  • Dex is my favorite sax player.

  • Top Line..

  • OMG! Somebody's gonna tell me Eddie Gladden is playing bad??? Go Away!

  • That's John Heard on bass, right? When he (we) had more hair!

  • i dont think i have seen a great jazz video on youtube yet that doesnt have comments of other people bashing each other and trying to show how much more they know... seriously, just enjoy this awesome music and keep your egos to yourselves.

  • I thought that was Lightsey on piano. Great group of improvisors - "three blid mice", "popeye the sailor man" - Dexter love quotes

  • Ronnie Mathews is the pianist! Great Jazz Piano player. Listen for example Freddie Hubbard Breaking Point....

  • @74crist As others confirmed it's Kirk LIghtsey on piano who worked with dexter between 1979 and 1983!

  • you're right! Kirk Lightsey Yeah. I remeber some great recordings of Chet Baker with Lightsey, another giant underrated jazz pianist...

  • A true genius with a great tone.

  • Well Eddie's punching the cymbals too much. You're not a great drummer if you can't shut up and just hold the beat softly!

  • @helluvagun think it's the record technician that's to blame

  • @helluvagun you are not a great drummer if you do not understand why he plays this way

  • @helluvagun you should have been physically in the audience to judge the drummer's actual dynamic of his drumming, what you hear in a video posted on youtube (compressed more than once) taken from an old vhs tape of a concert recorded over 30 years ago is absolutely different from what you could have heard if you were in that club the day of this performance!

  • @helluvagun Dexter used to introduce the band and say "On drums we have a man whose mission in life is to bring joy to the world, Eddie Gladden!" Dexter's groups in Europe and the States were both powerhouse (loud) outfits in the '70's and 80's. Did it ever occur to you that Dexter employed Eddie in the States for years because his sound was exactly what Dexter needed to feel to be free to improvise?

  • Swingsville!!! Heard Gladden and Lightsey..Whew!!! Err And LTD....

  • John Heard and Eddie Gladden ! Yeah!!!!

  • Yeah man!
