Thanks for your reply walkerjay57! Have you figured out the other Jaco Pastorius ending for that song? After he does those series of double stops before that massively quick Amaj finish?It's a harmonic chord finish but sounds JACO and is simple and historical!!
@Chomp0nThis Thank you! Too bad I sold it!!!! Actually passed it along to a good friend. I never played it and needed the dough at the time. I rarely leave the house without my trusty 74 jazz.
Some told me that this 50's MIM precision is a really good base, since you have this one for a long time now. Can't you say that, it's really good?? Its better that the normal mim basses right?
(a do have a American Jazz fender, so it should be me 2° bass)
@mdc11 The 50's Classic is an absolutely great bass. The price definitely helps. I had some good times with that bass, played around with flats on it for a while, then the pickups died. Haven't heard this happening to a lot of people. Replaced them with some EMG's I had around and didn't like the tone. Was gonna grab some new 62 style pickups but decided to sell the bass to a friend. Only reason is that I kept going for my 74 jazz and needed the money at the time.
PART 5 Then get the notes and harmonics right and play it with feeling then you will graduate first grade bass class. Jaco also used a DOD super stereo chorus FX 68 which I am looking at right now. Which I think I will play right now. Jaco looks really bad on these videos, he didn't look bad the last 6 months of his life before he was murdered , beat into a coma, Jaco wouldn't hurt a fly, it makes me so sad. Walkerjay then shoot another video and let me know.
@VictorAWineGuy Oh yes you can bend notes on a fretted bass. It is just harder to do vibratos. You do have to be on on a fretted bass because if u get off a little you get fret buzz and the notes don't ring true.
He loved the way I customized my new Fender Power Jazz Bass Special, and he wanted to buy it. But I just got it as a birthday gift in March (I was three months younger than Jaco) and didn't want to sell. Jaco said, "Victor you are a genius", (because of the way I customized the bass). When he would see me, Jaco would bow; kiss my hand, and say, "Victor you are the greatest bass player ever." It would always make me laugh, the Great Jaco Pastorius, telling me, that Im the greatest.
PART 1 In the summer/fall of 1987, I met Jaco many times at the bars in Ft. Lauderdale. We spent hours, talking bass, styles, techniques, finger positions, etc... He could not believe that I knew the bass line, of every song, done by all of the famous bass players, note-for-note. I especially liked the bass players who could play notes very fast (the faster, the harder) like: John Paul Jones (Yes), and Lee Dorman (Iron Butterfly).
Unless you can actually play an 11-string bass, don't buy it just to be cool because it'll make you look incredibly foolish if you can't play it or just plays 6 of the strings, lol!
cfalberg come on man, to say what you said is is very unmannerly and kind of childishly snotty. You as a musician should be able to pick up anything and play it and not make a snobby face. I have 2 basses, one I made myself, and a Jazz bass. I love them both and they are so different from each other. The comment you made, made you sound like you are some snotty millionaire. That aint cool
Don't have tab, just watched his videos very closely. I actually play it my own way with a subtle Jaco vibe. He did a lot more stuff than I am attempting here...

the first harmonic chord is 5G and 7D

What is the first harmonic chord? I can't figure that one out.

@SalvationHasCome
you're asking the wrong person lol. I just look and see where Jaco puts his fingers. That's the extent of my music theory.

Nice Playing, regardless of whether it was a p bass or jazz, some people get bogged down by to many details.

you didn't play the harmonics right and the end with a mesh of notes was way way to slow. It was alright.

Did you have a correct tab for it? Cause im a bassist too, and a fan of Jaco.
