There is big business in real estate, and even though these young yuppies and hipsters move in and are no harm, some even are activists themselves in issues like these they are unintentionally the problem to gentrification even though they might not know it. There is a price tag on White people and Asians that's more beneficial to real estate than Blacks or Latinos. The real estate market is a undeniably racist system.
If you see Whites moving in or Asians just fuck up their cars or steal their stupid bikes, don't hurt them tho. Intimidation is the key to eliminate gentrification in retaliation, the city or mayors across major cities create what's called "gang injunction" where it prevents young minority males from just simply hanging out together in groups of 3 or more, and any minority male cannot go out after a certain time. This is unconstitutional but they are getting away with it.
Moderadonna, it's not so much that our generation X is not showing interest, no one is educating them about knowledge of self in America. They don't understand that there are institiutions that are set up for us to fail. To see what I am talking about, please view "Race, Class, and Opportunity" with John A Powell. Also view " Race and who started it" and if you can, please by the documentary "Banished" by Marco Williams. I purchased it on Amazon and it will blow your mind.
Non-contribution? I guess you never heard of Crispus Attucks, Benjamin Banneker, Paul Robeson, Harriet Tubman, Daniel Hale Williams, Robert Smalls, Shirley Chisholm, Charles Drew, Thurgood Marshall, Barack Obama, The Black Seminoles of Florida, Rosewood, Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Eli Whitney, Eli McCoy, Jan Matzeliger, Fannie Lou Hamer, Marcus Garvey, Booker T. Washington, Richard S. Abbott, Matt Henson, I advise you read "Eyewitness" by Willaim Loren Katz. and cut the T.V. off!!
@hustlaus {justify our own failures and (history of non-contribution)} this comment tells you everything about john. Hustlaus dont respond to idiots! john came and presented a talking point, and when you came back with substance john went i don't come here to read meaningless lists. LMAO he comment was pointless, vague and prejudice. At what point in this video was someone talking about excuses?
@hustlaus Ok, This is my opinion of gentrification. Now, yes your list is complete with wonderful minds, thinkers and doers from previous generations. Unfortunately, between my generation(X) and the ones following, as a whole, our generations are reversing all of this achievement. When one shows no interest in his or her community, it is that much easier for others to come in and take advantage.
This is exactly what I personally saw happen in downtown Atlanta where I lived for 20 years. I think it can be kind of a good thing to break up the concentrated ghettos that used to exist here, but you have to give them somewhere to go. Not just bulldoze their homes and throw up half a million dollar condos. Something's just not right about that!
