Don't listen to the people saying you can do it with a few clicks by using mpeg 4 right off the bat, you loose a lot of video quality doing that, yet you do with this too. YOUTUBE ALLOW .MOV FORMAT please its pathetic
This method of exporting works for me, I have found that when this process is completed the format for youtube's HQ player works almost perfect. You may have other methods but this is how I export :)
Hey dude, you don't need that application. You can just go Export>Quicktime Conversion>Options>Video_Settings>Then just select what format you want (such as MPEG-4)!
Do you have to buy that ffmpeg thing? Cuz I used it and followed your instructions but it has some huge stamp on the compressed file that says "3ivx TRIAL"
Your video is 6 minutes long because you probably have a little sound or video clip that is hidden in the end of your movie. When editing, your movie ends at the last clip of your timeline, so there must be a hidden little clip somewhere.
Im not sure why its stretched out. But try exporting it to 4:3, see if that makes a difference
Great video. My problem is that after using FCP in 4:3 ratio for years, I just tried putting the camera into 16x9... capturing the footage into FCP... but the Canvas looks like 4:3, and so the 16x9 footage has the black bands at the top and bottom. How do I get the Canvas to become 16x9 so that when I export, I end up with widescreen without the black bands. Thanks so much!
Im not 100% totally positive how to solve that problem, If your capturing your footage in 16:9 it should show up in FCP as 16:9. I would put your camera back to 4:3, and then export it into 16:9 either with ffmpeg or just straight from FCP. Not sure if that answers the question, im sorry, but that problem has never come up for me before. I hope that helps :)
Thanks for the thoughts. At this point, I'm wondering if my cam-damera is shooting in some sort of simulated 16x9. Maybe I'll hook it up to an external monitor to see.
Oh, wow! No, I didn't see it. When you had the titles going, I was just listening to the music and positioning the screen, so I totally missed it. lol.
Hey thanks a lot.. this really helped me a lot

Haha this is so overly complicated it's unbelievable. You can just export to MP4 now and YouTube will put it to HQ.

Thanks for responding.
No sound clip or video at then end. The video is exactly 1 min 16 seconds. in and out markers and all. I can't figure it out... oh well.
I'll try 4:3. Thanks.
Right now I'm trying to upload a version i exported using Apple res HQ codec. The file was 800 mb so have to wait til morning to see if it works.
Thanks for the very helpful videos.

Great video. Thanks! I got the encoder working.
Couple questions. When I export my 1:15min video to DV Stream the exported video is 6 minutes long (over four minutes of black at the end).
Also, I shot SD wide screen. I've tried cropping it, tried encoding 640x480 but the image on youtube is stretched out.
Any suggestions?
