Well Trent really let the staff know by smashing a few windows on the backstage. Btw the guy who supposed to start the fireworks was behind the other stage distance about a kilometer and NIN was running about ten minutes late that last song..
yeah but i suppose finland is the unofficial home of mobile phones so even if the guy was not close enough to see or hear, someone could have informed him.
but funny to hear that trent smashed some windows there - i don't doubt he did, but because when i emailed about this to the festival's official feedback address, they said "trent left the backstage in good spirits." haha
the bad thing in this: i hope it doesn't affect the possibility of getting NIN to play here again...
Well whoever it was that did the lights did something wrong and Trent got mad. I mean he did comment on the lights during 'Only'. My first thought was that he was mad about the fireworks, too, but someone who was backstage after the gig said that it was the lighting that made him angry.
maybe the fireworks guy was thinking - oh, it's an encore! it should be a happy song! why not to color it with fireworks? :)
and is it true what ninwiki says
"This confused and obviously amused Reznor, who paused the song and remarked: "Well, this is a first!" and watched the fireworks with the rest of the crowd before finishing the song"? I don't see it in the video!
yes, he did say that. i actually do have another clip where you can hear him saying that, i'll see if i can upload that one too. for a while we thought he's goning to say "f*** this" and walk of the stage but thankfully no. but he waited for awhile as if to see if the fireworks were going to stop or not and but then he continued the song and eventually the band joined him on stage and they played it all.
Wow, if the guy doesnt get fired you know trent will kill him.
What probably happened was since it was an encore, the dude looked at the schedule and realized "Oh, the show should be over now" and just set off the fireworks without checking
yes i think what happened was that the simultaneous shows on the other festivals stages were already over by that time + even though NIN was supposed to play 15 longer later than those others i suppose they also went a bit overtime there anyway. and so that somebody who hit the "GO!" button for the fireworks was probably just doing his job... without realizing what a mighty true fuck-up he just pulled there. poor guy. :/ ;P

They left pretty quickly after the gig, but don`t know if they worked it out later.. and yes you`re right the festival workers really fucked up..
googoth111 4 years ago
I heard that he did that because of the lights on stage being fucked up, not because of the fireworks.

That sounds a bit strange `cause NIN brang their on crew to set up lights. Though I don`t know who managed the light when they were on stage.
