  • Beast mode engage!!

  • what position does he play? Ever watch the agility drills that werner gunthor did -on youtube famous sweedish shot putter- he was 280ish 6'7 and moved like a cat also. He had some ridiculous jumping ability also. At his height I think he could drop little more fat and get quicker he is strong but needs little more quickness at his height.

  • BEAST!

  • He makes Chris Hemsworth look like a bitch

  • Viking

  • Beast.

  • haha the block is hot with youtube form police, why is it so hard to understand he is not a powerlifter. you guys keep hating, hell be getting stronger and getting drafted. good work as always joe!

  • serious question, is it allowed that your athletes bench the last reps with their butt of the bench? doesnt it strain their lower pack too much over the course of months?

  • Now im not hating here at all.. 345 bench for 9 is good.. but concidering his body weight not anything to write home to mom about. Of course you do need to give him some slack as he does have long arms and he is what 6 3? So considering thou's facts. he makes a pretty good football player. We on our channel are powerlifters and train a lot different so strength is most important. As shawn warms up with weights much higher than this. Keep up the good work training great athletes

  • @foodcartpeople This athlete is stronger than the guys on your channel, comparing the two is insulting to someone who has actually worked hard on his physical preparation. Getting really fat then putting gear on and doing a vague impression of a squat and bench does not make you a powerlifter.

  • @foodcartpeople considering he is a football player, why are you even comparing his bench to the powerlifter? strength is important but not the only goal. joe trains ATHLETES which I'm sure you realise, so why make such an unnecessary comparison. I doubt many, if any of your pure powerlifters could run as fast or jump as high as this guy, let alone play football as well.

  • Is it considered a lift? I mean the bench. It's very much I'll give him that, but using his chest as a trampoline and lifting his ass up like that: not accepted by general power lifting federations. Although it's all right if the "opposition" does the same, then it's equal grounds and I'm okay with it.

  • @ZZaarraakkii Dude hes not a fucking powerlifter, but as long as YOUR ok with it its all good, idiot

  • @hempfield21 Allright, thanks. Cheer up :D

  • I don't think Thor would need to wear gloves to bench :P

  • pretty cool, but not that impressive. srsly, joe, you had much better athletes, ´just mentioning Brian Cushing as one example....

  • How 'bout this for relative Thinkweb2......I weigh 216 lbs. This athlete pushes around 345 lbs. like paper, and jumps pretty damn high. That means there's a good chance he'll toss me an exceptionally far distance if I try to stop him, and he can kick me in the head while finishing a cheeseburger before his feet hit the ground again. I can definitely relate to that. Nice job Thor!

  • THINKWEB2 STOP HATIN YO.

  • real athletics here man...

  • Anyone with a prob with this vid is prob a member at Planet Weakness.

  • Nice work!

  • is there any reason why he is doing a more body building styled bench with his elbows out?

  • wait 272lbs? so you're saying he's bigger than Brock Lesnar

  • Post footage of Thor doing sledgehammer/Mjolnir swings.

  • @thinkweb2 Were you also a 1st Team All-American football player? And since you weigh 102 pounds LESS than Brett, I'm assuming you can box jump at LEAST 20 inches higher than him??

  • @joedefranco No, I'm actually a programmer who sits in front of computer most of the day. Not sure about max jump height. I've done 10 jumps @ 34" recently. Looks like I've got a long way to go, if you say it could be 70".

  • @thinkweb2 i think he might be joking...

  • @AdangerousRETARD Ah... and there I was, getting ready to run to the gym, practice that 70" box jump :)

  • @thinkweb2 haha well go for it anyways

  • @joedefranco nice lol. Love when people wanna test their manhood against football players or any other athlete. We should tell this dude about dexter mccluster's 225 rep test at the combine. You guys do a great job at that gym, keep up the good work.

  • @joedefranco why u gettin all defensive joe??? lol

  • Comment removed

  • @joedefranco joes mad

  • @joedefranco bla bla bla

  • @thinkweb2 dexter mccluster 172 lbs, 225lbs for 20 reps. Take your 215 for 7 somewhere else.

  • @tankthecane82 lol, well excuse me for being 15 reps away from one of the top NFL athletes :P

  • @tankthecane82 Cool.

  • @tankthecane82 145, 215 for 13

  • @MrWendellsowersiii don't care. For all i know you can be on roids and it's bench press, not much of a functional lift when it comes to football. A lot of guys are weight room freaks and suck at football. I merely said that bc that dude was basically bragging.

