laptop, even an old used one, you can get one on ebay for less the price of a text book.
... and RESEARCH every topic taught in class on your own.
It's YOUR FUTURE at stake... please TAKE CONTROL OF IT.

history is already taught wrong since I was a kid. in the 70s they teach nothing of what actually happened and teach watered down crap
Docthewrench 1 year ago
they need to change the text books so there are no big words for the stupid a holes.
kargenlewis 1 year ago
How will this affect a student's score on the ACT or the SAT? Will these CHANGED facts affect how they will answer the questions?
The idea of Public Schools is to provide an educations for young people to compete against other students.... with their KNOWLEDGE.... If the facts are not presented...they can't compete.
If the facts are presented, smart young people will be able to figure out the TRUTH. But they have to have all the facts first.
pasnell 1 year ago
@pasnell The modern school system in its current form has already deemed our children as mediocre until proven otherwise. As such, they treat them as future cogs in the societal machine. Cogs that fight against authority won't do their jobs, so they are intentionally taught a version of world events which is favorable to the machine.
doozer667 1 year ago

If you don't like it you hate America and apple pie.
afromosaic 1 year ago
@afromosaic Wow. Just wow. Okay, I'm honestly not trying to pick a fight with you here. I decided to do my best to stop doing that as much as possible on YouTube. It just turns my head into a furnace.
So, I'm going to assume that you are being BRILLIANTLY sarcastic. If so, that is some pretty amazing use of dry wit. I congratulate you at the humor, and hope you'd consider allowing me to quote that as dialogue in one of my upcoming animated short films. I'd appreciate, would credit you.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
@AdamEtheredge of course I was being sarcastic. Ayn Rand was a evil bitch. Don't google it goto a libarary and read about her ideology.
afromosaic 1 year ago
@afromosaic Cool. Yeah, Rand was a pretty crazy bitch. But who isn't? I read "Fountainhead" and really enjoyed it. As storytelling and writing. She was a good writer.
But I don't agree with some of what I know about her politics, which really isn't that much.
Like all writers, she had some good points, and was just as often full of crap. As a storyteller, she was alright.
As a political philosopher, I'd just as soon stick with Jefferson, Franklin, and Madison.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
Upon becoming the secretary of education in Massachusetts in 1837, Horace Mann helped to create a statewide system, based on the Prussian model.
The Prussian schools imposed an official language, to the prejudice of ethnic groups living in Prussia. The purpose of the system was to instill loyalty to the Crown and to train young men for the military and the bureaucracy.
I bet they don't teach that in history
doozer667 1 year ago
You need to use laptops, a laptop cost $500 and an average book is $125. Get the point, books get tossed yearly. The books i read in school didn't affect me to the see truth about this pityful nation. America is a peice of shit with rich bitches everywhere, no real men... those are in the Middle East. Peace-

Freedom is a LIBERAL concept.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
@AdamEtheredge Erm...Where did you get that from? Because it is rare to find a liberal who let's your be free.
Jules242 1 year ago
@Jules242 Every read the Bill of Rights? The Declaration of Independence? Know who wrote them?
A couple of VERY LIBERAL guys.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
@AdamEtheredge So, you know they were liberal for sure? Really? Because I was always taught that those documents were written not with a liberal or conservative point of view. But of an idea tha tthey didn't want the same nonsense that they got from England.

@Jules242 It's a quote I saw on someone else's wall. Peace. I REALLY need to get some sleep.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
@AdamEtheredge Thats why liberals fathered prohibition and defended segregation tooth and nail? As your liberal "libertarian" god Noam Chomsky said, the common people may be "spectators but not participants" in the democratic process. GO LIBERALISM GO.
unillenium 1 year ago
@unillenium Chomsky is not my god, he's just a writer and philosopher. But if that's what you think it means to be a liberal, then you misunderstand the word, which is not surprising as the Right has demonized the word so much. I expect soon that it will be illegal to be "Liberal" soon.
And it was the religious who fathered prohibition, and bigoted Regressives who defended segregation. And a Democrat President who sent the National Guard to allow black kids to go to school.
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
Look, I'm not trying to fight with you. I tire of heated debates on YouTube.
I felt I might have cocked up that last reply comment (about a president sending troops during desegregation...) so I watched history vids.
I don't know if Kennedy ordered the Guard in, or if the Ala courts did at his request. But here's what Wallace said when they showed up:
"The President wants us to surrender this state to Martin Luther King and his group of pro-Communists who have instituted these demonstrations."
AdamEtheredge 1 year ago
To be honest I just like to by snarky when I talk politics and I really don't mean to troll. Kennedy did the right thing when he was in office and when he helped table the civil rights act. Bigotry is secular, so i like to swing the pendulum back at liberals because as of late there's been a lot of "conservatives are racist" rhetoric flying around. I mean Richard Nixon after Kennedy carried on with the civil rights movement and never gets credit for his contributions (for obvious reasons)
unillenium 1 year ago
@unillenium One thing is certain, in the United States and in Europe, the various conservative party members are more likely to: Be racist, get caught with male prostitutes and/or on paedophile rings i.e. all the Catholic church cases are enough proof.
Hope you don't mind a little smear, I got the idea from the shit that regurgitates out of Fox news and countless youtube comments.