  • @MrWendellsowersiii also, you could be 5'6 and upper body focused only when it comes to your lifting, you know, the typical LA fitness guy that didn't quite make it in sports. 2 thumbs up for you.

  • @thinkweb2 thats a shitty comparison

  • @thinkweb2 i bet you're just posting this to get attention.

  • @thinkweb2 The bodyweight to weight lifted ratio is not an accurate measure of relative strength.

  • @thinkweb2 So would you also say that someone who weighs 50 kg and benches 100 kg is more impressive than someone who weighs 100 kg and benches 200 kg? Determining relative strength is not as simple as directly comparing lifts with body weight (as in a "double body weight bench press"). Relative strength is not linear with body weight.

  • @essjayyell What's the progression for "relative strength" then, if not linear? Bodyweight is important, which is why we have weight classes in powerlifting (olympic lifting, etc.). If you bench 300lbs at 150lb bodyweight, that's certainly more impressive than benching 300 at 200 bodyweight. There's a 2x vs 1.5x coefficient for you. Take a look at powerlifting world records and corresponding ratios.

  • @thinkweb2 lolol

the fact that you only looked at his bench, and not his other athletic obvious athletic feats means you have a long way to go with everything. Not just how much you bench.

  • @thinkweb2 a man under 200lbs is a woman. You're more than two plates lighter than him. No one cares about your shitty bench.

  • @guadango alot of women in the nfl ain't there

  • @thinkweb2 dont worry 345 is light weight anyways...

  • @thinkweb2 Thats not how it works at all. You cant look at your lifts proportionally with his because it doesn't matter how much you weigh. After a certain point your body simply cannot push a weight. With your "proportional" method of thinking in order for the worlda heaviest man to be considered a beast at lifting he'd have to bench about 1,200lbs RAW (give or take). Additionally benching ability isnt the only reason why this man is a beast and youre not.

  • @thinkweb2

Some bench press world records and ratios (because I have this kinda time):

    123lb class, 392lbs, 3,19 ratio

    181lb class, 556lbs, 3,07 ratio

    275lb class, 666lbs, 2,42 ratio

    308lb class, 701lbs, 2,27 ratio

Conclusion: strength to bodyweight ratios are not linear.

  • @thinkweb2 this is very false. you're probably one of those kids who isn't too gifted so you use your lack of size as an excuse. it's not about body weight, you also have to factor in height, proportions, fast-twitch muscle, and body fat. if you take 2 dudes who are both 6'4, but one is 250 with 6% body fat and one is 280 with the same amount of muscle, but over 12% body fat, then you can't talk about pound for pound strength because they have the same muscle mass, one's just bigger.

  • @thinkweb2

Actually strength is not comparable in that way. That's why certain powerlifting federations use something called a wilks formula. Which compares the strength of lifters in different weight classes using a specific mathematical formula. The very lightest weight classes always lift the most compared to their own bodyweight, this ratio decreases as weight classes increase. You cannot directly compare your strength per pound of bodyweight to a man 272lbs.

  • @jediknight69

For example, The greatest deadlift ever compared to bodyweight was done by Lamar Gant. A 639 pound deadlift at 123, which is 5.18 times his bodyweight. The heaviest dead lift ever is 1015 Pounds at 381 pounds by Benedikt Magnusson which is only 2.66 times his bodyweight. Lamar Gant lifted nearly twice as much compared to his own bodyweight, however using other forumals, such as wilks, both of these lifts are nearly equal accomplishments.

  • @jediknight69 Thanks for informative response. I already lost hope for arguments from youtube crowd other than "ur just jealous", "ur just hating", "ur weak fatass". So I was wrong assuming 215x9 @170 is identical. According to wilks, it's ~280lbs for 9; certainly more challenging (my 1RM=255).

Btw from wiki: "occurs for a number of reasons relating to simple physics, the nature of the makeup and limitations of the human skeletal and muscular system and, the shorter leverages of smaller people"

  • @thinkweb2 Yes you are far from him because you are doing 215 for 7 reps(if its true) and not 345x9. Body weight is only a factor up to a certain point considering youd hope a 130lber after a little while can bench his own body weight, but you dont expect a 300lber noob to bench his bw after a little while. Regardless of bw this is a strong as hell lift and when you stop lifting girl weights you'll realize that

  • Think he's unathletic? I think he's a monster.

  • FUCKING MONSTER

  • Hell yeah! This guy is a beast!

  • Box jump was really impressive.

  • looks freakishly like thor

  • Strong bench form.

  • Wow he really does look like THOR. Does he come to training in a red cape? Hahaha nice work.
